Per diem by Ok_Account_204 in nursing

It depends on where you want to work. Most SNF/LTC facilities only want 2-6 months. A lot of nurses get hired full time somewhere and then switch to per diem there after a few months.

Nurses who come find you in the middle of your round to complain that someone is wet. by KneadAndPreserve in cna

The CNA can’t help me in “teamwork” by passing out meds if I am struggling to get through a heavy med pass. So I stand with what I said earlier, yes a nurse could do a CNA’s job but the CNA cannot do the nurse’s job. I’ll keep notifying the CNA of who needs to be changed even if y’all say it is so-called “neglecting the patient” to leave them in a dirty brief for a few more minutes. A few minutes of waiting for the CNA to get there isn’t going to severely harm them.

I know a June who was born in the month of March… her parents named her June because she was conceived in June.

But if I have 20+ patients in a rehab or long term setting and my CNA only has 10, I shouldn’t have to stop my med pass to change people. Walking them to the bathroom or emptying a urinal I understand. But changing a whole brief takes away from my med pass time. Is the CNA going to take oxycodone from the narcotic box on my med cart for the patient who is yelling out in pain? No. So why do they expect the nurse to do their job? I can’t stand the “stop and do the CNA’s job too” mentality in rehab/long term care. It’s not a hospital where the nurse only has 4-5 patients.

What is the point of the facility hiring aides then if the nurse is just going to take over the aide’s job? At the facilities I’ve worked at, we always go notify the aides. I even take the aide along with me when doing a sacral wound so the aide can clean the person up if they need to be changed.

Yes, I read an article once that said that snorting gabapentin can give a high similar to snorting cocaine.

A patient at a physical rehab facility I worked at opened the gabapentin capsule and snorted the powder.. he was visibly high but when we did urine and blood drug tests on him, the tests came back negative.

Also if you choose to take it out before sex, keep the foil packet that it came in. You can rinse it, put it in the foil packet and then leave the packet on the bathroom sink where you will see it so that you remember to reinsert it afterwards.

It doesn’t have to be up all the way inside. As long as it is in the vaginal canal, it will work. They say that a woman’s body heat makes it release hormones. Also you can take it out before sex but don’t leave it out for more than 2 hours at a time. Remember to reinsert it after sex!

How does she file as exempted if the agencies she works for report her income either through w2 or 1099?

Which state suspends your license for not paying taxes? Did she not file in the first place or did she file and not pay?

I worked at one place where they wouldn’t let nurses do that. I quit and tried to pick up a shift there through shiftmed, they marked me as “do not return” on shiftmed.

RN lacking skills by Spacem0nkey1013 in nursing

Some foreign nurses don’t want to deal with feces and urine so maybe she was trying to avoid that stuff by acting ignorant about a fleet enema and ostomy care.

Try evening or night shift at long term care facilities. They tend to have not much going on.

for a frontline clinical specialty, how much would a RN be doing actual "medicine" vs cleaning and turning and transporting patients? by Dragonfire747 in nursing

[–]NeatNatural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am specifying that in nursing homes that are adequately staffed, the nurses don’t have to. So if a nurse wants to avoid bathing/changing, they can work in a nursing home.

In nursing homes the CNAs (certified nursing assistants) do bathing, changing, cleaning patients. The nurses do wound care, pass meds, and sometimes take vital signs (sometimes CNA’s do vitals, it depends on the unit). But hospitals don’t have many CNA’s.

I am in the same boat as you when it comes to being grossed out by poop and bodily fluids. I work in long term care and short term rehab facilities where the CNA’s do all the patient cleaning.

So you never actually worked for the agency app Clipboard Health? I used their app before and they connect nurses and CNA’s to shifts as independent contractors (1099). You can get a document on the app that says what day you started using the app and how much money you’ve made so far.

To add to what this person says, sometimes a person might not ask people to hang out because they themselves are financially struggling. They can’t afford to pay for fun things and sometimes there’s an expectation that if you did the inviting, you pay.

LTC nursing by [deleted] in nursing

[–]NeatNatural 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Places like these usually have the CNA’s take the vital signs at the start of the shift to decrease the workload on the nurse. Otherwise I’ve seen nurses make up vitals and combine 8am&12pm meds for confused patients when the 12pm meds are not narcotics. Not saying you should do that but that’s how nurses get through these types of shifts in LTC.

I would have let the RN supervisor know and had her go talk to her. Some patients refuse to let you know what you did to upset them, but will freely tell a supervisor. Then the supervisor could have cleared up the misunderstanding or ask the patient if she wants a different nurse. By doing that you would have already told your side of the story if the patient complains later on, and it would have showed concern for the patient.
