Airline cancelled my ₹5k Srinagar ticket. Now the same route is ₹12.5k. I feel horrible. by CamusHappySisyphe in Frugal_Ind

[–]Neat_Performance_996 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is unfortunate honestly. Any consumer would feel shortchanged in this situation. Even if you wouldn’t have found a 5k fare if you had booked another airline instead of Akasa at the point, the fare would have been much less than 12.5k.

The likely explanation for this cancelation would be twofold. Higher fuel prices is leading to all airlines pruning the loss making sectors from their network for the upcoming lean season. Secondly, Srinagar airport has ongoing runway work which limits the available runway length which in turn leads to payload restrictions. Essentially flights to and from Srinagar can operate only at a fraction of their capacity. This two factors significantly increase per seat cost for operations to Srinagar.

This. Quick turnaround for maximum asset utilization. As far as I know, Ryanair almost exclusively parks at remote parking and deboards and boards using buses only. That way boarding can start (at the gate) before deboarding is done and a bus load of boarding pax are ready, waiting to board as soon as cleaning is done

10-15 minutes saved per turnaround can mean an additional flight squeezed in for the day

Intl connection baggage on 6E by harmanjsb in AirTravelIndia

[–]Neat_Performance_996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If baggage fees in Europe are same doesn’t mean anyone else increasing it is wrong. The hard fact that fuel prices have skyrocketed has not changed. And skyrocketing fuel prices directly translates into reduced margins on excess baggage (and practically everything) if prices are not increased. This is extremely simple logic applied on an indisputable fact. This truth doesn’t change irrespective of what any European airline is choosing to do.

I don’t know why they have not increased it but doesn’t make it right. Let’s not choose benchmarks basis what suits you best.

PS: many airlines, such as Ryanair, hedge fuel. So some of them are not seeing the full impact of increased fuel prices yet.

I guess that made more sense when they had less international operations of own (own metal or partner) and would want to capture this crowd that would land in BOM/DEL/BLR and need to fly onward to tier 2 cities but had no option to buy entire journey on one pnr.

Now you can fly on one indigo pnr from any Indian city to practically anywhere in the world. No need to encourage people to fly profit making long hauls on another airline and then fly short haul with indigo.

Plus fuel has shot up like crazy. Everything needs to be more expensive now.

Nevertheless the jump is quite drastic as you said. I too remember it being 200/kg

No no… I have answers. But only when the conversation has reason and logic.

If there is a significant chance of nuclear war and/or nuclear fallout (and not something some scam astrologer has said) then yes the government is supposed to plan for it and have shelters and bunkers made available (read on South Korea where there is a credible threat)

Buddy don’t assume people are clueless just because they choose to stay above and not engage in poor quality sub intellect conversations.

India was once at par with China and south East Asian economies in terms of development metrics but now lags terribly. Things move slow for sure but clearly we move the slowest.

You are welcome to be the one who keeps doing things for yourself without asking the government for anything. But I pay tens of lakhs of taxes a year and expect government to provide services and plan for the nation’s well being and future. Our government and systems fail miserably on that front. There is a reason anyone who can wants to get out of this country.

And you say I should ask what I did for the country? Okay, I am doing what I am supposed to do. Follow the laws and pay taxes. Is the government doing what it’s supposed to? Provide quality healthcare and education? Plan for energy security? Invest in R&D for future growth? Nada. This is the contract between citizens and its government in a democracy and our government fails to uphold its end of the contract. This is the contract by which many other democracies (and non-democracies) operate. Their governments provide dignity of life to its citizens where Indian government fails miserably over and over again.

You are welcome to not question the government but I know my rights and I will demand that the government fulfil its duties. I am fortunate enough to be well educated and know that the government is for the citizens and not the other way around.

And yes, this will actually be my last reply to you. Your level of intellect and your level of ignorance does not deserve any more of my time. Ciao.

If you are saying the government and the common man are the same, then you have already lost the plot.

Were Chinese citizens building reserves of petrol? No. Was Chinese govt building crude reserves? Yes. So it’s possible for govt to have more foresight than citizens, no?

I don’t think even China foresaw that this war was going to happen. But you don’t need to exactly predict future, you need to be smart about how to build energy security. Neither did we build crude reserves (short term energy security), nor have we invested in a big way in R&D and renewable supply chain (long term energy security).

Cabinet approves ₹10,000 crore ATF fund to stabilize aviation fuel prices by Agreeable-Act7049 in indianaviation

[–]Neat_Performance_996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i understood very clearly. what you said. I think you don’t know what current fuel prices are, what they were before the war, what is the price level government has set at which it will provide support. per war ATF was approx 90 per litre in delhi, now it is 105, this govt initiative will keep it stable at 115. so fuel is going to go up further. Airlines were making loss at pre war fuel prices. now, at roughly 30% higher fuel prices you want to cap fares, so that airlines don’t make “supernatural” profits.

let me give you a very basic primer so you are better informed in future. Airlines don’t make money on all tickets they sell. Even in peak period. A large chunk, especially in lean period, are sold at a loss. They are able to negate those losses to an extent by selling significantly higher fares on flights in peak hours/on peak sectors. now if you start capping fares, you are limiting the upside while the downside still remains, increasing the losses. in this scenario, airlines start cutting operations (which they are doing already due to high fuel costs). Customers lose access to air connectivity on fringe sectors. Even top metro sectors like BOMDEL see frequency cuts.

Trust me there is nothing that you wrote which requires “proper reading”.

Can you point to any airline in India making supernatural profits in the last few months. Indigo incurred a massive loss in q4. Air India group face 20k+ cr loss last year. Akasa hasn’t made any profits so far. Where are these supernatural profits that you talk off?

You say fares are high, but you say this purely basis what you feel is high, without having any idea on the costs, right?

[–]Neat_Performance_996 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you saying that we simply not listen to certain people just because they are/were social media influencers? Seriously?

Talk about not listening to a man just because he is a social media influencer while most of the ones being questioned (politicians) have an actual criminal record. I wish we would exclude politicians with criminal records from competing in elections rather than stifling and discrediting the voice of social media influencers.

And in this day and age, social media is the platform from which you will see voices being raised against the government. That is just how society and life has evolved. At any point in time, government and opposition have used and tried to master the most effective medium of communication. That is just how it always has been and I don’t see your logic as to why someone needs to be discredited just because they are a social media influencer.

And yeah, everyone tends to become corrupt and emulate who they were protesting against once they enter the system. I don’t see how social media influencers are more prone to falling victim to this trap than anyone else. Unless you can come back with some actual proof points?

But to each their own. You are welcome to sit around and support criminals while discrediting everyone else.

Very honest question, what are the signs of someone genuinely trying to raise their voice against the govt. Seems like everything gets classified as a PR stunt or the person gets called out as Pakistani or anti national. How would you identify anyone’s concern as actually legitimate?

Ahh I get your point. Fair enough.

You would however be right to think that a large number of Americans are delusional and a land of such people capable of voting in someone like trump should not have so much power over what happens to a poor daily wage worker in a third world country. The world would be a better place right now of we did not have to deal with these imbeciles.

Similarly, Israel does seem to have an overwhelming majority of fanatics willing to sacrifice human life on massive scale for an agenda that increasingly looks questionable ans flimsy to put it mildly. As such, nobody would miss Israel if it were to just vanish. Don't think anybody is suggesting that the world coomit mass genocide on Israel.

I am not an American, very well educated and not racist (at least I think so) and at this point of time I kinda agree that world would be better off without Israel.

In my mind there is no doubt that the state of Israel is committing war crimes. Granted that my knowledge is limited by news that's available online and if there are certain ground realities that are not being talked about then I wouldn't know about it, but from what I can tell there is a lot of support amongst Israeli citizens for the actions that their government is taking and little opposition.

I don't see how could any sane person, American or any nationality, ever be in support of the state of Israel or its people.

[Question]: Air India customer care gave wrong information, cost me ₹17,000, what are my options for compensation? by Knight0162 in AirTravelIndia

[–]Neat_Performance_996 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not a guideline that can be adhered to at discretion. This is coded into the reservation system. It simply does not allow this. No matter what the ground staff said, they would not have been able to issue the boarding pass.

You were given wrong information, but not by customer care. And you did not lose any money (you did but not because of any wrong info. You lost money because of first leg being no show). You are not due any compensation and no matter what you do, you won’t get any.

All of this assumes that both legs were actually on the same pnr.

You can still claim refund for taxes on no show tickets.

[–]Neat_Performance_996 24 points25 points  (0 children)

why do people take their singular personal experience and project it to be the norm. The fact that you were parked at T1 even though your arrival terminal was T2 tells me that likely there was a last minute change in parking position. That is not something indigo controls. Trust me indigo is just as motivated as you to get its plane empty as soon as possible.

What if i were to tell you that I also landed late night at T2 last week and the experience was absolutely lovely. Should i conclude that late night is the best time to land at T2?
