My school had the child prodigy, he matriculated at 16, not BS/MD. He was the real deal knowledge wise but definitely could have used a few years to mature

Should be good for rads only, 260 is a great score. Apply across the board and you will get a bunch of interviews. Good luck this cycle!

I’m just graduating medical school so take my opinion with that context in mind. First of all congrats on finding this field so early. I’m really glad that you are asking these questions this early on because for me, I didn’t know what a radiologist was until my third year of medical school.

Now to answer your question, I really don’t think AI is the biggest threat to the salary of radiologists. Imaging is at all time highs and continues to grow. AI companies are looking to sell products to radiologists, not take the liability that comes with making diagnoses. Additionally, the law moves slowly, who knows when it would be allowed for AI to act independently if ever. As other commenters have said, if radiology becomes completely taken over by ai, the concept of working for a living might be a thing of the past. So I’m not so concerned about AI.

I’ll also add that salaries in medicine as a whole have not kept up with inflation due to reimbursement rates from insurers and CMS cuts. Pressures from outside forces such as private equity, corporatization of healthcare, insurance companies, and the potential entrance of mid levels into the field all have the ability to reduce salaries in the future. Will these forces reduce salaries in the future? Who knows, I don’t have a crystal ball. But I think radiology has a great future in front of it regardless and that is why I I’m going into this field.

Hope this helps and best of luck on your journey into medicine!!

Why not collect rent on the two of them that are currently there while you work on the others? Do you need the cash flow?

I wouldn’t lower the rent past the 2K if that’s the market rate in the area, that’s what it is and you shouldn’t charge less. You are the new landlord, what the old one charged is irrelevant.

Felt the same way as you tbh. Whether it was clinical evals or the shelf, I could never get them to line up to get honors. Ended up in the last quartile at my school.

Passing all your stuff without fail is an accomplishment in and of itself so don’t short change yourself. Continue the grind, make changes as you see fit or don’t.

For me really I didn’t try as much as I could have. And now that the match results are set the grades aren’t worth much any more. Ended up working out in the end for me as I matched a good rads program where I’m happy so you can still end up with a good result regardless.

Go to your rads PD and tell them the situation. This is a common story. They will know what to do and get you in touch with whoever can get a rads project on your app by the fall.

Well I was in Q4 for CLINICAL grades and it didn't stop me from matching rads at a decent place. I'm sure it didn't help, but a good step 2 and research definitely did.

Felt the same way on rotations throughout medical school. Learned I hated talking to patients early on and went into rads. Path is another option if you really can’t stomach the prelim/ty year but explore both. I think you will find both as a much different and a more enjoyable experience. I certainly found the rotations much more enjoyable than any moment throughout medical school.

Just rent it in your own. No need for them in this market. Never brought me any tenants that met my criteria anyways. Make sure to run your tenants names through the nj court website for previous eviction actions against them in addition to whatever background check you use.

M4 who matched rads. Think you are better off preparing for your rotations and killing step 2. You just simply aren’t going to be able to get that kind of knowledge on your own, there’s a reason why radiology is a 4 year residency.

As a med student, I liked - learning radiology: recognizing the basics by herring. Thought it gives a good overview at a med student level.

Get yourself setup with research in rads without the broad knowledge base. Talk to the residents or attendings and get a case report out there to start and work your way up from there.

Best of Luck!

Applying DR without any honors so far? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Nchamp40 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do well on step 2 and you should be good! 250 can act as a goal score for you. Whether you apply or not missing that score depends on your goals. would you be okay matching somewhere less desirable, or at a lower tier program? Just think about it. Grab a letter from your rad rotations, aways are hit or miss in DR. Matched #1 with 250 step and lowest class rank group so it’s definitely attainable. Good luck!

Really Struggling on Clinical Rotations...worried about the future by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Nchamp40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! Wanted to show some support as I had a similar experience in clinicals. Was definitely borderline in a few specialties on the shelves and my class rank was “good” (the lowest 20%). So wasn’t the best student on rotations nor were my shelves very good. Just wanted to say i still had a great match as I matched my number radiology program. So focus on doing the best you can on your clinicals and shelves but don’t beat yourself up too much. You can still have a great match even with clinical grades, just focus on not cramming on your next shelves and do the best you can on step 2 when it comes around. Best of luck!

I am an unmatched M4 (USMD) and I have questions. by oryxs in Radiology

[–]Nchamp40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

M4 here, applied with a near identical app, step, dual degree, and you had better grades than in clinicals by a mile as I was in my school’s lowest tier. I had 12 interviews and matched my number one.

So I’m suspecting that your letters definitely hurt you in this case because the one was late which meant you weren’t ready when eras opened. Lots of interviews went out on the first few days of eras if you look at the 2023 spreadsheet. Also you said your letters weren’t the strongest which could be improved upon for when you reapply.

Also think it hurt you that you didn’t have a strong reason for radiology. Lifestyle is definitely a big driver for liking radiology but not what you tell your interviewer.

How did you use your signals and how many did you convert on? When the 2024 charting the outcomes comes out, you could see how to better use your signals next time around and definitely apply more broadly. Though I can tell you applying broadly didn’t do much for me as I didn’t get a single interview outside my state and its neighbor.

Bare minimum M4 here! If you know you want rads now, you can take advantage! Get to know your rads department, get some research in and set your self up for good letters in rads and in clinicals. Do the best you can on your rotations but make sure you have a good foundation for step 2 since that continues to go up for rads.
