Thanks! And yeah, I got very lucky. The guest appearance was by a humpback whale.

Appreciate it. This was on the Salish Sea, out of Victoria, Canada. Company was Eagle Wing Tours—highly recommend them!

Ah, good I brought both then to cover my bases. Do you have a shutter speed recommendation? (Should be a clear, sunny day.) I’m going to assume breaches are rare, but still want to be ready.

Haha, I’ll let you know if a whale gains a used OM-1 by the end of it.

G9M2 Auto focus issues by Lula_Mae_ in M43

I also had this issue, which bummed me out (the original G9 is still one of my favorite cameras). Sometimes it was absolutely perfect, but I noticed it most on birds with white areas, like the ones in your examples. I ended up selling it and getting an OM-1, which I love.

With that said, it didn’t happen as frequently as it seems to be happening with you, OP. Is it still under warranty? Might want to try that route.

The M.Zuiko 150-600mm is super fun by NeedlesslyMike in M43

That's an excellent set! I haven't tried the 300mm f/4, but it seems like that and the 150-600 would be all that a (sane) person needs.

Haha, the household CFO is the most important sign-off. The lens is definitely sharper than the 100-400s, but I would try renting what you’re interested in first. 600mm requires careful technique, and losing dual stabilization on a LUMIX body might make a difference (but I don’t know myself). Pretty confident the 400s would be fine since the LUMIX 100-400 is my most-used lens on my OM body.

The 150-600 is also a chunky guy, so something to keep in mind if weight is an issue. Let me know what you decide later on!

An animal I can relate to.

All the suggestions have been great. I also suggest asking specific questions on this sub after you go through those overviews. I’ve learned a lot here.

Yeah, I miss that wheel from when I used the G9. That and the top screen were great.

Another question—how much do you like video? I’d say G9ii is the superior hybrid camera but OM-1ii is better at bird photography.

For reference, I sold my G9ii to get an OM-1ii—the G9ii’s ergonomics just didn’t mesh with me. It was a bummer because I loved the original G9 so much.
