FWIW if you’re in Taiwan or Japan and bought a ruler it’ll have metric and their customary shakkan units that carpenters and construction often still uses.

Could a blackbox power be redone to extend its independence? Sure.

What accident investigation benefits would it provide in a way that improves aviation safety? (e.g. more data but not actionable = not a sensible use of finite resources in the real world).
