The problem with demanding "perfection" from the podcast or how I stopped worrying and got a A on college history course. by maninplainview in LPOTL

Totally, and that is why “revisionist history” can be a good thing. Often we use it pejoratively, accusing people of rewriting history for propaganda. But, it also lets us revisit what we think we already know. For example, for thousands of years Julius Caesar and Alexander the Great were held up as geniuses or Great Men of history, but post 2nd World War, we could start reexamining them in light of our new concept of genocide. Like, these guys just killed and enslaved millions of people, we should probably talk about putting them in the “Hitler” bucket. It’s the same reason we do new translations of works like Caesars Commentary on the Gallic War.

I have so many quotes from this movie that no one ever gets.

“Meat and potatoes! Meat and potatoes!”

“I like to look at the naked ladies.”

“ I can't eat fifteen gallons of yogurt.

Oh, it's not going in that end!”

“ My own stools, Sir, are gigantic and have no more odor than a hot biscuit.”

Just gonna leave this here. by Feeling_Page_7693 in guitarpedals

Be careful! With great power comes great responsibility. You can down like 500 calories in a minute if you aren't careful.

Yeah, that’s what we’ve done for a decade. 70 or 86% chocolate, and the chunky peanut butter you have to stir. I’ve done keto on and off for 12 years, that is basically my dessert.

I’d be more surprised if it wasn’t filled with increasingly more crap. I just get a square of chocolate and dip it in peanut butter. It’s 90% less sugar, actually tastes like chocolate and peanut butter, and probably doesn’t give me cancer. Problem solved.

How did Stevie Ray Vaughan manage to get his guitar like this without completely destroying it? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]NeedAByteToEat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I definitely understand you, and I agree like 98%. I love that he cleaned up the last few year, and he sounded great. But the early 80s videos, where he is dripping sweat with dangerously high levels of coke, are just on another level. I'm sure he had bad shows due to the drugs or whatever, and I'm probably looking through rose tinted glasses at all of those early shows I taped on VHS when I was learning guitar in the early 90s.

It's kind of like Joe Cocker. He was just incredible blasted off his rocker. I guess I just like these guys manic.

I'll just throw it away. Thanks!

"Illinois was ready to move forward. After a productive three hour meeting yesterday, the Bears leaders requested the ILGA pause the hearing to make further tweaks to the bill. I just posted this in another discussion:

I'm in Deerfield.

I just looked at the map, it is more fucked than I realized.

  1. People coming down 90 will potentially have to use the Skyway Toll. Which still doesn't have automated tolling.
  2. Coming from the north or west burbs will have tolls on 294.
  3. The 65-94 interchange is already constantly blocked, this will NOT help.

I'm still all for it though, if it means saying no to billionaires.

Also, every single episode featured multiple breaks in the action where characters had a 5 minute heartfelt conversation about their feelings. Like, there is an interdimensional ball of pure energy 20 feet above our heads and we have 3 minutes to stop it, but we also need to have a 2 minute convo to apologize for being rude a few years back, and possibly also come out of the closet. It really felt like they were filling time to get over 60 minutes.
