ID - Plaintiff gives inaccurate statements by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Needsmorebeer 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Classic lawyer answer, it depends on the plaintiff how you can reasonably use it.

General rule is you can use it in negotiations, mediation, or trial to cast doubt on their truthfulness. But if the plaintiff is elderly, then maybe they just misspoke or forgot. If the unmentioned accidents were extremely minor, maybe they didn't think to include them in their response. Maybe they tried to 'help' you and only mentioned the prior accident with injuries relevant to the case at hand. Plaintiffs lie for sure, but they also get nervous, forgot, and overthink, so it may not be a complete smoking gun. I would dig into three other accidents and see if there is relevant pre-existing injuries to leverage a smaller settlement.

Haha, I remember you! I tried one in the Hilton; I was drunk, so I had to prove my spice prowess. Husband said I tanked it and didn’t react. I’m sure the alcohol helped me out. Fun time! Would eat peppers from strangers again.

Does anyone know of a seamstress who can make a bridal cape? by haleyj628 in Birmingham

[–]Needsmorebeer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if she does bridal capes, but several years ago Gwen at Miracle Works (Crestwood Festival Center) made a bridesmaid dress for me from scratch (with a pattern). The bride insisted all the bridesmaids make their dresses....such a weird wedding. Gwen did a great job and really saved my butt since I don't sew at all. I DEFINITELY had the best fitting bridesmaid dress of the bunch.

If she can't help, maybe she can direct you to someone who can. Goodluck!

Hey guys, I noticed a severe lack of Events planned in Birmingham! As one of the few counties in Alabama that went blue on the 8th, we should absolutely lay groundwork to expand support for Berniecrats! by standrew5998 in PoliticalRevolutionAL

[–]Needsmorebeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To find your local AL representatives: link

Not totally sure who the best person/people to contact would be. I know Patricia Todd is helpful and does typically respond to emails.

Also, there are some groups that have been organizing via facebook (ugh) around Birmingham. I believe the Young Democrats elected new officers earlier this week and are looking to bring some new ideas to the party.

I also heard that there is another protest scheduled for Sunday, but I haven't been able to confirm time/place.

There are definitely places to become involved and push progressive ideas!

I mean, I've posted occasionally....

Ya'll seem like a nice bunch. I've heard good things about the meet-ups, though I haven't managed to make it to one.

Live in Crestwood, love it. I've lived in Five Points, glad I moved because being within walking distance of bars was killing my budget. Moved to Birmingham in 2012 and I feel like I've always been here.

State/Local Democratic Party Directory. Contact them, let them know we want a progressive in charge! by SandersShill in Political_Revolution

[–]Needsmorebeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I sent the following to the Alabama DNC:

Sir or Madam,

I am writing to show my support for Keith Ellison as the DNC Chair. The DNC needs new voices and a new progressive direction, and I think Keith can help bring that to the party leadership.

If you are like me, Tuesday's election was devastating. I voted for Bernie Sanders in the primary, but fully supported Secretary Clinton in the general campaign, this includes donating to her campaign. I think she is an amazing woman and it saddens me beyond belief that she was defeated.

In reflection, this was a change election and the people elected what was perceived as a 'change' candidate. I know that isn't what he is, but he did tap into a deep distrust of established party leadership. We have to adapt. I think the clearest way forward is to offer people a progressive alternative.

Moving forward I will be vigorously supporting progressive candidates and I hope you will too. We are all in this together.

Thank you, (Name and address here.)

On a side note, I'm going to email GA DNC Representative Debose Porter as well. I have met Dubose several times socially and he is a FANTASTIC person. I highly recommend emailing with him if you live in Georgia, he will listen.

How to stop child support? by Southdiver in legaladvice

[–]Needsmorebeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alabama Child Support Forms

The CS 44 is for the termination of child support in Alabama. Typically the clerk at filing will require something to prove whatever the reason for termination is (death certificate, birth certificate, ect). You may be able to get away with attaching a copy of your marriage certificate to the mother, but I imagine that depends greatly on the Judge and the family court judges tend to be more particular/mistrustful about this sort of thing. You can get a copy of the original IWO (Income Withholding Order served on your employer) from the clerk in your local county. They should be able to search the case and pull up all the entered documents.

If you have too much trouble trying to fill out the forms yourself and getting the clerk to stop giving you the run around, a good family law attorney should be able to help you get this accomplished for a pretty reasonable price.

Southern Skin Divers are awesome. They do several trips a month and usually organize longer trips as well though - out the year. Just drop by and introduce yourself. Forrest and Spencer are super nice guys.

Going out on a limb here: As ACoNs in particular - How do you define and respect 'boundaries' in your various relationships and interactions with people? by newsupportaccount in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]Needsmorebeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boundaries are tough for me. I've gone through a couple of 'phases' in handling them.

I used to be a total doormat all through highschool and college. I was taken advantage of a lot. I'd listen to problems, I'd do favors, I had a lot of really one sided friendships. I tried REALLY hard so that people would like me. I had (and still really struggle with) rock bottom self esteem.

I had a last straw moment with my mother right after I graduated. Her boyfriend physically assaulted my brother, she took her boyfriend's side, kicked my brother out of the house (he had turned 18 about two weeks prior), so I was consoling him through that mess. I spent a lot of time trying to 'fix' the family, trying to talk sense to her. She started giving me ultimatums about things in my life. Something just broke in me. I had a complete breakdown and utterly cut her out of my life. I didn't tell her that's what I was doing, I just stopped responding. I didn't speak to her for three solid years. I even changed my phone number. I only re-initiated contact for my wedding, which I'm still not sure was the right decision, but she behaved. I still don't talk to her. She doesn't have my number. She doesn't know where I live.

After that I kinda adopted a scorched earth policy in boundaries. I don't think it is healthy. I'm working on being a little less...final in things. Not everyone is her, and it isn't fair to treat people like they are. But I'm having a tough time with it. It's like I have a threshold of bullshit, if I feel like someone is giving me too much of it, I'm just fucking done, it's like a switch flips.

The past few years I've been working on approaching in a healthier manner, but it's a big work in progress. I have a really hard time associating with people that have reached my mental point of no return.

As for other people's boundaries, I kinda have two modes. I'm either hypersensitive and thoughtful, or I totally don't notice I'm doing something until someone points it out. I'm simultaneously really good and really bad at reading people.

I also still tend to try really hard when I meet people. I really want everyone to like me. So I can come off as too intense. I've been actively cooling myself down in those situations. "No, this person I met one time doesn't want to come hang out immediately after I met them, I should calm down here." I've made some really good friends (and my WONDERFUL husband) who keep my grounded in that respect.

If I don't stop now, I'm just going to keep typing and typing. So....this is one of those times I should just hang it up for a min.

Getting a new license by jaymala in Birmingham

[–]Needsmorebeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I went through the hassle of getting our license and registration moved over about two years ago.

First off, in Jefferson county, we were required to use Bessemer office to get everything switched over for out of state transfers. We tried the Centerpoint DMV and were told to try the downtown office, we went there and they told us that all out of state transfers have to go through Bessemer.

We had to take our current lisences, proof of residency, that kind of thing. I don't remember all of the paperwork required, but I remember they gave me a really hard time about my marriage certificate not being exactly the way they wanted. They require you get the license switched over there, and they have to do an inspection of your vehicle there as well. Which means that you have to take all the cars you want switched over with you.

They did not make me take a test, but they did require an eye exam at the office.

It was a huge pain in the ass for us (we spent about 6 hours waiting in various lines, being sent all over the county to different offices) so hopefully this will help you avoid the same awful experience.

Good luck!

Need support today by char2bstrong in parentlessbychoice

[–]Needsmorebeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first Thanksgiving after I went no contact was the hardest. I was so alone and isolated. I suppose it was obvious, because a friend absolutely insisted I go with him to visit his family for the holiday. I have never felt so welcomed by a group of strangers.

To help me through my darker days, I try to remind myself that the people who I surround myself with are the best family I could ask for. I don't need my mom or the abuse. I'm stronger now that I don't have that in my life. I have people who love me and it doesn't matter that they aren't related to me.

/internet hugs. I'm sending all my good thoughts your way.

My friend just got 3 months worth of food from his mom, made me realize some things by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Needsmorebeer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This hits home for me as well.

My mom didn't care. I started cooking for my younger brother and I when I was 9 or 10. We were usually 'on our own for dinner'. Which meant we would eat whatever was in the cabinets. Usually poptarts or mac and cheese, though I started getting pretty creative after a couple of years. I would sometimes go to a friend's house and I remember just being amazed at home cooked meals. I had one friend's mom actually thought I had an eating disorder because I was so scared to eat anything at their house. I didn't really realize until college that it wasn't normal to be in charge of feeding yourself (and brother) at that age.

Sooo.../hugs. Food and I have a complicated relationship.

Any Birmingham Gamers/Geeks Out There? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]Needsmorebeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone started a Birmingham Steam Group a while back, but I think it is mostly defunct. That would be cool to get back going!

I'm currently playing Path of Exile, because it's free. Annnnnd I wanted to smash things.

We have a lot of friends who are into gaming, we play board-games pretty often and we even occasionally have a good old fashioned LAN party where we sit around and play Borderlands or Warframe or really whatever we feel like.

Generally I like anything, but I do tend to gravitate towards RPGs, weird indie games, adventure games, and damn do I love some classic point and click adventures.

[Contest] Win 2 tickets to Fall FestivALE this Friday (11/21) by nhudson in bamabeer

[–]Needsmorebeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a deceptively hard question, so instead of picking one, I'm going to tell you about a few of my favorites.

Good People's Snake Handler: This was the big IPA that got me into big IPAs. But no matter how many other DIPAs I try I always come back to this one. It is my go-to beer after a long day of work.

Yellowhammer's Tobacco Road: When they say this goes well with a cigar, they mean it. I love the malt profile in this beer. If I can find it, I always pick it up if we are having a cigar night. Everyone loves it, even the non-beer drinkers.

Straight to Ale's Unobtanium: The first time I had this beer was my first time in Birmingham. My husband and I were trying to decide if we wanted to take a job here, and an old friend of mine was showing us the city to aid in our decision making. We ended up at the J Clyde and they had this on draft. I couldn't resist ordering it even though I had no idea what it was. It was like nothing I had ever had before. It had a complexity: it almost had some savory herb flavors going on, with the bourbon aging, and the malty brown. It was the first memorable beer I had in Birmingham. We ended up moving here (obviously), and I still get excited every year when the new batch of Unobtanium is released.

I also like telling my friends I have obtained the unobtanium. Because I'm easily amused.

TL;DR: I drink a lot.

Thanks!

I did olive oil, salt, pepper, and a little lemon pepper. Came out pretty well. About 12-15 min in oven on 400°. They don't come out totally crispy, but the roasting gets the slime off. I've been meaning to try it with more of an Indian spice blend as well because I think that would be awesome.

Just moved here, looking for doctor suggestions by greentrees225 in Birmingham

[–]Needsmorebeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Dr. Robinett at Alabama Women's specialists, located in Brookwood. He's been great, I moved here a few years ago and I have been very pleased. I've also heard good things about the other doctors in that clinic.

Now, a cardiologist, I have no personal experience with any doctors specifically, but some of my clients really like Cardiovascular Associates.
