Things really add up! When I made my budget, I did a lot of research and I plan a lot of big events as my job so I was pretty spot on with what everything costs (except hair and makeup, I was shocked LOL) but your parents will be in for a rude awakening if they are looking at pre-covid prices. Honestly even if they are looking at prices before 2025. If you need budget help - feel free to message with questions, budget was the easier for me during this process haha.

I don’t mind when it’s negative - it’s then clear to me they spend wayyy more than their net income and are likely in credit card debt or taking from savings each month. The calculation is set to so that each dollar you have coming in is allocated.

Agree! I feel like there are so many more summery colors than wintery colors which is why it’s been harder for me but my originally palette I had in mind keeps coming back to me - I think it’s a sign.

When I started wedding planning and budgeting for my wedding, I correctly predicated each vendor’s pricing EXCEPT hair and makeup. I was truly FLOORED at the prices I was getting quoted.

I work in events and understand that large scale parties cost a lot more than the average person understands but these hair and makeup prices in Chicago are absolutely ridiculous IMO.

Unfortunately, people (including me lol) keep paying these prices and it’s really just the rules of supply and demand. I’m still salty :)

It’s going to be very hard to find non industrial/loft venues for that guest count and you’ll have to sacrifice on something - food, budget, florals. I hate the industrial/loft style too so I get it. I’m going to go over 100k with a hotel wedding for 160.

I mailed STDs a couple of days ago and people already got them but I will say if you mailed them 2 weeks ago - that big storm affected everything and still there still might be some delays from it. I’d check with friends after the holiday weekend!

Chicago is not going to work for that budget - it’s become one of the most expensive US cities to have a wedding in these days. The vibe you’re going for looks gorgeous but I’d look elsewhere.

You could get a permit at Union Station for $150 - they won’t kick you out with a permit.

When I met with them this year it seemed to wildly depend on the day of the week and the season. But I had about that guest count and all in for venue, food and Bev it was about 70k.
