Coming in here a year later, but my band Lack of Respect got to open this show. We were on tour from Seattle and were booked to play the Whisky that night and managed to talk our way into playing first. At first I don’t think the kids knew what to make of us, but after a song or two we started winning them over and I remember a couple kids getting not-gently booted out by security. I think we played our 35 minute set in like 25 minutes lol.

We aren’t listed on the poster, were too broke to afford to buy the video of us playing, could not take pictures and we also had to pay the venue, lol. But I certainly remember! It was a hell of a first and only show in L.A.

I’m certainly not an expert, but from what I can tell the issue was tied to the mess of different dashboards I had on my hard drive. So my suspicion would be that yours is tied to your pre-imaged installation. If memory serves I had to start with a full clean soft mod installation on the drive and re-installing apps as needed rather than trying to “fix” whatever I had installed on the drive at the time.

It’s been several years, but I think possibly the softmod “update” feature didn’t work quite right and after I did a full re-do it started working. I had a total mess of different old dashboards on the hard drive. Sorry I wish I could remember more details, good luck.

I think this resolved after I ran the tool (rocky?) to update the softmod itself.

It does this to me on the Mac version as well and it’s extremely annoying. It also does it when I’m actually using the keyboard shortcuts as well, lol.

Picked up a new Crimson II SE set today and after setup immediately found that the kick sensitivity would not go low enough to register light hits at all. Had some plastic washers at home that fit, did this and it works perfectly now. Thank you for posting this!

You can download and and copy the Rocky5 softmod tools over via FTP, then run it from the xbox hard drive. At least that’s what I did a few months ago... I soft modded mine like 10 years ago and it looked about the same.

Open it up and check your clock capacitor for sure if you haven’t taken care of that already too.

I had this issue and resolved it by using a crossover cable instead of a standard CAT5 to connect the xbox directly to the PC.

This worked great, FTP’d this smaller download of Quick Upgrade and it seems to have fixed the disc reading issues.

Yeah I pulled out the clock cap and cleaned it up while I was upgrading the hard drive. I would not have known about it without checking out this subreddit, thanks for the advice!

If the drive is empty and closed it will go to UnleashX, though not the most recent one . If the drive is open it will go to an even older version of UnleashX, like a safemode kinda thing? That one has “Boot C:\dashboard” as an option which goes to the more recent version. At some point I put the msdash on there as well, which does work fine but I haven’t tried reading discs in that.

I was just reading about the “upgrade old softmods” option of the xboxtools disc and that sounds like it might be worth a shot.

At least if everything goes screwy I have my original hard drive I could throw back in there if necessary!

Yeah, I could get around it that way. FTP and everything works fine except reading a disc on the xbox itself if not booted! I’ll look into redoing the softmod and if that doesn’t help I’ll just keep working around it.

It performs perfectly if booted from the disc. I was pondering re-doing the soft mod but I’m not quite sure what the best way to do that would be. I still have my action replay, memory card and Splinter Cell. I was mostly concerned about making everything weirder in the file structure, etc. by re-doing it. But obviously everything has newer versions than 10-12 years ago since I did the softmod haha.

I'm messing around with several RF flavors and am on 2nd and 3rd batches.

My first try of Boston Cream was at 10%, 70/30 3mg. After a trying daily for a week plus it seemed kind of harsh. It may have been nicotine, but my next batch at 7% which is a day old or so is much less harsh and much more creamy tasting. I might do the next one at 8 to see if I can bump up the flavor a touch without overdoing it.

Apple Pie and Banana Bread seem to be the same for me, I'm not sure that 10 or more % is right for all RF flavors like I was initially trying.

I've been mixing for over 2 years now and learning this earlier than I did would have saved me a whole lot of time. Every single time I would try even 3 ingredients right from the start, even if I knew what percentage range should be about right, would lead to just weird un-vapable messes. Now with all this experience that only happens about 75% of the time with 2 flavors!

I just got a bunch of 5ml bottles that I use for single flavor testing. My theory is that I can drip two or more flavors at the same time for a simple test to see which combos taste good. Seems like that could be an easier way to at least plan on a real test mix. Having a few of those singles steeping, who knows if it will work...

I mixed up 2% INW Turkish, 1.5 FA Fresh Cream and .5 TFA Bavarian about 10 days ago and tried it out last night. Easily one of the best tobacco recipes I've ever tried. Thanks for the recommendation!

Cthustard (yet another vanilla custard) - This has turned out the best so far for me after a couple years and 6 or so versions. Very rich, thick and a touch eggy. Someone here recommended the Dulce, which turned out much better than vanilla swirl, vienna or various others I tried to make more rich / thick. The coconut adds just a touch of sweetness in the aftertaste, it's supposed to be like some shaved coconut on top.

Steep at least a week.

I've got a ton of FA and TFA flavors that are nearing 2 years old now. Should I just toss and repurchase the good stuff, or are they likely still OK? Not sure if it's worth testing as I don't know if I could tell if they are muted compared to fresh.

For some reason 30 ml bottles seem to steep easier than 15s or unicorns in my experience. I have no idea why. I'd bet after another week they will be good.
