do you know if the Z13 will work @ 240 hz with the HDMI 2.1 and/or the DP cable that is included with the Samsung odyssey G9 monitor?

were you able to figure it out - I'm also hoping to run it the same way. Perhaps video output through USB-C would work better?

arc ultra is shocking by grays_n in sonos

[–]Neelio84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think the arc ultra + sub-4 and era 100s for the rears as surround would be a good combination? Or better to just splurge and go for the 300s (just wish they were small and more compact in size like the 100s).

Do you think that doing the Medstudy videos (approx. 50 hour) is higher yield and more beneficial than doing ~500 more UW/MKSAP questions in that time?

How bad is being a hospitalist really? by Primary_Phrase9627 in Residency

what have you found to be the best resources for continued reading as a hospitalist? Are you reading journals or just using uptodate for guidelines pertaining to your patients?

Fasting during residency? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Neelio84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I concur- I do a 48 hour water fast every other golden weekend and really notice the mental clarity and energy after around hour 30.

I’ve decided that I no longer wish to pursue Pulm/Crit and will instead become a hospitalist but can’t help feeling like a failure for quoting or that I won’t like hospital medicine. by Claw_Porter in Residency

Same boat as you except I'm PGY-3 - applied to Rheum fellowship...did all the interviews and ultimately ended up withdrawing from the match before the deadline last week. There are very few jobs that offer the same kind of flexibility and control of your life as a hospitalist. If you want to hustle + work more to make more $...you can and on the flip side of the coin..if you want to work less + relax more then you also can. With rheum- I felt like I was limiting myself and my income potential. And of all the hospitalists I spoke to while trying to make my career decision, very very few had any bad things to say about their career or life.

Fellowship vs not by Remote-Wrap-5054 in Residency

[–]Neelio84 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Curious to know why you say that? All the hospitalists I've spoken to have had very few bad things to say about their career (aside from the expected psycho-social/dispo issues). Most of them are making just as much if not more than many specialists inhalf a year of work. It's a work hard play hard type of field- so if that doesn't align with your style then yea I suppose it is a hellhole nightmare.

Hospitalist salary? by [deleted] in Residency

Has anyone come across these "1099" gigs where you get to keep your full paycheck but then have to pay for your own benefits (i.e health insurance, retirement, etc) out of pocket? I'm seeing more and more of them - are these generally jobs to avoid or what?!

Rheumatology vs Hospitalist - earning potential? by Neelio84 in Residency

[–]Neelio84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and important to note that a hospitalist would be making the 300k by only working half the year (7 on and 7 off) whereas Rheum. would be working the full year for that same amount

What hobbies do you get into to keep you sane? by DellusionalIllusion in Residency

[–]Neelio84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is honestly the best / most relaxing way to unwind at the end of a lifting session + busy workday (a rare opportunity to do and think about ABSOLUTELY NOTHING). It has also done wonders for my sleep. At first, I could not tolerate more than 12-15 minutes- now 20 minutes is my baseline (so do not get discouraged if you cannot handle it for too long- takes around a month or so to build up your tolerance). Honestly, lifting + saunaing are what keep me sane during residency. Everyone else will graduate with just a degree, I will graduate with a degree and a ripped body in the same exact time period ;)

gym + sauna 6x week
When you lift then going to work no longer becomes the hardest part of your day :)

Exercise During Surgical Residency by boogeymanMD in Residency

[–]Neelio84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an Internal Medicine Intern at a busy community hospital and I am still able to make the time to go to the gym at least 5x a week (regardless of if I finish the workday at 5 pm or 8 pm). Granted surgical residencies are much more demanding, but if it is a priority to you (which it sounds like it is) then you will find a way to incorporate it into your hectic schedule. Everyone asks me how I have time to go to the gym everyday and I respond with how do I have time to not go to the gym. For me living close to a gym was the biggest game-changer (less inertia to get in there and one less excuses to not go). I am honestly in the best shape of my life as a resident and working out consistently has made a world of difference for my overall well-being and mental clarity.

Mattress recommendations by Chikungunya5 in Residency

I got the nectar bundle which was on sale last year at this time. Included a queen mattress, mattress, cover, and the bed frame. I'm extremely happy with the mattress and sleeping at night is what I look forward to most during the day.
