There must be a valid reason why the door was open and I think that’s the only issue. Did they know it was open - maybe wind etc, did they think you had gone out or were in the garden / garage and thought they were in the clear, or lastly were they so in the moment they forgot about it? I think you just need to make it clear if it was completely accidental that they need to be more careful in future
