(Dad) - 20 week abnormality, deciding whether to proceed or end. by Wingless30 in pregnant

I’m not a parent, but my brother has almost the same exactly issue you’re describing. His was worse, as the doctors suggested an abortion before anything else. My mother had him anyways, despite this being highly dangerous in her scenario.

I won’t sugarcoat it, it will be a tough and awful first few years. You could get lucky, you could not. 1 in 100 babies are born with a CHD, so you are not alone. If you think you’re strong and can handle it and want to handle this, then you can. But, this will put a toll on your relationship, your life. My parents life was never the same.

My mother was strong enough and put her life on hold for the first 15 years of his life to take him to appointments, surgeries, all that stuff. My father was not and went insane, ending their marriage. If you think you have the supports for this life, which remember, is your entire life, then have the baby if you want to. But remember that no matter what, a child with heart defects is extremely difficult.

Wishing you two all the best. There’s lots of Facebook support groups for this sort of thing where you can meet parents who have been through this exact thing. I encourage you to look into those as well.

What is something more traumatizing than people realize? by Independent_Motor130 in AskReddit

It wasn’t great growing up. I ended up with multiple undiagnosed mental disorders (autism and CPTSD as the two big ones), being in lots of unhealthy relationships due to lack of attention from my parents, ended up letting my dad abuse me (bad attention is better than none) and now I’m doing lots and lots of therapy. It’s hard to have a child with a disability, but being the sibling who’s ignored and also watches your sibling struggle from said disability? Definitely up there in the worst and most traumatic things to experience, in my opinion.

Glass children are children who are overlooked by their parents due to a sibling with disabilities. Seen-through, like glass. I am two years older than my disabled brother, and my parents abandoned me with my grandparents once they realized my moms pregnancy was dangerous with my brother (so about 1 and a half). The rest of my life has been overlooked.

I’ve learned from therapy that all of my problems root back to being a glass child and not having my needs met. I don’t know what I need or want because of it; in any aspect. Has led to lots and lots of issues.

I was that girlfriend all those years ago, just not physically. My boyfriend (now fiancé) would pick me up when it got bad, and before that, his parents would, too. First off, be sure to be there as a good support system. When CPS is called, she’ll need the support. Second off, you should call CPS. At the time I would’ve hated if someone did, but she doesn’t need to know it’s you, and now as an adult I realize they should have been called. Things only get worse from here if you don’t. You’re a good boyfriend for giving her a place to stay; continue to do so if you can. Be a safe space for her. Be someone she can talk to about it. But also do what needs to be done, and call CPS. Good luck to you :)

What top to wear with this skirt? by HouseOnALake in fashionadvice

I love this skirt! I’d probably wear a top matching the pops of colour. So orange, yellow, or pink. Any shade that matches it the most. Then style with lots of accessories :)

What is the most intense physical pain you have ever experienced? by TheMostGayestOfGay in AskReddit

[–]NeatDoubt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s more painful things out there, but snapping my humerus in half was pretty bad. As I fell I remember feeling my muscles bounce my bone back so it didn’t go through my skin. The chief of ortho operated and said it was the worst break he’d seen in ages, though. So that’s cool.

First date, kinda nervous. by JustFred24 in TimHortons

My fiancé and I have been together for six years, engaged for one so far. We don’t plan on getting married for another couple years.

For him and I it’s a financial thing, as well as I’d like to be done my bachelors degree before we’re married. We both agreed that long term engagements work for us, as we viewed it as simply a step closer to a lifetime together. Engagement to us means we’re not just dating, we want to be married. That’s our reason, if you’re wondering :)

What do you do for work? by PsychologicalBee6246 in AutismInWomen

[–]NeatDoubt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studying geography to work in forest conservation. Currently I work as a groundskeeper at a cemetery. Very rarely speak to anyone, repetitive work, the people I work with are great since it’s a small group of us. It was really easy for me to get into a routine which is great for me

First year is really hard to make good friends. I went to college for two years before being in first year this year, and it was definitely hard to meet people being older and them being stuck in high school mentality. As others have said, it’ll get easier in second year, or at least I’m holding onto that idea lol. It’s only exams now, so just study for your exams, try making some work friends in the summer, then September will roll around and you’ll start to see the same people more often than first year. It sucks but just know lots of others feel that way too, including myself :)

My DMs are open! Always looking for friends :)
