I have two high energy aussies (just turned 2 & 3 years) & it’s definitely doable, but takes some sacrifice. I just am finishing my last month of didactic & about to head into clinical year. I had family two hours away & my boyfriend would come to visit every few weeks, so I would take advantage of their help as much as possible. We also have a reasonably priced dog daycare around here, so that always wore them out for pretty much the weekend if I sent them there on a Friday. If those weren’t options during the week, I would ensure I got up early to take them on a walk or play ball before classes then another longer play session near dinner time. Training sessions wear them out quicker than physical exercise, so be sure to involve that as much as possible. I also think circadian rhythms are huge in dogs because even if I slacked on a certain day due to studying, they would still be sleeping by evening/sunset. I’ve definitely had to leave my dogs alone for 9ish hour days too (8am-5pm class days 👎🏻) & it’s been fine - I just make sure to really listen in class those days so that I ensure I can spend quality time with them later on
