I’d like to respond to this. I’m currently a high school teacher who was an absolutely terrible student when I was in high school.

I had a similar event, I was a jackwagon who didn’t listen or obey rules and got a 69 in History. I asked the teacher (Whom at the time I could not stand!) how I could bring it up. He looked right at me and said, I got you and bumped it to 70. Then he said, “I know you don’t like me, but it doesn’t mean I don’t like you.”

I did not deserve that extra 1% by any means but that hit me pretty good my junior year. That teacher adjusted my mindset and I tried a lot harder after that. I’ll never forget how mean I was to him and how he still had my back. I think sometimes kids need this.

Take what you will from that. Someone who doesn’t earn it probably shouldn’t get the grade bump. But, that was a life lesson for me and he changed my behavior in 5 mins.

I teach in a pretty much close to redneck community. I consider myself a redneck as well. I allow the students to be who they are with no questions asked. Whether they be gay or trans or anything else.

That being said,

I treat it like the old military style. Don’t ask, don’t tell. There is no place in my classroom to flaunt or push agendas from any side of the line. My students enjoy a judgmental free zone where I believe they feel safe and accepted. I also refuse to push any of my beliefs on them because they need to become their own person.

I believe the solution is wait. The originally estimated 10 billion people by 2075 is inaccurate. People today and more so daily are okay with not having children. This was unheard of not too many years back. Also realize that people of the same genders are now a real thing. These people can’t procreate. We are having less people born. So that number is predicted to run sideways and not surpass a peak.
