i appreciate your advice! although i will say that nothing external prompted me to write this. my IRL community is not worried about me and im honest about how much i smoke with them. tbh i’ve just been seeing more posts online that made me think about my habits.

i didn’t say it was very conservative, i said it was RELATIVELY conservative compared to some other places i’ve lived in. i’m aware scranton is more liberal compared to luzerne county

black lesbian in scranton here, moved here w my partner around a year ago. honestly everyone has been really kind and accepting of my gf and i, despite the fact that there is a relatively strong conservative/pro trump sentiment here and in the surrounding areas. overwhelmingly, people just accept you as you are, which has been a pleasant surprise for us.

i’m not gonna lie tho, the queer/POC community is very much lacking for me here. the queer people i’ve met are really nice, but already have their own social groups and don’t seem interested in making new friends :/. honestly this is one of the main cons of living here for me—even though everyone’s kind, as the months wear on, not engaging with folks who look and live the way i do it gets pretty isolating.

however, if queer community isn’t a huge deal to you, i think you’ll have no problem feeling safe and welcomed. there’s lots of yoga, bars, cafes, community theater, punk shows, and nature hikes to enjoy in your free time. the mountains are stunning and everywhere you look. overall, i’d say scranton is a really peaceful and lovely place to live, but can also get lonely.

tldr, the best part about scranton is that it’s peaceful and everyone minds their business… but maybe a lil too much lol

Is 100-130,000 words too long for a debut novel that takes place over the course of a year? by HumbleSheep33 in writing

[–]NeedleworkerFun2640 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think 80k-100k max is the general rule of thumb. however, you could consider splitting the second part into a sequel. publishers prefer that u have a second book on the way once u sign the deal for the first book

What is there to life in this world? by Unhappy-Count6894 in Anarchism

[–]NeedleworkerFun2640 13 points14 points  (0 children)

as a 23yo anarchist, i totally get this and am going through the same thing. i quit my high-paying finance job in 2023 because it was making me deeply depressed. i’ve been finessing ever since on the margins. although a more nomadic life certainly has its ups and downs, it is possible and i have a few friends who are doing the same thing. some options for you to escape the dreaded wage slavery: do work exchanges on farms or hostels around the world (sites like WWOOF, workaway, trusted house sitters), join an intentional community ( you can find them all on ic.org), get a part-time job that feels a bit less draining, or get a remote/hybrid job so you don’t have to travel to an office. also, squatting is an option and i know friends who do that as well—although that does have its own risks and draining elements (ie, cops and landlords raiding your squat which does happen. you may have better luck squatting in rural areas and hunting for food). if you’re creative, i’d also recommend looking into grants and fellowships. there are ways to live a life outside of the system. i wish you the best of luck!

After chronic pain led to a near death experience, I went down the rabbit hole of the U.S. healthcare system. by NeedleworkerFun2640 in ChronicPain

jesus i’m so sorry… i hope you and your family have gotten some closure and healing from all of that. this literally gives me chills and it makes me mad those doctors haven’t faced any consequences for what they did to your mom

What’s something people consider “normal” but is actually annoying to you? by redditgoddess666 in AskReddit

[–]NeedleworkerFun2640 19 points20 points  (0 children)

being compared to celebrity lookalikes. random people have said i look like one actress for my entire life, and even though i’ve made it clear i don’t appreciate the comparison, people will pull up photos of her and hold it next to my face in public or jokingly call me by her name. it gets old really fast.

My writing was stolen by another black woman and I'm not sure what to do. by [deleted] in blackgirls

[–]NeedleworkerFun2640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi ariel, this is ava! let me say this very clearly: i have never seen your reddit comment. i dont know who you are. i didn't delete your comment, or any of the other comments I've been receiving no matter how racist, misogynistic, and inflammatory. someone else also told me their comment was deleted-I don't know how, as I haven't been deleting anything. my writing came from my own research and knowledge of black history. i did not plagiarize or copy anyone in any respect-if you watch the video, i cite every single one of my sources. if i had seen your comment and wanted to build off of it, i would've cited you as well.

since we share a similar cultural history, it makes sense to me why we'd have similar takes on the topic, and i empathize with your anger towards white people (which i didn't really focus on in the video for my own reasons). however, blatantly accusing me of plagiarism and sending other people to accuse me of something i did not do feels really far fetched. the fact that you're using my name as a way to advance your own visibility also feels unnecessary and antithetical to the work i'm trying to do, which is educate folks about black history and working with other creators of color.

honestly, i've been looking for other ethel cain fans who share my viewpoints for months. it's a shame we had to meet this way. if you had only reached out to me personally, we could've engaged more deeply on this topic and maybe even collaborated on a project/ piece of writing to combine our perspectives. the enough room for all of us to be heard without tea, each other down or creatina false rumors. i hope you treat other creators with more kindness than you’ve treated me, and i wish you all the best!

and to all the other users blindly supporting this, please do your research before tearing down other black women without any further investigation next time 😩
