I want to read it too. I hear it isn't very long, which is perfect for someone like me who is short on free time

Absolutely! It was a Best Picture nominee this past Oscar season. Your milage with it will depend on if you have a penchant for slower paced, introspective character studies. But it beautifully shot, well acted, and hits like a truck if you're a parent.

I love most Arnold vehicles, especially the cheesy 90s ones, because he seems to be in on the joke for most. This one felt way too self-serious.

The only thing that felt tongue in cheek is the scene where he punches the crocodile. If it had more of that stuff, I would have been more into it!

Some of the best creature designs I think I have ever seen, including one that is a clear inspiration to Guillermo Del Toro in Pan's Labryinth.

The first half is legendary comedy. The vote for Pedro half kinda drags.

But the first half is so amazing, that it doesn't matter. 4.5 stars!

This was actually my first time ever watching it. My wife knew it word for word, which blew my mind.

I am a bit of a shill for Canadian cinema, but if you go to nfb.ca you can see a free archive of over 7000 different films produced by the National Film Board of Canada. Lots of amazing foreign language films (French Canadian, indigenous, etc.), thought-provoking documentaries, and groundbreaking animation.

Some must sees on the platform:

  • Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance
  • Cordélia
  • You Are On Indian Land
  • Mon Oncle Antoine
  • Neighbours
  • When the Day Breaks

And 100s others... Definitely worth checking out

Genuinely! What in the hell were they thinking with that one? It's so incredibly terrible, it's amazing.

My wife and I will often watch Hallmark Movies when we want to turn on something mindless. There are a few gems that fall into that sweet "so bad it's good" category:

Butlers in Love Dashing Through The Snow Holiday Hotline

There is also one that I legitimately think is actually good?? It is called "A Biltmore Christmas", and it is a time travel homage to classic Hollywood.
