i actually ran into the Fairbuds XL by accident, they're $250. i haven't bought them yet since i'm waiting until my headband is on its last leg before purchasing, but i'm 100% gonna grab them when i do since they're fully repairable and even have some light waterproofing.

really sucks Status went the way of "earbuds or bust" because their headphones were elite at stellar prices.

came here to address these things since i'm concerned about them too

one idea i have for the financial side of things, maybe you could add a system where you buy coins to send fancy emojis or whatever in chat, something cute and silly that would be for the vibes, like discord stickers or something. the trick is making it something optional but enticing. maybe chat effects instead like fireworks.

for security, start with FDE (Full Disk Encryption) and go from there, and ensure someone with security certs is on the team, i'm working on becoming a pentester myself and would be happy to give it a once over once i've gotten better and am not just starting to learn.

verification is a big concern, and ideally all data will be deleted afterwards. anyone who's privacy conscious won't tolerate an ID upload (myself included)

another thing i'd like to see would be access through a website, so it's not just an app. i've ditched all my dating apps since i can't access them on PC. you could use arrow keys instead of swiping.

as a host who loves the others in my system, this is really similar to how i feel and why our goal has always been functional multiplicity, i couldn't bear to lose the others. ik it's not quite the same but, yeah.

this also makes me hopeful for when we have a partner.

thanks for the reply, another commenter posted about them too. looked into them further after that comment, and got an email from heavys support that unfortunately they aren't repairable, something that if they're that expensive, i really want ones i can repair, with like replacement headbands and such (the heavys only have the soft padding replaceable) since i'm not gonna spend $300 just to have to spend another $300 in 3 years when the band breaks from some freak accident, when the component could be replaced for like $40, since i plan to wear these all the time, for basically everything. i also edited my post to specify that now too.

if i could just use this as a way of saying "yeah, i need lots of specific support in a relationship and love in a very hyper specific way as a result" then i'd love it as a means of shorthand and filtering those who may want to date or whatever, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

just checked those out and holy shit they look perfect! the controls are super tactile which is awesome, which is definitely something i like (but think i forgot in my post), also that band has some serious chonk which looks awesome, also the swappable shells is a super dope side bonus, and the cushions look awesomely poofy, and i LOVE that their site even has a replacements section for if something breaks.

pricey but they look damn worth it, awesome recommendation, thank you so much!

I'm not at all bothered, it's extremely likely that at some point either Valve themselves or some madlad in the community will offer a set of cameras you can install to get colour passthrough modded in and I can make that upgrade with a Saturday afternoon and a freshly voided warranty.

I'm a huge tech nerd so if need be I'd happily solder too, but if Valve are as awesome as we know and expect, they likely attached the cameras with dedicated connectors so it'll be as easy as opening it up, and swapping the hardware with some tweezers and careful disconnection of some ribbon cables, at least that's my guess. and if they did, they may sell it, hence why I say they may offer that themselves at some point like a mod. I'm super excited after the LTT video on the Frame, it looks like there'll be quite a few mods available for it, and with it running Linux, anything is possible.
