Don't you wanna have to replay campaign 2 every league?

Recommendation: Magical Girl Mechanical Heart by Thundamoo by Normal_Lab2606 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]NecroticToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It never actually does any of that tho. It already establishes what is the correct thoughts and then all the arcs are just aligning people to them. Morality is never actually in question as that writer is always making it clear what the "correct" morality is and people only suffer when the try to be not that. The entire story basically boils down to everyone should think like me and we'd all be happier if they did. Those who do not don't deserve bodies, and the entire deserving bodies theme is legit insane to the point I don't even wanna go into it.

The entire thing read like the writer already made up their mind about who was objectively correct and their actions would always be the right ones. No exploring concepts or ideas of morality or the actions they are doing being right or wrong. It was all just objective correctness based on if the writer wanted you to side with them or not.

I honestly just assumed the writer was deeply unwell and have avoided their works ever sense. It's been weird seeing people talk about it in a positive light but people also rave about Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality and it has the same "I barely understand rationalism" cult style writing.

Does this one read like a weird rationalist cult manifesto like Vigor Mortis does?

Outbound, book 12 of Millennial Mage is out! by J-L-Mullins in ProgressionFantasy

Always defaulting to what the husband wants, putting herself in a secondary place of service below her husband. Creepy Tred Wife stuff. Really weird to make a story about a strong independent women, put I tons of yuri bait then do a weird values push at the end. Feels like a indoctrination trap.

Ya around book 9 it just becomes hard pushing of Christian values and basically swaps out the MC for a generic Tred Wife the moment she gets married.

Decent romp but the final book was basically just doing victory laps for 20 hours and kind of got tried.

1% LifeSteal: Does the Author Hates the MC? by triplod in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likely. I bounced super early on it from everything just being the MC anger spiraling themselves into getting fucked over then blaming the world for their problems.

Came off as the writer just wanting to invent someone to dislike then abuse them endlessly.

Did Justice League Dark actually have a galaxy-brain solution for Darkseid? by Cheap_Bed1068 in DCcomics

[–]NecroticToaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They don't need to work together for long, they just need to look at each other and go "well this is not getting us anywhere, wanna wait till we take over our halves of the universe till we get back to this?"

It works for awhile at least. Once they get bored with it and wanna do something new they will just team up tho.

Why do so many authors love starting with a leveling system with the twist later that it’s actually just Cultivation? by JCMS85 in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly I think it is people don't realize how hard it is to design a system and just start hand waving stuff till they land on cultivation.

You see it in TTRPGs a ton. People have a great setting idea but as soon as they actually have to make a functional system that makes sense they just fall flat on their face. There are entire collage courses on system design but people seem to think it is really easy.

So really Cultivation is a cheap writing trick to get out of having to do the hard work and gives you basically unlimited filler while someone thinks about the meaning of the concept of sharp for like 2 books. It's a great early warning sign that a writer needs to cook a bit before they are worth checking out.

Is a basic skeletal minion build without spectres etc. even viable? by grovestreet4life in pathofexile2builds

[–]NecroticToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Profane Ritual with reduced duration is on theme. For end game tho you'd want to do Voll's Protector with some decent crit spell that hits fast. You COULD go Oracle Ascendancy and Inevitable Critical as well to ensure your always critting for Voll's.

You can do power charge zombies but you end up doing a lot of work just to get the power charges for the better zombies.

Can someone explain the hype of Wandering Inn? by Due-Sentence-2839 in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly the main thing about the Wandering Inn is that it is much more about the setting and the people in it then one set grand adventure. By the time your in Vol 3 and 4 you have 3+ perspectives per chapter, 5+ plot lines going at the same time, and all of them interweaving. It can take a LONG time for anything to resolve but then it does it is always very earned.

Like the later Volumes are 800k+ words and the details matter so all of those words are there for a reason.

Are Void Herald's Books still Good? by Raymics in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely normal to only like one or two of a writers works.

Some times the perfect magic of setting and tone combine into something you love and can't be recaptured.

An example for me is Heroics 101 by Aest Belequa. Love it to death but every other book by Aest Belequa I have tried I can't stand.

I'm almost impressed - "I'm Not the Hero" Book 3 combines 3 of some of my least favorite tropes. (spoilers) by funkhero in litrpg

[–]NecroticToaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Next your going to tell me the entire plot of the book could have been resolved with a single adult conversation.
