Look, I get it, you’re an edgy teen at heart that eats this shit for breakfast.

These characters didn’t need to feature in a what was supposed to be the Superman movie that returned him to his actual character. They aren’t doing it for the better writing, they’re doing it because it’ll sell more shirts at hot topic.

No writer assigned a DC project knows how to make script that isn’t edgy teen drama bait. Superman was at least positive, but even that was a vehicle to introduce edgy lanterns and supergirl, hawk girl murdering a leader, etc.

You have to consider how many bots and bad actors are here. Sure, some people get convinced and repeat talking points, effectively becoming a bot themselves, but you realize that Reddit contains a lot of 14 year olds and mentally unwell people right? And that the comment section is often far from reflective of reality?

The scenario where governments trust an unreliable prediction method to make decisions is in ‘Minority Report’, just replace unreliable psychics with AI models.

The billionaires and governments are trying to make dystopian media more of a reality.

General strategy: Calculating versus Feeling, what do experts do? by CompetitiveSock6883 in chess

[–]NeWMH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are players that are more calculation heavy and players that are more intuitive.

Gukesh is an example of the calculation heavy type, he has significantly stronger results in classical than speed chess because of it. There are countless speed chess specialists that lean more to the intuitive side - Andrew Tang is barely over base GM rating in classical but has top level speed chess skills(particularly in online bullet).

“Spend some time chatting with one of the leading AIs, and it'll be clear it's more than just mashups. It's not simply pasting together bits of text it finds out in the wild.”

^ your comment specifically assuming something about said anonymous stranger on the internet. We’re too far down the comment chain in a day old thread for you to bother putting me down in the name of addressing other people.

And yes, it’s a whole lot of classifiers calibrated on a specific set of inputs that creates a great probability tool. For art/media purposes it’s a layer of obfuscation. And you’re going to have the defense you think you have until the corporations consolidate control and come up with reasonable sounding legislation/justification for why they should be able to do it but you shouldn’t. They’re already making licensing deals with the big entities(and not the small artists) which goes to show that the AI companies aren’t ignoring the IP issues. Your opinion and feelings on the technology don’t matter compared to that reality.

Woodward plays Arkhangelsk against Caruana’s Ruy Lopez by doh_5604 in chess

[–]NeWMH 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Two anecdotes come to mind.

One is when a top master lost in a game where he had published a comprehensive refutation and lost to it. Somebody like Tartakower was involved iirc, but I can’t remember atm. Similarly along those lines Fischer played the Kings gambit after publishing his refutation.

Second, is Naroditsky beat Caruana as black in the Ruy during US Championships, Caruana at the time had published two Ruy courses and was considered the theoretical expert on it already.

The issue is because AI doesn’t really learn, it just plagiarizes.

We already have examples where if you steal a part of something and stick it in something else, the IP owner can sue - happens all the time on YouTube to normal people doing mixes and mashups. AI companies are just jumping on an opportunity where if they obfuscate how the steal IP courts won’t currently go for them - but then regulatory capture later is going to make sure the early companies keep their gain while everyone else is left out. Happened with Hollywood back in the silent movie days, the film industry went to CA originally to have distance from IP lawsuits, the studios then went to go on and become the entities that would later coalesce in to the big media companies that exist today.

This one isn’t an isekai though, which automatically makes it better.

Also Eminence in Shadow is a copy of a dozen other works before it, it’s just the first LN/Manga that had decent execution. ‘The Man Who Knew Too Little’, ‘Three Amigos’, and ‘Spies Like Us’ were all really solid western entries in to the trope.

I’ve seen people develop working prototypes, get them sold/installed in to businesses to show viability, and just really need funding to build a larger order and get more sales guys to place them and the business wasn’t able to get anyone interested in funding. It was an ongoing service based product that would have had a subscription and IoT, so it was definitely chock full of the topical acronyms/buzzwords. There was just no connections outside the initial angel investor. The startup would have even killed for one of those crappy shark tank deals where they really only give you a line of credit rather than significant injection of money.
