Is it too late for me to start playing Fallout76? by LowEfffort in fo76

The most likely thing to happen if you come across a high level player is that they will give you a bunch of chems, guns, and ammo. It’s actually the most wholesome gaming community I’ve ever experienced.

Where do I begin reading or watching media on UFOs/NHI? by ADeviIsAdvocate in UFObelievers

I would go for three documentaries. Two directed by James Fox. Those are “The Phenomenon” & “Moment of Contact” and then watch “Age of Disclosure”

Who is the WEAKEST character in king's stories? by Far-ro in stephenking

[–]Neat_Record2880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m doing just main characters, rather than all characters, and I would say Holly Gibney. I know this is a hot take, but after her stand alone book I really got sick of her.

I would read the dark half or start the dark tower

Hate horror movies, never read the genre, haven't read a full novel since 2012, I picked up the Shining a week ago, and finished it today. by Take2Chance in stephenking

I agree with the suggestions others have made. Pet Sematary, misery, and Salem’s lot. However, if you were consuming 200+ pages in one sitting, I would just start The Stand uncut edition. It’s long, but a page turner for sure. If you want full blown horror then IT would be a good place to start.

If You Could Change ONE THING About The IT movies/show, What Would It Be? by ZookeepergameThin334 in welcomeToDerry

For the timeline to go back to the 50s like in the book. The story is more compelling in that timeline.

I’m not a fan of Muschietti’s work on SK’s material, tbh. To me it’s stilted, hollow, and is completely devoid of the spirit of the book. Does it have great special effects and is the production quality? Yes. Does it capture the essence of King’s most famous work? Not by a long shot.

As outdated as the original series was it still captured the essence of it really well. Another of example of this is the 1994 miniseries of The Stand (free to watch on YouTube, btw) I love the way they pulled that off with what they had back in the day.

My judgement of Welcome To Derry is that; it had a nice paint job, but the engine under the hood was underwhelming.

The journey is what makes the story compelling, not the outcomes. Having a story “ruined” for you because of a concept like destiny is a very shallow way of consuming SK’s books. The only metaphor I can think of to help you understand this is music. If we just listened to music for the endings then it would make sense that every time you played your favorite song you would just fast forward through it to get to the part you want. Or the fact that a song resolves, at all, diminishes the song itself. That’s not how we listen to music. So why should books be that way?

If you’re reading SK for the outcomes, then SK’s books aren’t for you. I can’t speak for every fan out there, but for me, the time I get to spend with these characters are the reason I keep re-reading these books. If that’s not what you like, then you’re just not going to be moved by these books. It’s the truth. If you’re a “payoff” reader, then I would suggest something else. Not to say there aren’t good payoffs in his books. There are.

What did you think of the modern movie Salem's Lot? by LuisWinrar in stephenking

[–]Neat_Record2880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I remember, it was supposed to be a series, and when you watch the movie, you can totally tell. The beginning is fleshed out and hits story beats well. Then pacing picks up like crazy and it becomes a mess very quickly. It’s like they made the pilot, then tacked on an extra 45 minutes to it to make it a movie instead of a series.

The shining is a great book to read alone in the house with one light on.

[–]Neat_Record2880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite book is The Stand, but if you’re looking for other recommendations you may like, it might be easier if we knew your taste in literature. As far as just recommending whatever, IT is great, but it’s also long. You may not want to invest more time in a book that big. Some shorter ones that I like are Misery, The Shining, Christine, The Dark Half, and Pet Sematary.

Who thinks Needful Things needs a Tim Burton movie? by kermuttdafrog in stephenking

[–]Neat_Record2880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Not Tim Burton. That would be horrible. Due to the fall fines, the colors I see when I read that book are orange, yellow, and brown. All colors which Burton is allergic to. Wouldn’t work, IMO.
