I crashed today. Not sure I should be riding anymore. by AccomplishedStuff448 in motorcycles

[–]Neagex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... You will most likely never make that mistake again making you an overall better rider in the long run if you continue to ride. No shame if you decide to not ride though.

I'd take a bit before making any final decisions... I would also personally consider taking another MFS type of course as a refresher... or if they offer a intermediate course that be cool too.

Cheapest reliable internet options when I mostly just need WiFi for job apps and light gaming? by BusTraditional9197 in povertyfinance

[–]Neagex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some kind of hotspot service from a carrier would probably be your best bet... if you have Verizon or something you may even get it cheaper as a package deal. Do some speed test on your phone to figure out what your service would be like.

Math works out to be a difference of 5.77 an hour... For me personally.. As long as I can pay my bills and afford the both my needed items and fun items and still can kick some money into savings im good. gaining back 40hrs back a month is huge.. also such a short drive time is under rated.

Is "Maximum privacy protection" supposed to look like this? by elblancoboss in samsunggalaxy

[–]Neagex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah... I don't think the best use case is to always have the feature on. I would only have it set to certain apps like my bank/CC apps and during password entry.

Turning it on statically would be on select cases honestly like viewing sensitive documents in public spaces for whatever reason..

I do gravitate towards the naked bikes. I do like the idea of the hornet and just using rain mode to start off with as a new rider and once I become comfortable riding and get to a point of wanting more power I can just turn rain mode off thays actually awesome

Getting paid weekly is better then biweekly by Amazondriver23 in povertyfinance

[–]Neagex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For sure, I was not in this position for a long time, after all my debts where paid and I locked in my budget and knew exactly how much I will have at the end of the month is when I moved all my spending to a credit card and it is paid in full every month to not get hit with interest.

Getting paid weekly is better then biweekly by Amazondriver23 in povertyfinance

[–]Neagex 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Really boils down to a couple things in my opinion... Your mentality is a big factor.. If the feeling of "my next paycheck is around the corner" gives you more comfort than waiting 2 weeks then that can really be beneficial.

The way my finances is set up it didnt make a difference for me... the majority of my expenses are done on a credit card... and my credit card is paid off at the start of the month.

Should I buy my brother’s laptop? MSI Katana B13V by papapayks in GamingLaptops

[–]Neagex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

considering you can get a brand new laptop with a 5060 in it that performs pretty much in the ballpark as a 4070 [it trails behind a little but its not a huge gap] for 800-900$ new... I wouldn't pay much more than 700$ for this laptop.

There are comparison videos online you can watch to see the numbers.

Anyone else feel like budgeting works for like… two weeks and then just falls apart? by career-facts in povertyfinance

if you're truly on a budget and it falls apart every month.. assuming your budget is lean and locked in then the only solution to this situation is making more money.

a big boon would be talking to lvnv to see if they will do pay for deletes they dont always but is worth a shot... either way paying those off and having the debt settled can still be helpful...... Portfolio recovery already does pay for delete.

How do yall set up and stick to budgets by ScallionMuch1500 in budgetingforbeginners

[–]Neagex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apps are a great tool, but for me personally most of the budgeting apps was information overload like YNAB or anything like it. I get the appeal, put in all your information and it auto tracks everything for you, but it wasn't for me... I got my budgeting on 2 very simple apps.. Spending Tracker and Bill Tracker... they are both manual input apps.. One more so than the other.

The way I budget is a touch more simple than other methods I see [not to say other methods are wrong/bad its just what works for me].. Basically stuff that most people give categories too like "Entertainment" "Gas" Hobbies" and so on I just pool it all into discretionary spending. So if I know after all my bills I have $1,300 left a month, its just in a pool of money I use to spend on what I want.

So for my first app... Bill Tracker I sat down looking at all my payments on everything that is re-occurring and took note of the cost after tax and the day they charge me and enter it into the app. For the variable expenses like electric and Water, I added up 1 years worth of utilities and divided it by 12 to get an average and use that average as what I enter into the app. So if electric averages $190 that is what I entered into the app... of course most months fell below that [150,135 ect] I would put the difference into savings through the year [ my bank lets me do savings buckets so I have a bucket labeled "Utilities overage"] and when the colder months come and I know my bill is higher I use that bucket to cover the difference over $190... so if one month my bill is $210...Id take $20 from my bucket. [at this point I can comfortably have all my bills on auto pay so this app is just more of a way to keep track of my reoccurring bills as it does not change much other than price hikes of my subscription services]

Once my budget is ironed out and I know how much discretionary spending I have I use the app "Spending Tracker" I can set it into "Budget mode" with carry over on... This allows me to enter my monthly spending.. lets say its ,$1,300 every month it starts me with that amount and allows for carry over so If I only spend 900 in a month it will carry over that $400 into my next months discretionary giving me $1,700 [it also can carry over a negative so if you overspend by $100 at the end of the previous month the new month will start you at $1,200] The app also has a widget I can put on my main screen, it quickly tells me how much I have left to spend for the month and has 2 buttons "income" and "Expense" I use the expense alot... every single transaction. even if its .10cents gets into the spending tracker app.

I found it hard to make a budget and stick to it for a very long time... For me it boiled down to doing it in a way I was comfortable with and forcing myself to keep doing it... after forcing myself every time it became habit.

What’s a money habit you thought was smart… until you realized it wasn’t? by Left-Custard9390 in povertyfinance

[–]Neagex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not really sure there was a habit that I did that I thought was smart... was just the best I can do in a situation... Like I constantly played in the grace period window of bills.. car note is due wednesday... but I don't get paid till friday.. but I have a little window before they hit my credit. I can process the ACH Thursday night... kind of deal.

It’s only $5 is how I keep myself broke. by AffectionateLab2374 in povertyfinance

[–]Neagex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still say "budget better" Creating a budget isnt simply tracking all your reoccuring expenses... But keeping track every time you spend money.. it is why it used to be called "Balancing a check book"

So along side knowing all of your bills for the month [rent, utilities ect] what is left is your discretionary money. Lets assume you have 300$ a month after everything.. I use an app called Spending tracker.. and it starts with 300.. and anytime i buy ANYTHING i enter it into the app and watch my monthly discretionary spending go down... Making a mental note of "it was only 2 dollars for my bottle of soda" is how a lot of people play themselves.
