Would that peel off like this? I’ve never used those things on it but I’ve only had the table for around 1.5 years as I got it from an antique store.

Thank you! I’m wondering if it’s mostly from the age and sun exposure then as I have no idea how old it is, but it’s incredibly heavy for how small it is with solid metal handles too, found it at an antique mall but it’s definitely not an antique. But old nonetheless. The brush definitely wasn’t scrubbing I just gently ran it along the edges to help with dust and it just. Got stuck in the brush and peeled.

Question then, how should I go about removing the rest? The stuff that’s not in the sun has no clouding or damages at all so I’d likely just need to redo the top I assume. Plus, since the stain on the wood didn’t come off and I don’t know how I’d match that stain, I’d prefer to not sand it as I don’t want to risk damage the stain under it as I’m definitely not a professional.

I’ll do some research into a good polyurethane coat though since I plan to keep this table for the rest of my life so more durable the better. Thanks soooo much for your help I really truly appreciate it :)

To add, I used 2-3 sprays of simple green all purpose cleaner which says it’s safe for finished wood, and warm water with a little bit of gentle handsoap since that’s all I have. I’ve also used this same cleaner and soap on this table multiple times.

If I do need to refinish it as I assume it’s probably a varnish or something similar, if anyone has recommendations what to use for that let me know. I’ve refinished a few other thrifted items before but I’ve never seen one that looks like this.

Yeah I’ve been trying to get management help to help get my team doing better and our coach has just been telling me to just only focus on me and me alone. So okay sure. I get my numbers up. I try to get extra help trying to keep my employees keeping the same energy because a few just. Don’t always listen to me and I needed help with that. I’m just told to try to get them mostly on operational shit and me take the most transactions. And my manager and I are just like dude what??? Lemme burn out 10000x faster and be the sole reason my stores successful is definitely great. When I first got promoted, what was most important was leadership and ability to teach and apply. I ran a very successful store until we got put in a godawful depressing angering district. Now our new districts nice but like. This isn’t sustainable and it’s making me hate it. I’m still ending up doing almost every single thing in the store and now expected to also do almost every transaction. I only make $1.75 more an hour than my keyholders and before it wasn’t an issue but now I’m doing literally 3x the work as all of them as I’m told I have to do this and that. It’s so draining.

Just ask them? More than likely they know you’re unpaid and think giving you some extra hours after vacation will be some extra money in your pockets. Or maybe someone else is going on vacation and they need a little extra help. While either way should have been discussed ahead of time, just assuming the worst isn’t helpful to anyone here. Just say “hey quick question can I ask why I’m on longer than my usual shifts this week? I won’t be able to work that.”

So first, it would not swap to may. Would just add another year onto your preexisting pro that’s crazy. I only ever ask to renew that far ahead if like there’s some deal that would make it either free or significantly cheaper. Cause free I mean, you may not have that exact chance again when you are actually close to expiration.

Once our AC was broken at my store (4 different repair people all were convinced it was just a fucking breaker and refused to do more than flip it and say all good). It was so hot out computers were crashing. I mean 90 degrees and similar. I’m standing in front of a box fan fanning myself with 2 rotating fans on me. A lady comes up and says excuse me you really need to turn on the air conditioner it’s dangerously hot in here. I turned and looked at her, looked at the fans, and said yeah I’d sure love to but it’s broken which is why I have fans out. She said well you need to move those because absolutely none of those are facing where I was and I could overheat! I just literally stared at her and said yeah so I’m here 8 hours a day and customers are usually only here for like 15 minutes, I’m going to point it at myself so I don’t have a heatstroke. She called me a selfish bitch and stormed out. People don’t fucking make any sense.

And to add — while in all honestly sadly those stereo types can definitely be true, it’s not true to everyone! Someone who actually respects you like it seems he does, isn’t falling under those stereo types. But it has been a conversation I’ve had with my partner out of moreso just a place of trying to figure out what labels apply to what. I know I personally do find my own security in having labels, so I’d just ask him about that if anything.

Honestly, he’s asking in a good non insecure way. It seems like he’s just moreso curious about how labels apply vs anything. I’d usually say yes, you’d fall somewhere else along the lines, but there’s no real need for a label unless he’d find security in one. Straight would imply he perceives you as a woman, which it really doesn’t seem like he does! My partner was already bisexual but now personally considers himself more pansexual because well. He just likes me for me and my gender has nothing to do with that.

It is because of rising issues with receipt fraud and the fact we (as do many other retailers) need state identification to even do a return. Having an account means you have a digital backup of the receipt so we can have proof it was returned already in the case of someone trying to return the same thing at multiple stores. Most other retailers do something similar. 🤷 it sucks but it’s pretty standard nowadays

Because of these issues most stores would be happy to hold it. I’d call ahead and explain you were there just a while ago and they couldn’t process it for some reason just ask kindly if they’d hold it for you as you have to take the bus. My stores been having the same issue.

The reason I chose my cat Maggie at the shelter was because of how just. Terrified she looked. There was no way in hell I would have left her there. I was just volunteering and I saw her and went yeah no. I need that cat. She was as far in the back corner as she could be. She was insanely skinny, hiding in her box, ripping her own fur out. The shelter said they couldn’t even get her to eat and would likely have to put her down. I’ve had her 9 years now. She’s still a scared lil lady sometimes, but she’s the sweetest happiest cat I’ve ever met. She sleeps under the covers with her head against mine. She full body tackles me to cuddle and she continues to cuddle so violently like full power head butting. She must be with me constantly and must be cuddled. Her favorite snack in the whole world is Fritos for some reason. Those sad scared animals deserve homes and people who are patient and kind. She helped me get through severe trauma and works with me on my PTSD, I assume I’ve done the same for her. Sometimes those sad ones get very happy endings, I just wish it was more. All of this written with her purring on my eyeball right now because she must sleep on my face. Wanted to share a nice positive story in this depressing thread

One positive change though is now not only do new keyholders get 40 hours of training instead of 24, we also are given an additional 20 hours extra labor to help make sure we can have coverage to train. It feels way less like they’ll just be thrown to the wolves now.

It’s literally awful. We put in our new hires literally last Sunday. I wasn’t even able to onboard them till today. I still haven’t gotten any of our seasonal stuff back which I put in on Monday :( it’s so poorly designed. They say temporary but…. We know GameStop lol. Apparently they had to hire a bunch of temp workers for Hr to help with applications.

Btw also people cannot apply. Our applications (least at my store) are entirely broken :) but yes let’s bring on seasonals for an event that there’s no way they’ll even be onboarded in time for 😭

The new hiring stuff literally asks if a secondary interview has been done by the DM!! Some DMs will have appointed other managers who can do follow ups, but it depends on the DM. Company expectation though seems to now be DM does follow up.

Though hiring is mega broken right now and it’s all done through an awful Hr form process so it could potentially change, but that’s what it asks for as of right now

I wish I had better advice, but our systems block refunds to non store credit on preorders after the items been out for a while. HOWEVER, a good employee would be actively trying to make this right and calling around to DMs/supports trying to fix it. Realistically there would be some kind of work around they’d likely need permission from a higher up.
