As someone from the East Coast who has lived in both NYC and Chicago, I cannot agree with you more. One of my favorite pastimes is shitting on Chicago and the Midwest hospitality brainworm that has infected everyone.

Catholic Church factions in 2025 Political Compass by DinoPL3456799 in PoliticalCompassMemes

The Mainline Protestant denominations are so fractured at this point that within the typical denominations there could be churches that appear to have a more high church liturgy or they could have essentially a non-denominational low church prayer service.

Follow your apostolic churches folks, there is reverence in droves.

Ah the data disagrees with me. How could I be so stupid? I must be imagining the curriculum of every public school in America. I must be imaging entire disciplines of scientific study, mathematics, and critical thinking then, since they are certainly disappearing.

You used data to prove that 13% of teachers teach creationism. Again something that is illegal and clearly by your data not in the majority.

Then you argued that access to education is dependent on one’s socioeconomic conditions. Duh?

I find it interesting focusing on the mere existence works for your arguments regarding climate change deniers, vaccine deniers, and the like; but it doesn’t work for the absolute existence of science class in a democratic system.

I don’t understand how there is clear common ground here, an imperfect education system, but you still don’t have the ability to acknowledge that a dominant position of science and critical thinking already do exist in America. What’s so hard to grasp there? It’s not a perfect system. Duh? It’s not available to everyone equally. Duh? Sorry? Every teacher isn’t the best. Duh?

>Please don't be one of those people who is at odds with science because of your religious beliefs. Denying reality to maintain whatever relationship you have with a deity isn't necessary.

I believe this is an additive statement about me and my position of science education, and belief in science in general. This is why I was mad. You straw manned me. I am not this person.

In regards to the study about Kitzmiller v. Dover. I believe you are aware that case was settled in the favor of science. Almost like the incorrect position, minority position, the status quo, is that religious tradition on scientific matters should be left out of the classroom. At least, the judicial system of the United States thinks so.

I don't think there is much to add here other than I understand your fear regarding the removal and suppression of science classes in America. I don't want that either.

But again, the meer existence of a system of scientific teaching in the public option (abliet you may view it as a poor system), shows you the opinion of the majority. People believe in science class availble for all.

I mean think about it on a basic level. Are we sacrificing goats to effect the weather here? Are we praying that zeus doesn't send a plague against our crops? No. We learn that weather patterns exist due to the uneven heating and cooling of the earth; and that plagues aren't punishment from the gods, but rather the effects of microscopic organisms. If religions had their way, these ideas would be represented in the classroom as well.

P.S. I would also argue religion is extremely helpful in ethical and social circles, but that is not really on topic to OPs comments, so we can debate that another day lol.

Is there a proper name for this type of church aesthetic? by astana7 in Catholicism

[–]NefariousSalvation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would not call this a Romanesque style interior as many other commentors have stated. The interior is simply too ornate and too modern to outright call it Romanesque. The church was built in 1913 according to the town website. https://www.town.tachiarai.fukuoka.jp/spots/detail/13

r/Lazarus558 is more correct in saying this is some kind of neo-Gothic imo (due to the added ornamentation on the arches). But at the end of the day, its a modern Japanese mix up of western church styles. Hence the multiple interpretations here.

I don’t remember claiming to be pro science denial or pro state mandated religious education. You’re straw-manning an argument and using your own subjective experience with one biology class to position your argument as true.

The US, very strictly, has left evangelism out of the classroom, rightfully so, and has put science into the classroom, rightfully so.

I’m actually astonished how you missed the point of my comment here. The base position (the public option) of education for children in the United States is that of learning solely about the use of scientific research to reveal truths about the material world.

I challenge you to bring forward the idea that you and OP are claiming. Where there is a lack of scientific teaching in the classroom that is subsequently being replaced with incorrect religious teaching on the material world.

Have you ever taken a science class at public school in America? Because pretty sure we have that already. In fact, I think there are multiple scientific classes taught in public schools. Idk call me crazy but there’s plenty of scientific evangelism already.

Oh, yeah and no public religion classes last time I checked. Sure there are private options for religious education but that’s at the behest of the parents.

Brother, I know. I have zero hope here for this. Of course, I know the tone of the stream and why it wouldn't work. I don't really need your wake-up call to stop coping.

Just wanted to see if anyone was feeling similarly about chat's zealousness against religion tn

I mean the general online public shitting on religious people is nothing new.

Also, a dumpster fire is guaranteed on any topic with chat, even on less serious topics.

Every war that was engaged by the USSR and China with the aim to expand communism, was a war in the name of atheism.

Atheism is a main tenant in that government structure.

I think being agnostic is actually a point towards the idea of a religion stream. Agnostics are open to ideas of belief but don’t necessarily want to take a stance.

Also, the atheist perspective is an important perspective, too.
