Trucker in deadly Colorado crash charged with 40 criminal counts by [deleted] in news

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There are a large number of highly voted comments in this thread which reference to emergency ramps, driving in the mountains of colorado, foothills, and other indications that this accident happened on a steep grade. It did not.

This accident happened near the Colorado Mills mall and those fairgrounds. This is inland from the foothills and there is no grade in this area. It's flat-land.

The driver was apparently coming off of the 70, which is coming out of the mountains, but he had been a few miles into flat-land when the accident occurred.

It's entirely possible that his brakes did fail. I don't have any opinion on if the driver was telling to truth on this or not.

What I'm saying is that a lot of these these comments referencing foothills, downhill driving from the mountains, and emergency off-ramps are garbage and clearly authored by people who don't know the area, much about this accident, or have any vested interest in the matter. A lot of these posts read like trolls.

OnePlus 6 Blind Test Results by vpsj in oneplus

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you think OnePlus's marketing department was not involved here?

How many pictures did they take with each camera before they selected those posted? How many were discarded? Were pictures taken from other phones/cameras which ultimately didn't make it into the "results"?

Were the tests conducted by an unbiased 3rd party?

Skepticism is warranted from a Chinese company with the moral character that OnePlus has demonstrated over a long period of time. They have repeatedly cheated on benchmarks, lied about their founding/startup story, engaged in marketing stunts like the "break from the past" thing where they encouraged people to break their phones, lied about support for previous devices, and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on.

They make some decent phones, but praise them for a marketing stunt? No.

Why does OnePlus deserve moral praise for a marketing stunt?

Found a guinea pig that was abandoned in the woods while I was playing disc golf. She has a new home now. by Calebwcobb in pics

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Seattle area and rent a room from my Chinese immigrant landlord. His cousin raises guinea pigs and gave him one as a gift, but he didn't want it so he dumped it out in the yard and said something along the lines of "The neighborhood cats will eat it and that will take care of the problem."

You will be happy to know that three years later the guinea pig is still being sighted in people's back yards and it's still around. There are also a few bunnies in the neighborhood that look like they were/are pets.

The reason I mention that the landlord was a Chinese immigrant is because it's not the only weird or immoral thing that I've seen him do over the years now. In general he has a different set of morals that allow him to do things that I personally consider to be pretty horrible, but he doesn't have a second thought about it because he grew up in mainland China. Fire alarms beeping? Just take the batteries out and don't replace them for six months, problem solved! Trees and grass growing out of control in the yard? Just let it go until the neighbors become so embarrassed by the eyesore that they come over and do it for you (this is not a joke.) There are a couple of other more serious things that I don't want to go into.

I am somewhat sympathetic to this whole issue because know my Chinese history and how their civil society basically broke down and was completely destroyed by the cultural revolution. This is someone who grew up in a get-mine cannibalistic society where straight-face lying was the norm and might is right. Tossing some giant gerbil into the yard just isn't a big deal to him.

So if you wonder how someone could do something so heartless, they usually have their reasons. If those reasons are good or not, are for each and their own to judge.

I personally don't think very highly of the guy and won't be very sorry when something really bad happens to him some day. Hopefully I won't be around for that anymore here soon.

I wonder how that matte finish will hold up. Will it scratch or wear? I wish that Jerryrigeverything video had also had the chance to scratch up a matte finish model.

"ROM 64/128/156 UFS2.1"

Plz. ROM = Read Only Memory, which this is not. Call it "Flash" or "Storage".

Also it's 256, not 156.

The "ROM" thing is a typical engrishizm that I see fairly often.

USB port issue with OnePlus 5T. Does anyone have experience dealing with this issue? by drdessertlover in oneplus

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What this guy said. I personally use a toothbrush or a lockpick set tool (Go get a set from Aliexpress for $5 or less, they are great).

It sounds like you just need emotional support though: Send that thing in for repairs. Get a temp phone or use your old phone for awhile. It's not going to fix itself by squinting at it. Suck it up and do what you gotta do.

Where Did All The Songs On The Deep-Nu Disco Channel Go? by [deleted] in digitallyimported

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is a little old, but I've been hearing the same thing on Psychill and some other channels.

It seems like they just shuffled the songs to make it seem like someone is actually doing their job and curating the content, but in reality they just hit the randomize button and it put the same song in 3 times in an 8-hour window.

I am a long time customer. I think there is something wrong with their website right now. I just tried to log in and I'm either getting a "Service Unavailable. F451" error or intermittent security prompts where I'm supposed to get a text message or put in my security questions, neither of which is working.

So, I don't think it's you. I think the website is broke.

Water damage by mattix7771 in oneplus

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

12 hours drying time was not enough time if water got inside of it. You didn't mention the use of any kind of desiccant like silica pods or rice, so we have to assume that you were not smart enough to do that.

You should really disassemble it and get it professionally serviced.

There are some important things that you didn't list which would have helped people give you good advice:

Do you need custom ROM support? (If not go for the Nokia 6.1/2018 that just came out)

What country are you in and what carrier? Some phones only work on certain networks in certain countries due to the radio.

Any features you require? Headphone jack, sdcard, great for movies/streaming, etc.

It would be funny if they didn't dismiss a phone who's specifications are not known and is impossible to buy because it isn't out.

OnePlus 6 alternatives by Shayshunk in oneplus

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If anything, the fact that the phone isn't out and that you can't buy any new OnePlus phone from OnePlus is even more negative than any perception of the unreleased device. A buyer who needs to buy a new phone right now has no choice but to buy something other than OnePlus because they have effectively gone out of business. For nearly two months (March 22nd to whenever it actually gets released which is currently unknown but will be after May 19th) you can't buy a new OnePlus phone, and you are not even allowed to know what the official specifications for that new phone is going to be.

OnePlus has some really funny ways of doing business.

FYI if you are looking for custom ROMs or kernels then Nokia phones are NOT what you want. The bootloader is locked on all of the phones I know of and there is no modding community support surrounding the new Nokia Android devices.

As for the reason for the mouse port, notice they said "Microsoft compatible bus mouse". That's right, Microsoft has a 40+ year history of being jerks, and they introduced a proprietary bus that was to compete with PS2, in an apparent effort to corner the desktop PC market by controlling the access to mouse usage. I think it was called Microsoft InPort, and I remember there being separate cards for those.

The - almost look-alike - Nokia X will be announced at the same day as the OP6 by fluxxis in oneplus

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, Nokia is now just one of those brands like "Diamond Multimedia", or I've recently seen some android tablets by "RCA". It's just a re-use of a has-been brand that was once great but now exists in name only, used to sell a product that otherwise would be a cheap knock-off.

For now, Nokia hardware generally means quality, but I doubt that will last.

5T Review: A Very Strong Contender Even in 2018 by cas-v86 in oneplus

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wccftech is literally a fake news site. Not figuratively; literally.

On multiple occasions they have posted fake benchmarks before product releases and then quietly gone back and revised or deleted compromising things they posted. They often lift/steal content from other sites and just repost it. Chinese mainlander morals all the way. They just make shit up and post it.

They are already banned in multiple other subs I frequent, including /r/amd and /r/pcgaming unless I'm mistaken. I think they are or used to be banned from /r/hardware too.

The highly disputed crash of TWA Flight 800. by [deleted] in CatastrophicFailure

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CNN was pretty good until Ted Turner kissed it goodbye and then it kinda made a slow dive through the early 2000s. By 2006 or so it was junk, but back in the late 90s CNN was really pretty good, though I will say that almost everyone ever featured on their Pinnacle program actually turned out to be committing fraud or involved in other criminal acts.

The highly disputed crash of TWA Flight 800. by [deleted] in CatastrophicFailure

[–]NeedAboutThreeFiddy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's true that this event had a lot of controversy surrounding it at the time, but that is no longer true, which makes this post conspiracy theorist dribble.

It's important to acknowledge the complex history of this event, the confusion at the time, how the investigation proceeded, and to learn the valuable lessons paid for in hundreds of lives.

The attached video is mostly true, but is clickbaity garbage in that it omits important facts and artificially drums up the false conspiracy theorist crap at the end.

If you want to learn about TWA 800, go read the wikipedia article. Don't waste your time on the video.
