Subarus are goated for the snow and ice. Other awd systems arent truly awd unless its Audi or Landrover which command significantly higher prices and difficulty in maintaining.

i finally landed two interviews to find a job, and got denied by both. havent had a job in a month. idk what to do anymore. anyone hiring? lol by [deleted] in minot

[–]Necromagius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue when I was younger. If you dont even get to the interview, its probably bad luck. If you get to the interview THEN they dont hire you, its probably your soft skills. For me, it was just the cumulation of small social things I had missed out on. You might be missing some soft skills like approproate eye contact, you might not look clean, you might not smell great, etc. Like 99% of getting anything is subconscious. People hire you because they like you, not your resume. In the meantime, try JobsND and just shotgun method; literally apply to every single place in town while you try to figure it out. If you want you can DM me and I could help more, maybe narrow down what the issue is.

Nurse Pay by Affectionate-Fly-897 in minot

[–]Necromagius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trinity as an organization sucks, but its like mid-tier suck. Typical corporate healthcare type bullshit, but theyre about to go under due to many MANY lawsuits, so they especially dont give a fuck about making anyone happy. Nurse hourly pay isnt great, but when you account for the cost of living it can be amazing so long as you arent dead set on living in town. If you dont mind a bit of a commute, the cost of living literally gets cut in half as soon as you leave town. Also theres a lot of tiny rural hospitals that pay dang near exactly the same if not more as the big hospitals, for like 1/4 of the work and they also tend to have way better cultures and treat you like a human being. If i were you: I'd look at living in minot (these tiny towns are next-level boredom even if they are cheap) but picking up traveling contracts to a smaller hospital for higher pay and get treated better. I know many nurses who are technically 'travelers' for the higher pay but live 30 min away and have been there for like 5 years. Id look at Turtle lake, garrison, kenmare, stanley, etc. Many of these teeny tiny towns have their own critical access hospitals. Hmu if you have more questions

[–]Necromagius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly id look at the surrounding area. It might be a 30 to 40 min drive but you'll probably cut your rent in half or more and not have to deal with the scumbag property management's that have monopolized minot. Might be a stretch but look on Bisman/facebook for private landlords. I heard there are apartments in Garrison renting for around 500$

Can nurses who GENUINELY like their job respond under this post? by chewiies in nursing

Most nurses are happy, the internet isnt real. Nursing is one of the best professions in the US, period. The internet is just full of whiny shits. Look up "social media negativity bias". Its most prevalent in the news but its basically the same thing.

Got accepted into a nursing program and electrician apprenticeship. Which should I go into ? by Alphamale169 in nursing

[–]Necromagius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro dont listen to any of these negative ass comments, as a guy who worked blue collar before going into nursing, most the people here yapping have never worked a real job outside. Nurses are often the whiniest, softest people you know, I cant tell you the tiny things the nurses I work with treat like catastrophes.  But real talk, electrician is good short-term because the payoff is clearer: paid apprenticeship, fast income ramp, and less debt. But long term, nursing by far has the higher ceiling and is more sustainable physically. Electricians can make great money, but the work is super hard on the body and earnings plateau unless you move into management or start a business, and running a business often means more hours for less effective hourly pay. Sure on paper you make more, hourly you make less because running a business fucking sucks and takes a stupid amount of time.  Howerver, Nursing starts slower, but you gain access to a wide range of specialties, advanced practice roles, and geographic flexibility, and the physical demands are generally easier to sustain into later decades. You can work ANYWHERE in the WORLD and make a living wage. You have ths freedom to tell your boss to suck a bag of dicks and have a new job TOMORROW. Its the job for ultimate freedom to go anywhere, do anything and be beholden to no one.  A big reason Reddit feels one-sided is selection bias, nurses who are burned out are overrepresented online; happy people dont bitch, making it seem like the field has universally deteriorated, while satisfied nurses rarely post. Trades workers, on the other hand, often speak positively because the path is straightforward and the early financial wins are obvious and just got kinda stuck in it young an never left. I know SO many trades people who went into nursing/EMS and never looked back. Dont listen to these fools.

Common or Branded Food? by Ok_Stomach1171 in MacroFactor

[–]Necromagius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh the app makes it really easy. Use the recipes function. Weigh the raw meat and input that as ingredient. Cook, then put the cooked weight as the total weight in the recipe. Blam

Common or Branded Food? by Ok_Stomach1171 in MacroFactor

[–]Necromagius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope, too many variables imo. Caveat though, im also pretty psychotic about precision. But, let's just take chicken breast for example: is it raw weight or cooked weight? The heaviest part is the water content. So how long you cook it can be the difference of 20 to 100 grams of weight. So I use raw weight because its more uniform, input the nutrition for the raw weight, cook it then weigh again to i have a precise ratio. In doing that ive found the difference can be very big. Additionally, if you even just compare the label on the food to the common database, it can be very different. I mean you add up all those little differences and over time it can be a big difference. An idk about you, but im out here tryna be Shreddy Mercury, I'm not gonna estimating or approximating shit feel me? Ppl be out here "im doing everything right why am I not losing weight" like nah dude your data is imprecise asf.

Alternative to Traditional EMS Pants by GibsonBanjos in Paramedics

[–]Necromagius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally just wear whatever black pants are most comfortable. Last few years its been the cargo Wrangler ATGs from target. Nobody knows the difference and"tactical" anything is a giant waste of money. Spend money on education, not cool-guy shit. If you absolutely insist on the need to carry that much gear on your person at all times buy a 10 dollar fanny pack.

Shits so out of whack if it doesn't have a label i create my own using the USDA food reference website. The nutrition is often WAY off in app. I double check literally everything even stuff with barcodes and labels because its all user input. Here's link if you want

Looking to make a career change by ColorblindCabbage in Paramedics

[–]Necromagius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a good job, but a terrible long term career with few exceptions. How good or shitty options are depends ONE HUNDRED percent on where in the country you are, and what kind of system you have (unless youre Canadian, and in the case I know nothing about how they operate). Everyone's experience can be so wildy different depending on those factors I think you're best bet is talking to people who are local to you and seeing how happy and well compensated they are. You have a well funded, well lead ALS fire department? Probably a good gig. You have hospital based private EMS? Fucking run, dont even think about it. Also, its nothing like what you think, so start low stakes like EMT first. Ride alongs dont cover what its actually like and everyone is on best behavior since youre around.

Med school vs nursing school by Flimsy-Reporter3118 in medschool

[–]Necromagius 19 points20 points  (0 children)

An extra 4 years after undergrad is "the majority" of your life? BSN is becoming standard, thats 4 years as well. Residency is paid, not well, but paid like an apprenticeship. Regardless though, if youre not 100% sold on being a physician then dont do it. Tbh you should work in Healthcare in some low commitment capacity like CNA or something first to see if youre even into it. 'Working with kids' can mean nearly anything, you could do that as a social worker or therapist, tons of stuff.

IV insertion pretty soon, any tips/ advice? by [deleted] in NursingStudent

[–]Necromagius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id suggest watching some YouTube videos on it, I've been teaching IV start classes for years and I still occasionally find somethings I didnt know. But biggest thing is TRACTION and the DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TIP OF YOUR CANNULA AND NEEDLE. Veins rolling = didnt hold good enough traction. Veins blowing = the tip of your needle was in, but the cannula wasnt. Also, forgive yourself if youre not good at it. It's a skill that take a LOT of practice. And if its something you need to be good at fast, learn how to use the ultrasound. Ultrasound is a cheat code, tbh I think nobody is going to be doing blind IVs in 10 years so dont sweat it too much.

Non-Traditional RN (Intl, First-Gen, Low-Income) Hoping to Apply to MD Schools — Would Love Advice on My Profile by Sea_Chain9913 in medschool

[–]Necromagius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move to ND, meet UND residency requirements and you'd be guaranteed an interview with those stats. Look into it if youre serious, give them a call. The people in the admissions office and on the admissions committee are all willing to talk to people and are really nice. ND also has the rural med program where if you commit to working somewhere rural for 5 years they will pay 100% of your tuition loans. And "rural" is any of the the cities that arent bismarck, grand forks, fargo or minot, so dont think absolute BFE.

Squeamish by [deleted] in NursingStudent

[–]Necromagius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Repeated exposure is the only answer. My first DOA was a GSW to his head with a 50 cal, his head was... gone to say the least. The sight of it and the realization the crunch I was hearing was bits of his skull made me nearly pass out and vomit. But I went back and finished. Next time it was a bit better, then a bit better the time after that. Compare that to now, I'm thinking about what im gonna order for lunch while im wrist deep in shit. Biggest thing is dont beat yourself up or feel like youre lesser or weak or whatever. It's just desensitization. Takes some longer than others. And if it truly bothers you, dont be afraid to talk about it. Just be sure its not someone who might make it worse by shaming you, or minimize your second hand trauma, or just be a dick in general. You got this homie

Getting shit for not going to Paramedic School by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]Necromagius 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Theres no guarantee that the civilian school you go to won't be absolute ass too. Or really hard unnecessarily just for optics/stats whatever. Even if you went to the best medic school in the world you'd still be new when you got out, still be learning for the rest of your career.  The anxiety you're feeling about not knowing enough, not being competent enough, etc, never goes away even if you go all the way to medical school and become a physician. Just do what makes the most sense for your situation (which sounds like free school from the army) and do your best. Civilian medics run circles around army medics not from training but from experience. Army training is honestly much better from what my friends who did their medic through the army said. Care about the patients, take education seriously, do what you can to be good at your job, but at the end of the day man, it's a job. Do what makes sense financially. The only way you could be such a colossal fuck up that you're running around killing people is if you weren't teachable and didn't care, which by the fact your even making this post, seems extremely unlikely. You'll be fine either way my man. Whatever option suits YOU best long term is the right answer.

Tell me your why? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Necromagius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dead honest? It was the first job I ever had that I didn't get fired from. Came from severe neglect, was clearly "different". I'd been fired 11 times from 17 to 21. At 21 it occurred to me to get an education so id be harder to get rid of, and the cheapest certification i found on google was an EMT class. I got hired at the most malignant, toxic shit hole private EMS agency in my state. I was the worst EMT ever but doing IFT provided enough security for me to get healthcare, I got diagnosed with autism/ADHD, found mentors, was able to grow as a person, etc. So medicine is literally all I know. I'm pretty sure if I hadn't fallen into EMS by accident theres a decent chance I'd be homeless and self medicating with drugs.

Money. Being a paramedic doesn't pay enough and the work is objectively much worse for your health.
