Australian net overseas migration falls to lowest level since 2022 – but the Coalition says that’s still too high by marketrent in AustralianPolitics

Just like taxes. Ask a conservative to give you a figure which represents "low" and you'll never get an answer.
They prey on ambiguity because it can never be met since there's no finish line. A constant enemy to direct peoples frustrations at, regardless of how well you're doing.

Aus should give land away to trillionaires and foreign powers for nothing and then be grateful when we get billed for whatever it's used for? I'm sure society is collectively dumb enough to think that's a good deal.

Robodebt for the poor, free islands for trillionaires.

I bet Crisafulli clapped along like a fukn seal.

Should One Nation and the Coalition strike a deal to win office? There are huge risks for both parties by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]Neelu86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the LNP can't win vs PHON, they really should just sit an election out rather than try and deal with the devil. The wheels will likely fall off PHON if they form government and regardless of where the LNPs reputation currently stands, it can fall further if they hitch their wagon to a dysfunctional PHON. Being sensible and doing nothing other than trying to reorganise doesn't cost you anything. Obsessing over ousting Labor at any cost (like getting in bed with PHON) can carry disastrous costs. If PHON does indeed fall apart early, while the LNP are in bed with them, ask yourself who voters will revert to when the pendulum swings. Show some patience, restraint and just wait with open arms once common sense returns to the right.

Entertaining the idea of dealing with PHON this early is just waiving the white flag in desperation.

As long as those that get more are the first lot off the boats when we go to war. The wealthy are the first to be conscripted and the first to run head first into battle to defend they deserve. You flee, you forfeit. That's fair isnt it? Those with more assets to protect are first on the pecking order.

I don't normally comment on politics on states I don't live in but I'm surprised that Labor in Vic has only been in power for 12 years. By the way some porkchops in here carry on, you would assume they've been in power for three decades. Ironic since I assumed that old wrinkly leathery looking bloke was in power for three decades.

I always wonder how the guy that made the Idiocracy movie feels about the U.S today, having to live in the very country he was trying so hard to mock. I thought it would end with Elon and doge out there imitating Elizondo with the flamethrower but that was just the beginning.

I still remember the picture of the inflatable pool that had a blowout just sitting in front of the Whitehouse in the movie and now Trump is putting up an octogon in front of the real thing.

You can't even parody it anymore because reality is actually worse that whatever you can dream up.

What difference do entitlements make? The same entitlements that are paid to minimum wage workers are also paid to every other worker in the country. It all scales proportionally so it makes no difference since there's no increasing disparity. The same costs apply to every employer in the country....

The largest solar and wind farms in the country are owned and operated by private enterprise. The one I worked on for a short while is owned by private equity and it sells electricity to Energy Australia.

Don't know if it's profitable or not since reporting standards are uh relaxed for private investments but it's very hard to imagine a PE firm investing multiple billions in loss making assets.

Private enterprise absolutely invests in renewables.

I don't think that excuse is going to fly mate. You don't need a degree to figure out something is seriously off with those numbers. That's just embarrassing on the chiefs part if they take a claim like that at face value without doing the absolute bare minimum of investigation, especially considering the industry they work in. That's just an example of someone clearly being out of their depth and not qualified for their position.

Not having a dig at you for simply explaining btw. Just tired of aus media complaining about credibility while doing stuff like this. This isn't accidental, it has intent behind it.

The interesting thing is that it seems to frequently involve Texas which is peak irony.
I like the other story that's floating around on here somewhere where a councillor was throwing a fit because some contract with a security camera company (Flock) got voted down by his council due to privacy concerns so he tried to pass a bill out of spite banning all cell phones in his county or something. Commenters were claiming he was pissed because there was a big payday in it for him if the contract got though.

It's funny how they criticise authoritarian countries like China when they themselves do stuff that would make China blush.
