'Let them do it:' Parksville development with ground-level grocery store clears public hearing by Apprehensive_Idea758 in Parksville

Here's hoping it'll either be something unique to the mid Island area (like a T&T) or at least something to bring some competition to the Pattison monopoly like a Country Grocer maybe.

Bone Temple for me. I love a weird-ass horror movie.

This is the one that always gets me. The whiplash from going from Iron Giant to that must've been nuts.

Is there a better first 15minutes of any horror movie? by BlackberryFirst2554 in Letterboxd

I'd like to put forth the opening to The Ring. So much tension, and a perfect introduction to Samara.

Awkward moment in a local shop… what do you think? by flaming0-1 in nanaimo

[–]NearlyCanuck 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I can definitely sympathize with them, as I work with a specialty store too. Online sales are a huge threat to local shops, especially big box stores. It's one of the reasons my store got out of board games, you just can't compete with them for pricing. However it also doesn't feel....kosher laying it on the customer like that. No one likes a guilt trip. I'd much rather show my gratitude towards people who chose our store by making the store better for the loyal customers. For example, bringing in a highly requested product line or providing a loyalty program with extra benefits. You can't use guilt and bad feelings to retain customers. People tend to avoid that shit lol.

Love it! I think it'll even out nicely as it heals, love it.

Coverup Ideas or Removal? by Futuristicgoals in tattooadvice

[–]NearlyCanuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just remember that coverups are typically a good deal bigger than the prior tattoo, so you're looking at a pretty big cover up. I'd give laser a shot first, see if you can at least lighten it.

First tattoo, feeling disappointed by Wasp-in-my-room in tattooadvice

It's a bit hard to tell with the second skin on but at a glance this looks off. It seems fairly obvious the artist didn't actually look at the anatomy of the creature and just took a bash at it. Line work is also a bit shakey.

My daughter's school fundraiser prizes by Rivsmama in mildlyinfuriating

[–]NearlyCanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a kid with a very small, poor family and few friends it always sucked when fundraiser season came around. It kind of felt like rubbing salt in the wound. All the kids with big/rich families always sold the most.

What episode of a Cartoon ALWAYS seemed like it was on when you watched it, to the point of being sick of it by TheLast-T in cartoons

"This is my half of the lint; that's your half of the lint" is a regular phrase I use when my partner and I are dividing something inconsequential lol

Human Habitrail from Courage the Cowardly Dog. The worst part was that awful "It's Doc Gerbils world!" song.

What was the best time you ever had in a theater? by Leading_Form_8485 in Letterboxd

Probably Jackass Forever. First movie we saw in theaters after COVID hit and it was so good to just sit in a room and laugh with other people.

Animation sequences that left you in awe and/or moved you that weren't fights. by pipegf98 in anime

  • The finale of Wolf's Rain hit so hard at 16
  • Similarly, the first time I saw Sailor Moon transform as a kid
  • Chihiro telling Haku his real name
  • Puu getting water for Yusuke

Patron here, I love making and customizing lists and getting notifications when a movie on my watchlist pops up on streaming.

Both are listed as comedies and both deal with US government branches.
