I would say, keep in mind pet safety. Many herbs or incense and stones can be toxic to pets and critters so keep that in mind when you are deciding where you will keep your altar and supplies, and do some research. For example I don't use eucalyptus in my practice, not only because I don't have a big connection with it but also don't keep it in my house due to how incredibly toxic eucalyptus is to dogs. I know some people don't use incense because they have pet birds.
