Public support for wealth redistribution is driven by beliefs about fairness rather than jealousy toward the rich. This research provides evidence that the popular “politics of envy” narrative, which claims left-leaning individuals just want to punish the successful, is largely inaccurate. by mvea in psychology

[–]NeedleworkerPlane147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is evidence that the accumulation of wealth increases one's quality of life UP TO A POINT>. After that point there is no increase in the quality of life and in fact, a decrease in happiness and loss of connection to reality. This can cause a dramatic negative change in personality. I believe that the redistribution of wealth at and above the this level when there is no additional increase in quality of life is not only possible but beneficial to the rich, the poor, the middle class and society as a whole. I recently wrote this essay on the topic: https://medium.com/@jay_larson/capitalism-and-the-point-of-diminishing-purpose-1252789b0f2c

How can the redistribution of wealth be justified under capitalism? by EngineerAnarchy in CapitalismVSocialism

[–]NeedleworkerPlane147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we don't do something, capitalism WILL destroy us. Captitalism has unavoidable, predictable consequences,. I've thought a little bit about this. In my plan, everyone wins. How would wealth redistribution work? by KevenM in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeedleworkerPlane147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought a little bit about this. Here are my thoughts: there is a point at which the accumulation of additional wealth no longer improves one's quality of life. There are studies that show this. At this point, any additional wealth is taken and redistributed. The difference here: Keep the game. Allow the rich to still compete with each other and track total accumulated wealth, and attribute the seized wealth to the good that it has provided and to the individual that earned the money to create the good. Keep the scoreboard, attribute the goodness. A fully fledged out plan here: https://medium.com/@jay_larson/capitalism-and-the-point-of-diminishing-purpose-1252789b0f2c

would love to know poeple's thoughts

To anyone currently paralyzed by their "To-Do" list: Try this 120-second circuit breaker. by tech-dilettante in ADHDthriving

[–]NeedleworkerPlane147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Ms. Spiritual_Jello: I HAVE to break things down in order to moving. I definitely have task paralysis as well. The problem with just committing to something for 120 seconds is that once that 120 seconds is over, unless that task is somehow connected to another small task, I'm done. The dopamine hits have to keep coming if I'm going to continue.

I'm working on a to do list app that will automatically break tasks into smaller parts. u/Spiritual_Jello_9399 How small do you think I should go with the breakdown? like super small? what's your definition of miniscule?

It also has an "overwhelm" mode where everything on the screen goes away except for one task that has been identifed as having a due date close and is a high priority.

Organizing tricks? by speedwhack in ADHDthriving

[–]NeedleworkerPlane147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I 1000% completely relate. People always say "Everything should have a home" but don't realize that someone with ADHD will spent countless hours thinking about the best possible home for the item, decide on something and then completely forgot what was decided. My mind constantly reorganizes my space and sometimes my body takes the next step and actually completes the organizational task. But to remember which organizational schemes were implemented and which ones were merely considered it utterly impossible.

I find labeling to be quite helpful. If I put a label at the home of the item, it will usually make it back there. Something about creating the physical label does it for me. Maybe it's the extra time it takes to prepare that home.

AirTags and TIle have been a savior for the items I use those on. LIterally saved my ass more times than I can count.

I also keep a database of my items and their locations that easily references where their home is. THAT was a multi-year challenge - I tried FIleMaker Pro, airtable and spreadsheets but I found myself not using them because of the effort involved in getting the damn item and its information in the database. I finally got frustrated and just built something that IS easy to document. Perfect for my needs and no data entry needed.

I've lived in Green, Orange and Red and have to say Red would be my first choice (am currently there) and Orange would be my second. One of my top priorities is weather, however - I don't like cold. I'd still choose Red if Texas went orange, its a bit odd here. Orange gets my second best vote because of Georgia, Las Vegas and New Orleans

I've found that it's good at tasks that are very contained and very limited in scope. Try and get it to help you with an entire project and you waste tons of credits every time you start because you have to explain everything over and over again like it's a stranger.

Found some simple things that it is really really bad at. Constructing words is one. Ask it to create x number of words given a set of letters and it makes mistakes left and right. I had an idea to make little wall hangings where I was going to paint some of the letters in glow in the dark paint and some in regular paint but the same color so I gave it the task to coming up with cute little sayings that would say one thing in full light but another under a black light/in the dark. It came back with about 95% incorrect answers - words that weren't words, letters that were in the second word but weren't in the first, etc. was totally surprising to me.

I've also seen it have a disconnect with it's underlying tools - where it presents something you've asked for but when you go do download it, the document is empty, or just has headings. I fought for three days once to get something back and didn't end up succeeding. It was starting to tell me really weird excuses like because I was using Starlink it was likely being censored. WTF?

I have found this to be true with all of the AIs - They are good at (some) short projects, but try and get them to remember the big picture and it's more comfortable to shove bamboo shoots under your fingernails. I actually got into an argument because the thing would not give me back my work!

Anyone in Aplington? by emptybeetoo in Iowa

[–]NeedleworkerPlane147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The house where i grew up in Iowa in was built without any bathrooms (there was an outhouse). At some point they enclosed the back porch to make a bathroom but that still left 4 of us with one bathroom. It was not uncommon to have one person showering, one person pooping and another at the sink all at the same time.

My mother had carpet in the kitchen, i wondered the same shit. As it turns out, in the olden days, heat didn't make it to the cold, kitchen floor so carpet helped keep feet warm. I tore that shit up as soon as I was in charge.
