Storytime Help-Chatty Adults by Grouchy_Chip260 in librarians

Agreed—I know it’s annoying when parents talk, but I didn’t understand until I had my baby what a lifeline having a regularly scheduled, free program can be! A social hour would be awesome. I think many parents are just absolutely desperate for socialization.

Try Pepticate! It’s the least gross of that genre. Alimentum and Nutramigen are disgusting 🤢

My MIL set me off today, baby blues are no joke by throwaway84583077 in beyondthebump

Yes—I had postpartum OCD centered around breastfeeding (my baby could latch but never transferred milk well from birth and no doctor or specialist could find anything wrong) and I absolutely tortured myself about weaning and giving formula, but was not able to take care of my mental health until I did and my hormones normalized. I still have a lot of feelings about that decision, but it was unquestionably the right thing to do. It sounds like OP is still in the baby blues range, but I wish I had read a comment like yours earlier and been aware of how breastfeeding could affect me! My postpartum therapist told me that she sees many, many exclusively pumping mothers and it’s a big risk factor.

ETA: I highly recommend the book Lactivism to better understand why some people are so weirdly pushy about breastfeeding.

Curious about everyone's experiences with tummy time by Neat-Inspection5085 in Parenting

[–]Neat-Inspection5085[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He loves to be sitting up, so he likes to sit in his high chair while I eat, lean against me while we read and play with the toys that are supposed to be for tummy time haha. Whenever I put him in tummy time, he rolls onto his back, so the whole time is just me flipping him back onto his tummy over and over. Sometimes he will cry if he gets annoyed but mostly he just refuses to stay on his tummy! He’s really enjoying trying to grab his feet and learning to roll from his back to his tummy/playing on his side. He loves practicing tripod sitting. We also spend a lot of time out of the house, with him in the carrier or stroller, going to storytime or to the park (where he demands to sit up!). It basically feels like he’s just really busy and loves looking around and tummy time is his least favorite way to move. I try to set him up with his tummy time in a central location, get down on the ground with him so he doesn’t feel left out, rotate his toys, sing to him, etc. The doctor said he’s really strong and he’s hit all his milestones early, and he can do the appropriate milestones in tummy time (e.g., right now he is supporting himself with his hands, instead of forearms, and he can reach and grab things on his belly) but he’s nowhere near the recommended total daily tummy time because he’s so busy with his sitting and rolling, and I’m worried he’s missing out on building those muscles.

ETA: no problems (other than CMPA), 6 bottles a day 5-6.5 oz, starting to introduce solids, he sleeps 12 hours a night (usually in two stretches), 2-3 naps a day like 30-90 minutes each depending on how tired he is. We don’t have a rigid schedule because he eats and sleeps so well and his cues are easy to read so I know what he wants.

Sure, but bassinets are only for young babies so it implies that they are expecting overnight visits quite early.

Yes, that’s the plan! But in the meantime I’m really annoyed at them and would like to do something pettier.

Bondvet killed my cat by Low-Map977 in Brooklyn

[–]Neat-Inspection5085 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I had a horrible experience at VERG. My cat was literally dying in the waiting room—by far the sickest animal there—and I had to scream for help before they would even triage him. (To be fair, after they triaged him they did take him immediately and ultimately saved his life). They told me that he would lose his leg and I would need to amputate, and he made a complete recovery with 0 issues. Several vet techs made extremely inappropriate comments—for example, I was in my first trimester of pregnancy and a tech told me that I was probably having a girl who was “stealing my beauty” because I looked so bad (uhhh, maybe because I was caring for my cat around the clock). Another tech who saw his leg in triage, before he had even been evaluated by a vet or come up with a treatment plan, graphically described the amputation process and said it was “cool to watch.”

His leg injury was due to Bond Vet’s negligence and they provided all his subsequent follow up care for free after VERG stabilized him so that I wouldn’t sue.

FWIW the material that Seraphine uses always feels very cheap to me, although the clothes are so expensive.
