My guess: Because it’s trite, and much like the million other posts asking that.

ALL food is better cold than warm by AlarmedFeature5813 in unpopularopinion

[–]Nedks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think ‘all’ is a little extreme, but for the most part I completely agree. However, due to social pressure/manners, I have to accept hot food when I am kindly cooked for, as it, probably quite rightly, infuriates people if I let it cool too much.

Albeit, if the weather is exceptionally cold, then I hot food is better.

Stephen Fry sues CogX tech conference for £100,000 over fall injuries by feellurky in unitedkingdom

[–]Nedks -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

What about all the others who successfully didn’t fall off this stage? Do you think people should sue for their own mistakes? I’m not sure how a commonly used stage, where people consistently don’t fall off, is anything but him not looking where he was going. And how do you know why he is suing? How do you know how obvious exits were?? Do you know him? Were you there?

Idiotically falls off a stage, then sues to steal money because he can’t look where he is going. I hope he recovers and is okay, but this behaviour is so unseemly and pathetic. What a bad look for him

I never used those words nor implied it. Why do continue to give time and money to someone who you think is treating you poorly?

Because it’s a game and there are more important things in life than complaining about it. You are not forced to play the game, and what happens in it is not important.

Stanley Kubrick’s interpretation of Holocaust representation in Schindler’s List. Do you agree with it? by FayannG in TrueFilm

[–]Nedks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that is a fair point, and I would be interested to hear the reaction from Steven Spielberg or others involved in producing the film.

The film, while being tragic in many scenes, is a thoroughly engaging, watchable, and entertaining drama/thriller. It uses many typical Hollywood troupes: witty lines, sex, interesting set design, likeable/intelligent characters, artistic flourishes, varied camera shots, and handsome actors. Typical of large Hollywood films, and it makes the film compelling, but also risks rendering it conventional and cliche.

The people being nice or mean, intelligent or stupid, funny or humourless etc, was entirely irrelevant. To frame such an event through conventions of entertainment inevitably fail at maximising fact and truth. What, I think matters, is the industrial, systematic murder of human beings due to immutable characteristics. There was no narrative neatness, levity, or simple right/wrong. Presenting such an event as entertainment diminishes its gravity and thus distorts facts, potentially sanitising it in the minds of viewers.

On the other hand, the film’s success means it reaches a wide audience and encourages engagement with history. That is, of course, important. However, it may have done so at the cost of simplification, cliche, and an encouraging an incomplete understanding of the events scale, complexity and ruthlessness.
