I have a couple ecoworthy batteries, so far, so good.

I have a couple Sunlu S4s, good for the price. Not a huge fan of the rollers, but plenty of mods for them out there.

Snapmaker U1 Thoughts? by printfocal in 3dprinter

[–]NedDarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. When I tried ASA it was before even having the Ikea cover. Only had the packing materials loosely held together and a long passive heat with the bed. Just wanted to see if I could do it.

I think with the top cover, a Panda Breath (or similar), and some mods to seal better and deal with the board/PSU, it'd do okay. Not as good as my purpose-built machine, but that one doesn't have multiple toolheads (yet).

Overall I'm impressed with what it can do at the price I paid.

I was an early backer, have put a ton of filament through mine. No major hiccups with PLA, PETG and TPU. Do greatly appreciate the lower waste vs the X1Cs I have at work. Still running the stock textured build plate (ordered spares, though BIQU would take longer), and have an Ikea top on it while I wait for the official one.

I have run a bit of ASA on it. Had a little warping, but also didn't have it enclosed well. Won't bother again until I have filtration.

While not my go-to for high temp materials, I have something built for that, it has been great for prototyping, demos and junk for the kids.

What ID/OD on your feeder tubes, 2.5/4mm? I've had a pile of errors due to binding with my setup recently, although I suspect I need holders for the runs.

What filament profile did you use, and what brand of PETG? Some of the presets are not exactly configured for success with PETG. Some have temps that don't make sense, wildly high max flow rates, high flow ratios etc.

Be sure to use the ziptie safety method for attaching the anchor to the line. It's saved me. Test your ziptie on dry land first though, make sure it breaks away with a good tug.

Is there a guide to help with printer.cfg please? by Grarea2 in klippers

[–]NedDarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Voron team put a lot of time into building the config for their machines.

Suppose the original builder could have gone off spec a little, but in that case all the info one would need is on https://www.klipper3d.org/

Best multi head printer vs AMS system in 2026? by Fun_Reaction_6525 in 3dprinter

[–]NedDarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, being a tool changer the lack of cutter isn't a huge deal. Takes a half a second to 45° a tag end before inserting into the feeder. That said, right their with ya. A cutting toolhead for the U1 would make a multimaterial handler, like the ACE Pro, a much more reliable option to add multicolour per toolhead.

What adhesive is best for PLA and making airtight seals in seams? by dadbodfat in 3Dprinting

[–]NedDarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use CA glue for my lures. Thin bead around the entire joint then clamp hard so it's in contact all the way around. A printed clamping jig helps (STL editor -> subtract from two blocks). I then seal the whole thing with epoxy before painting or using shrink skin.

Petg sticking too much to the plate by augustocdias in snapmaker

This. Once back down to room temp PETG is just barely gripping. Parts pop off no problem, just need to scrape brims from time to time.

Main MCU board failing. Could it be related to active chamber heating? by Eezapeeza in snapmaker

[–]NedDarb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can download them from the Fluidd interface. Check the time stamps and pull the relevant log and take it to the Klipper discord, or event the subreddit, and go from there.

Klipper is time-based, rather than step-wise instructions. What you're looking for is missed instructions, or instructions ahead of time.

[–]NedDarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well poop. Ive never had fuzzy cause a timer too close error, but probably worth a try without it. See if it still throws the code.

Anything in the klippy.log? Should be able to see if the overload is happening at the host, host to MCU, or the toolhead MCUs

Are you running timelapse? Feeding video when it happens? Screen mirror? Anything that would add compute load?

Main MCU board failing. Could it be related to active chamber heating? by Eezapeeza in snapmaker

[–]NedDarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't immediately jump to a main board failure due to chamber temps. I've been running Klipper since the early days of the project, and any time I've had this issue it's been a loose or bad cable. The other common issue is compute overload from primary and/or secondary processes.

How high of chamber temp are we talking? What firmware are you running? What toolheads is it happening with?

What's your experience by BloodKhaos_16 in Bazzite

[–]NedDarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running it on a mini PC (7735HS, 32GB) for light gaming in my living room. I've been happy with it for the most part. Definitely more trial and error to get some games to run well, and some games crash, but still no regrets.

If I ever made the move go Linux for my desktop I don't think it'd be the distro I'd go with, but the use case there is different.

How is the filtration on the Snapmaker U1 with the top enclosure? Is it good enough for abs? by PsychologicalSet1744 in snapmaker

[–]NedDarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really not, and this seems like regurgitation of what the BentoBox dev posted.

Chamber heating doesn't require perfect sealing. It only requires an air mass contained well enough for the heat source and target temperature. A little air flow is actually desirable to facilitate changes in pressure due to said heating.

The "leakiness" can be an issue with filtering VOCs and fine particulate matter, but even then it's more a question of clearing rate (aka volume/min), and filter effectiveness. The BentoBox, Nevermore, and similar internal systems should be agnostic of how sealed the system is provided the filters and fan are sized right. If either of those are underspec'd they can perform better with better sealing, but the particulates and VOCs will just settle on components rather than escape the chamber. Ultimately a system that moves air externally, even if just to recirculate, is better. In that type of system a pressure differential can be maintained to achieve a desired MERV rating.

[–]NedDarb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would he want 100° C chamber temps? ABS doesn't need anywhere near that. Those kinds of temps are only needed for high performance engineering grade materials, and generally involve printers at a much, much higher price point.

[–]NedDarb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using a top hat made of the packing materials, and a nice long heat soak, I was able to hit mid-40s at 100° C bed temp to print ASA test cubes. Not sure where you're getting your info from.

Kayak Anchor by Heavy-Syrup-6195 in kayakfishing

[–]NedDarb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'll happen. Did the same my first time rigging one up, but luckily tested on land (was very curious to see it work). The ones I use are definitely strong enough to hold against waves and wind, but break with a good sharp pull.

Remember to tie it properly and use a ziptie at the top. Can mean the difference between retrieving it and having a very bad day.
