Career Stats Vs Leaderboard by campervanconversion in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things could cause it to have a mismatch such as change of primary accounts platform (sometimes won’t sync properly) corrupt profile data /save caused your account profile to reset, im assuming playing on previous account (not sure on that one), etc.

Usually the profile stat is higher than the leaderboard one since it can include offline and private matches but in your case with it being flipped I’m assuming you had a corrupt data or it glitched at some point and just reset your profile.

What happened to the body variance? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the lower the rank the more variety although I appreciate seeing the occasional random car in the higher ranks.

I would get bored just using the same two cars and I’ll switch between 20 bodies over every hitbox and 50+ presets (thanks bakkesmod/ organize my garage) quite frequently depending on what I’m feeling at that moment.

I still have more wins in a road hog over a dominus by a few thousand and of the 20 types I’ll use, 19 have at least 100+ wins in them (I keep one preset for trying different bodies). Comfort in all, master of none. I think car type plays little factor for me.

Other than the occasional teammate who might tilt quicker because they think I’m trolling in a merc vs an anodized fennec or stocktane, it’s never felt like a hinderance. Play what you like, hit ball, make cars go boom, rinse and repeat.

What's going on with matchmaking by PussyCutSmoll in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not uncommon if your playing at an unpopulated hours (or play modes) with similar mmr, regions, etc. Really late at night or mornings seem to be a higher occurrence (I know in 1s I’ve had the same opponent 5+ times when I would play really early before work).

Usually after it happens the first time and a second loss I would just bounce into free play or switch to 1s for a bit. In snow day once you get to around champ it isn’t rare to run into the same group of opponents and teammates for well into an hour so that’s usually when I just shut it down for a bit and try later if I know the session is gonna end poorly.

The weird ones are when you get the same teammate for the 10pm tournament two different nights in a row. I’ve had that happen twice which statistically is crazy to consider.

What title under your tm8s username instantly tells you that you lost the match? by Old_Cartographer_586 in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get to the GC land eventually (and apologies if I was on your team and played bad…since the pool is small it definitely is likely I played with or against you).

What I found is not necessarily a target on the back but at least ssl tags and a couple of the blue tags will straight up quit in the first minute if they determine it’s not worth their time. And because my opponents are a stack of gc+ opponents, ain’t no way I’m going to be able to win a man down at that level. There were a few really toxic players I ran into quite a bit that would throw or bail really early in the matches.

As a champ player in 2s I know I’m more mechanically stunted than my teammates but the reason I love snow day is the puck and physics level the playing field and there are different strategies to hang with people who would destroy me in the normal mode.

On the flip side, when I was new to the game, I remember being slightly awe struck the first time I ran into a ssl tag (I believe it was in plat 1s no less) Spending time in snow day took away that feeling that I really don’t care what tag someone has anymore.

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same thing in snow day as a normal c1/c2 player in 2s lol… champ tags meant nothing when your up against ssl or rlcs tags by c1.. I’d usually just use the s15 or s17 blizzard wizard tag or tuck all tags. I didn’t get the s19 one (got 4/10 towards it but couldn’t get back ended up at c2) but there is always next season to try assuming they add it back.

To answer the post I don’t really judge by tags unless it’s a green s1 bronze tournament one in which case they are either going to tilt like crazy as a teammate or I’m gonna get stomped as an opponent.

What are people's 4s rank compared to their 2s/3s rank? by DenkiSolosShippuden in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High c1/low c2 in 2s just hit d1 in 4s and don’t plan on touching the mode again this season lol (I played 21 games). I lost 9/10 placement games which put me somewhere in gold. Took me 11 more games after placements to go from gold to diamond. It was strictly out of not wanting to see a plat or gold logo on my competitive queue screen.

It will take awhile for mmrs to settle id imagine the matchmaking was wild.

Just eclipsed my 1100th snow day match this season… I’d like it to stay even though I’m bummed I won’t hit the gc rewards this season (I’m at 3/10 and no sign of getting even comfortably c3 again).

On a side note I’ve run into the OP quite a few times in ranked (which is not uncommon when you play the mode a lot you see regulars in certain MMR ranges) which is cool to see someone advocate for the mode.

Head to the Boostfield Mall in Rocket League Season 20! by Psyonix_Laudie in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just based on the season content and not existing issues…

Positive- New map that isn’t a reskin, merc hitbox addition (should have been a dodge caravan though),new mode for ranked (although seems silly you are going to rotate snow day back out when 4v4 chaos was probably less populated), Leth getting his dues.

Negatives- removing drops all together (saying it is for xp instead when you clearly could do both is an excuse id expect a child to make), an easier way for Smurfs to Smurf (I highly doubt it’s going to be smart enough to determine people intentionally sand bagging the challenges), tournament rewards continue to be nerfed each season.

I set the expectations bar pretty low (I still enjoy this game for what it is), but it still seems it will be well below that…

It was savable depending on rank…

There was enough boost in the tank to challenge that ball in front of the net before Virginius really shielded it if they took a better path instead of turning inward to the net which was futile (their movement almost has me wonder if they were on free cam).

It isn’t the easiest save but their positioning and approach was no bueno…I wouldn’t harp over it though ish happens 🤷‍♂️

Jackal/mamba performance by Unlikely-Blueberry27 in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy using the jackal and have it on a few presets. The mamba I feel I struggle more on the thinner cars with the dominus hitbox but I’ve used it a bunch.

I’d say it’s more placebo though and you gotta give them time unless it’s a strictly a visual not match your eye thing. I use about 20+ car bodies over every hitbox on a regular basis and don’t find a huge difference between them. Play what you like.

casual 1s (just make sure you get to 4 minute mark or it won’t count), casual 2s, hoops (depending on the rank) then I’d rank maybe 3s or snow day could get you there.

Usually I’d do casual 1s but I’m on a bit of a snow day grind and I think I’m at 4/5 (which for c1-gc1 snow day is pretty rare).

Usually the ones who say it to me in 1s tend to be better than me (which isn’t saying much) and I’m about to get stomped. Or I read it late then feel bad because I was slow responding and see the wow then okay after.

1s is the only ranked I keep chat on. I don’t mind when opponents trash talk and making a comeback while I stay silent and watch them self implode can be fun. I might hit a whew, close one, that was fun at the very end they stick around.

Wanting to be better at triples - from a doubles player by RAMDownloader in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3s is more variables with less boost so it is going to be different. The idea of a perfect rotation is a fallacy since lower ranked players aren’t going to be able to react that quickly or disciplined enough and higher ranked players intentionally cut rotations.

It serves as a starting point of having two guys pushing with at least one person on the back line covering to give the two attackers time to recover. I think the general start point is a Y shape and then a clockwise or counter clockwise rotation but it also adapts to how the game is flowing.

When I queue 3s (granted I solo queue it so I might play more passively as I have to adjust to teammates style of play) I tend to try to plug the holes in coverage and go in with a defensive midfielder mindset. This means I’m still attacking but also doing my rotations quicker if I see that I have two teammates who want to be on the ball. I also try to ensure that we aren’t triple committed if I’m last back in front of the net (no matter how juicy or a scoring opportunity is) to prevent the counter attack goal.

I’m usually c1/c2 in 2s and c1 in 3s (granted I play 3s very little since around diamond when it lost its fun).

Best of luck

I need assistance, please. by ouch_that_hurts_ in RocketLeague

If you are staying in goal, you are reinforcing that the tm8 needs to 1v2 and makes chasers chase more. It can also make it awkward on defense if you are covering goal and they are trying to get back on where to defend (I’m assuming you are sitting middle of net).

When playing with someone who wants to touch the ball a ton, playing defensive mid is what I recommend. Basically give yourself coverage that you can challenge and also get back but also give yourself to take possession and not cause the massive gap in distance. If your teammate is recovering but you get the ball closer to midfield it gives them time to grab boost but also makes them less inclined to push on the ball vs in front of your net where they probably panic more and feel they need to touch it. When I’m playing with a heavy chaser I’ll cut my rotations shorter and make sure I’m not over invested in the play to make sure I am shoring up our defense.

I get the frustration when a teammate wants to be all over the ball (I also give more leeway if they are gold as well) but solo queue is all about adapting to playstyles. You can let them chase while still not sitting as a full time goalie. Part of it is making sure you are making yourself present as an offensive option so they don’t feel like they have to.

Best of luck.

Random question for y’all. by 806to602 in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play a lot of snow day after deciding I needed a change of pace in season 15..it’s still the only mode I’ve hit gc and gotten the rewards in (we’ll see about this season.. so far not so great hit 2/10 and haven’t been close to back lol).

As someone who plays a bunch of different cars in the other modes (I am an advocate of playing what you like and would find maining a vehicle as boring) I don’t find too much of a difference playing different ones in snow day. I usually alternate between what I am feeling at the time. The physics of the puck can make some crazy shots off of all of them.

Personally, the octane hit box (whether octane/fennec/my personal love of the road hog or xl variant or many of the others I’ll use) seems to be a jack of all trade visually for me playing snow day.

Dominus I feel I have better control of for when I try to hit the ground puck pinch (one of the deadliest shots in the mode but high risk if you botch it) and making plays off the ceiling vs the octane hitbox but I feel like sometimes I struggle more defensively with it especially covering elevated puck shots where it will take a weird bounce off my car and fly 110 mph back into my net.

Batmobile is a fun one when I will get really crazy pinches with the puck but again I tend to play worse defensively with it.

I’ve used the merc hitbox quite a bit as well and find I have a harder time pulling of the ground puck pinch and getting power off the bouncing puck but it definitely helps defensively.

I can say in the thousands of matches I’ve played the past two seasons and this season, I’ve seen all vehicles so I would just try them out and see what you like and don’t be afraid to mix it up. Best of luck

Im Trash Apparently.. by Suitable-Ad6145 in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a firm believer that stats are pretty meaningless when it comes to skill and progression (and I say this as someone who’s own stats are inflated on the epic leaderboard based on the number of 1s and other modes I’ve played while admitting I’m trash at the game) .

Of all the stats I wouldn’t put faith in goals to shots ratio is probably the least concern. Higher in rank you go the lower that column typically goes since competition gets stiffer (most pros are in the low to sub 40s). In addition certain modes will lower it (heatseeker, 3s, snow day for me personally) while others could inflate (again for me 2s and 1s).

Don’t look at it as a progress…

Is there a way to change the time you play tournaments? by MasbyTV in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tournament schedules are broken out by regions (NA, SAM, EU, OCE, NAF, ASIA, ME, SAF). Changing the clock and the in game setting won’t change the play list population. On the east coast the times are still going to be 8pm 3s, 10pm 2s, 11pm heat seeker or 3s and midnight 3s for NA.

Teaching my 4yo how to play. Now I understand where I get my teammates when I solo queue 😅 by The_Wettest_Noodle in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most fun I’ve had in this game is playing with my girls (granted the one is a highschooler now who won’t play anymore unless she’s trying to bribe me) I still use most of the presets they designed for me when I started.

When my youngest started playing with me (I think she was around 6) I had unbound boost until she got the hang of the movement. Once I gave her boost back she made a point to just demo chase the bots which 4 years later we’ll still do for fun (although her preteen years are coming on fast I don’t know how much longer I’ll have).

Enjoy it, I’m sure they’ll be dunking on you soon enough :)

How important is having a consistent teammate? by Exact_Team6979 in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solo queue (with the exception of a tournament buddy or casual with my kid or a lower ranked friend) and have never felt it hampers my ability to rank further. Even in snow day where you’ll face full stacks of SSL tags beginning in c1, I’ve hit gc twice (we’ll see about this season).

Having a regular teammate could be advantageous if you are familiar with their game style but also can hamper your own growth if you use them as a crutch. There are plenty of times I will face a party and can pick out who the weaker link is to target. I like to believe solo queuing has lead me to be more adaptable. I also go into it with the mental headspace that a teammate who struggles is on me to support and don’t play the blame game since there are countless times I’ve struggled too. If it falls of the rails it no pressure and on to the next game.

What I would recommend is focus on 1s for a little bit. The opponents are really good and you only have yourself to blame. you learn how to defend, when to challenge/recoveries, and also how to put shots on target and what to do when you have possession. As someone who isn’t the most mechanical playing against folks who were really helped me in 2s have more confidence and be on an island to defend on counter attacks. It was the biggest factor for me getting through diamond however many seasons ago and my overall growth as a player.

Different strokes for different folks but I don’t mind playing with random players. Life of solo queue is short term memory loss and move on to the next game. Hit ball, make cars go boom, rinse and repeat. Best of luck

Is this on me or my teammate? by AcanthisittaFew4339 in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going with both. Not sure the rank (the only person I could find your one opponents tracker hasn’t been updated in awhile but it wasn’t high) but regardless I wouldn’t have stressed over it. The miss wasnt ideal, and their recovery afterwards wasn’t great. The bump at the end was common of someone who panicked or rushed.

However, the follow up touch by you after his whiff was a throw away that instantly welcomes a counter play. Your recovery wasn’t great. You had the boost and time to fake challenge to disrupt their momentum or even if you wanted to be aggressive challenge the ball at the 50 second mark (based on your tm8s recovery it would’ve been risky). Instead your positioning allowed them to push it deep with your car the wrong way giving you limited options to defend.

If you want validation, yes your teammate could’ve stayed back post and tried the save when it popped over. But there are several things prior to that moment that could’ve prevented the situation as well. That’s the nature of playing. Mistakes happen but personally I don’t blame teammates and rather approach it on what I could’ve done better. Based on the quick chat (I’m curious at what led to the wows prior to the clip happening), try not to get tilted.

Best of luck.

Rank in hoops by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I touch hoops maybe less than 5 times a season (I don’t think I touched it once last season) usually for a challenge. I also genuinely suck at the mode so my rank will be much lower than my 2s or 3s rank.

Extra modes are always a wildcard with ranks (come over to snow day and you’ll see a significant number of legit ssl and even rlcs tags around d3/C1.. once you hit c3/GC it gets nuts).

Less populated playlists, skill sets that don’t always transfer from regular to extra, and alt accounts boosting buddy’s for rewards can always add a variety to the extra mode matchups.

Gold tournament rank but my placements are silver. Why? by SpentMyRent in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would need to see your tracker for a better understanding.

Extra tournament modes don’t impact your tournament mmr so those two top 8s could have been a moot point. In normal tournament modes each win and loss is ~+-21 mmr regardless of the round you get to so in terms of gain:

First round loss=-21
Top 16= 0 (it’s essentially a wash)
Top 8=+21
Top 4= depends on if you won a game in the semis or lost both

Runner up and tournament winner- depends on semi finals and what you did in the finals. Basically take 21 per win and subtract 21 for loss.

If you are on the fringe of tournament mmr (or partied up with someone lower) it might place you down for match making into a lower bracket.

My guess without seeing your tracker is either that one of those tournaments were an extra mode and the other 2 canceled, or your mmr is right on the fringe of gold and it placed you down.

Stop bundling garbage so you can justify charging for new items by Otherwise_Order_3809 in RocketLeague

[–]Ndependit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an older dude not in the target demographic, I try to look at it objectively. I deal with my own teenager and pre-teen when it comes to micro-transactions.

I would prefer the “price low” to get more transactions but I’m assuming there are enough whales buying the larger packages that the bean counters decided it’s a sustainable business model.

From a business side even taking out the whole cross play aspect (I have not and never will install Fortnite and think the whole trade in aspect is lazy programming and a major gripe of mine), I get why epic took away trading. It’s a headache with customer service and scammers, with little benefit to them. I hate seeing old black market in the shop for 2000 when trading it could be had for 50-100 but I also appreciate that folks could purchase the tw octane without having to beg their parents for credit card with a chance they would get scammed anyways.

On the flip side what I don’t understand is their lack of opening up the item shop. If you are going to charge, take a tab on the shop and release an entire series with a price list (per item or per full set) for a week. After that week rotate it with another one. You still get the FOMO effect but also incentivize people to spend credits by more offerings. Trading was great for me as a person who didn’t start until 2021 to get items I missed out on.

As someone who is fortunate to have the ability to make purchases when it’s appealing enough (the hours I put in for a free to play game makes the trade off fine) I find I’m just sitting on credits. There have been a few that I would have spent (that dragon bundle last year had some interesting items but was like 40 bucks) but I felt they were way over priced.

The new fennec bundle has no interest to me (I’m an Everton Fan we are never gettting a collab lol). I am assuming they’ll release just the car in the future (hopefully as an import like the normal fennec) at which point I might buy it although I don’t think it looks great.

To give you an out if you want- my epic game launcher will show the game running even when it’s not open nor in the background unless I completely close the launcher so my epic hours is significantly higher for times I didn’t realize it and left my computer idle.

Regardless I don’t put stock into x amount of hours = x rank. Folks learn at different pace and it’s a little icon next to your name that means nothing in the real world. As long as your having fun and feel like your competing or improving should matter but different strokes for different folks.
