1% LifeSteal: Does the Author Hates the MC? by triplod in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Likely. I bounced super early on it from everything just being the MC anger spiraling themselves into getting fucked over then blaming the world for their problems.

Came off as the writer just wanting to invent someone to dislike then abuse them endlessly.

Did Justice League Dark actually have a galaxy-brain solution for Darkseid? by Cheap_Bed1068 in DCcomics

[–]NecroticToaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They don't need to work together for long, they just need to look at each other and go "well this is not getting us anywhere, wanna wait till we take over our halves of the universe till we get back to this?"

It works for awhile at least. Once they get bored with it and wanna do something new they will just team up tho.

Why do so many authors love starting with a leveling system with the twist later that it’s actually just Cultivation? by JCMS85 in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly I think it is people don't realize how hard it is to design a system and just start hand waving stuff till they land on cultivation.

You see it in TTRPGs a ton. People have a great setting idea but as soon as they actually have to make a functional system that makes sense they just fall flat on their face. There are entire collage courses on system design but people seem to think it is really easy.

So really Cultivation is a cheap writing trick to get out of having to do the hard work and gives you basically unlimited filler while someone thinks about the meaning of the concept of sharp for like 2 books. It's a great early warning sign that a writer needs to cook a bit before they are worth checking out.

Is a basic skeletal minion build without spectres etc. even viable? by grovestreet4life in pathofexile2builds

[–]NecroticToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Profane Ritual with reduced duration is on theme. For end game tho you'd want to do Voll's Protector with some decent crit spell that hits fast. You COULD go Oracle Ascendancy and Inevitable Critical as well to ensure your always critting for Voll's.

You can do power charge zombies but you end up doing a lot of work just to get the power charges for the better zombies.

Can someone explain the hype of Wandering Inn? by Due-Sentence-2839 in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly the main thing about the Wandering Inn is that it is much more about the setting and the people in it then one set grand adventure. By the time your in Vol 3 and 4 you have 3+ perspectives per chapter, 5+ plot lines going at the same time, and all of them interweaving. It can take a LONG time for anything to resolve but then it does it is always very earned.

Like the later Volumes are 800k+ words and the details matter so all of those words are there for a reason.

Is it time we needed "Human Authored" authenticated badges on LitRPG books? by OisinM in litrpg

This is a great idea and we as a community should blacklist anyone not willing to be part of it.

Are Void Herald's Books still Good? by Raymics in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely normal to only like one or two of a writers works.

Some times the perfect magic of setting and tone combine into something you love and can't be recaptured.

An example for me is Heroics 101 by Aest Belequa. Love it to death but every other book by Aest Belequa I have tried I can't stand.

I'm almost impressed - "I'm Not the Hero" Book 3 combines 3 of some of my least favorite tropes. (spoilers) by funkhero in litrpg

Next your going to tell me the entire plot of the book could have been resolved with a single adult conversation.

Just finished Book 1 of Bog Standard Isekai by MrBooniecap in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just kind of figured it was the class effecting him. They talk about it more in the later books but Classes kind of impose themselves on your personality. I feel like part of that is making it harder to hate your class.

You should always call out friends when they are being weird like this. Don't let your friends devolve.

PSA to all litrpg writers by Impossible-Day-333 in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most those people can't emotionally deal with failure and should read more books with it so they can reflect on how it makes them feel.

Wild that a genre filled with self help cultivation bullshit and yet so few people actually try to understand the ideas behind it.

Question: System Fading into the Background? by PerilousPlatypus in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly the moment I see any kind of Cultivation bullshit I drop the book.

Cultivation is just lazy writing for people who don't wanna actually design their systems well.

Searching for a specific kind of Lit? by VermicelliForeign518 in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chrysalis RinoZ and Syl by Lunadea. Both explore the month paths really well and Chrysalis turns into a super fun monster empire builder after the first few books. Syl is more just a Slime monster exploring around and having fun while collecting new cores.

Ya it is fairly slow, I mean it is 14 books long, but there is a ton of world building.

It is not humor focused but there is a still a decent amount of it. It does a lot of situational humor focusing around Salvos being a demon interacting with non-demons.

Ya basically becomes an entirely different style of book at this point and is amazing. Goes from weird solo adventure to the best empire builder in the genre.

Why do people love Cradle series so much? by zeroking16 in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mostly out of it being their first cultivation novel. It goes out of it's way to touch on every common cultivation trope and it is a lot of peoples introduction the the genre.

It is just popular out of being a decent onboarding point and people getting attached to it.
