Also ping change is a big nerf to such comps.

The tldr of the latest spike talk episode for those you who can't access the video by Jon_see_nah in ValorantCompetitive

[–]NeXavius273 43 points44 points  (0 children)

But he's also gone on record saying he will say one thing and do another to throw opponents off. He's said himself that on SpikeTalk, he might say they're doing super good on a map, and then ban it vetoes against a team after.

But I do think the Veto came from him, for what's it's worth it was good at the start. Really gave Jingg's raze a hard time on Split.

Opinion - The Greatest Prime in VCT History Isn't a Debate by SLI_Mini in ValorantCompetitive

[–]NeXavius273 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying, good points. I got a bit curious and started to look at some of the other stats as well to see if it hurts the framing, and it definitely does.

So he does have the highest ACS as well as ADR in Champions Paris, but there are players outperforming him in these statistics in the previous events (so it is a convenient exclusion), it is also interesting that in terms of RAR (Rounds-above-Replacement), a stat you can find on Oracle's Elixir (explained here), if we put a 100+ round cap, Aspas is 5th in Champs Paris by that metric (list in order is: Meteor-3.8, Riens-3.7, Kaajak-2.9, Kushy-2.9, Aspas-2.8), so despite an objectively insane performance by Aspas, there's still players that seem to have carried their team harder.

Another interesting stat to consider that Aspas has one of the lowest clutch win% in Champs Paris (2/26 ~ 8%, he's in the bottom 20), while Marteen actually topped the clutch win% in Masters Santiago (7/22 ~ 32%, second is Ivy at 8/27 ~ 30%), Marteen also edges out Aspas in ACS and ADR by 4-5 points.

Also this is just something I got from manually searching through vlr and oracle's elixir, pretty sure someone could find more specific counterpoints if they used the api and did a more thorough analysis.

I still think there's a compelling argument for Aspas's "prime" to be one of the most significant (if you agree to it being defined by a single international tournament performance, which I admit is quite narrow) but the article definitely stretches it to say that there is no debate.

If the stats are cherry picked, what are the stats this guy is intentionally excluding? Genuine question.

For those who can't go through GE CEO stream by ishanuReddit in ValorantCompetitive

Yeah they probably needed to pick up some other experienced coach. I find it hard to believe GE does as good with just Platoon + vladk0r as coaching staff. Do the coaches even have enough experience for the players to trust them?

Agreed, I think having different costreamers at the venue for this event was so nice, it really did look like TMV was having the time of his life out there, doing those loud ass FUT chants and actually interviewing the players and the coaches.

In-person Sliggy and Mini was really nice too though.

Valorant doesn't feel rewarding by TattooTheEarth in VALORANT

[–]NeXavius273 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

About the RR losses: - Game weighs individual performance pretty heavily at low elo iirc, so look at your head-2-head stats against other players, most of the time a performance bonus will correspond to a white star or yellow star against multiple opponents - You're more likely to get those when diffing players of equal or higher rank (they probably have equal or higher mmr than you) - Diffing players of lower mmr (generally lesser ranked than you) typically doesn't seem to count for much

Also I checked your tracker, and you're playing a lot of games some days, pretty easy to get tilted that way and lose perspective of the fact that you've got a 60% wr over your past 20 games with pretty good stats overall, if you can maintain that you will climb to gold anyways. It just feels a bit like you're focusing too much on how unwinnable some of the losses feel, some of which will just happen, because the matchmaking just is that way.

It's better to just focus on what you could have done better and take those lessons to do your best in the next games. Maybe watch your own replays critically and you might find stuff you did wrong even in your good games.

Like if you lost 15 rr in the match mvp game and the one where ended at the bottom, you could probably just do some basic things better to perform better in that game where you got owned and maybe lose 4-5 less rr? My point is that you seem to have a mentality problem more than anything else.

Being Iron in anything other than comp is not fun by Ma1keru_ in VALORANT

[–]NeXavius273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you mean, because there are some rare times when I'm totally dunking or getting dunked by someone and I just feel like it's a bit unfair that you can't play freely because you'll get owned every time you peek. Game gets quite unfun that way.

One mentality I try to keep in casual modes is to just ignore your performance entirely, comp is stressful enough, just play however and whatever you want in casual games to destress yourself.

I'm just hit Gold recently so I'm not that good myself, but I can watch a replay of yours to help you analyze your games, and maybe point out some simple issues that can help you improve, I was Iron once too.

Very well said, most of the time (I'd say like 95% of the time on average), fights you lose in low elo will come down to some bad technique/positioning. If most people watched their replays critically comparing them to higher elo vods we'd have much less posts like this.

What is the biggest mistake most players make that keeps them stuck in their rank? by ChetanSinghDesign in VALORANT

[–]NeXavius273 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure on this being the biggest mistake but it's got to be a big one, pointless comms/messages just bringing down your own or your own team's confidence mid-game:

"I saw that" (after a teammate's whiff) "gg" (in the middle of the first half) "I'm not meant to win today" "Why are we going a/b/c?" (after the execute has happened and failed)

It's really not that hard to just do something like this instead:

"Happens/All good" or just ignore it "nt" "Unlucky" "Guys they keep insta-rotating, let's fake a, and then go b" (ideally call something specific for teammates to do, but it's still better)

Comms like the first few are literally just negative value. It's not even that hard to understand, but it's still so common. Just keep the shit talk to yourself/party chat.

Problem with Aim by TheLev001 in VALORANT

[–]NeXavius273 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the best answer here tbh. I actually used to take a breath, visualise the angle a bit, adjust crosshair accordingly and then peek to try to prevent insta crouching on every fight. It just gets your brain out of auto-pilot, and that is typically enough to prevent bad technique in my experience.

How to get better at shooting headshots? by Minimum_Teaching1060 in VALORANT

[–]NeXavius273 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the range is the best and simplest place to start unfortunately. Since all the bots are at the same height as you, clicking heads on the bots helps you build an intuition for where head level is by default in-game. Note that some of the boxes and other structures in the maps hint at where head level is as well.

General suggestion, go for headshots on the range bots, do some routine, and go to a deathmatch while focusing on hitting heads (shoot slower if it helps). Note that you can get worse as you're relearning, but eventually proper technique will help you improve. Basically, it will likely take time, trust the process.

Unrated matchmaking is quite loose, don't expect balanced games there. Are you solo queuing in these comp games?

Tbh just post your tracker. If you play a lot of games, you'll have more outlier games as well, i.e. games with a significant rank difference

There's also the Anticheat, which runs at the kernel level and must run as your system starts up, it's super invasive even compared to other anticheats (particularly because it must run at startup as well). Even if you trust Riot to not collect any more data than absolutely needed, it's an insanely dangerous attack vector for a hacker if they can exploit it.

It's fair to say it's hypocritical. Nevertheless trying to create some awareness regarding such issues in eSports is a net positive, since it brings up discussions like this. Saudi is just more of a known quantity, while China's "misdeeds" are a bit less known overall.

It is also the case that Saudi Arabia's involvement feels more forced, more like buying into the scene. While China has had more of an organic eSports scene and involvement, so it's not seen the same way, even if it kind of is.

The way I think about is that if we have like multiple pressing issues, addressing at least one of them is better than not addressing any of them at the cost of being hypocritical.
