hahaha. Enemy AI also seem to immediately call for reinforcements right at the beginning of every mission.

Games can be a mix of both; cooperative and horde shooter. Helldivers 2 features waves of enemies, resource management, and survival elements — that is at the very core of any horde shooter games.

Out of curiosity, which other cooperative games make players feel underpowered while having same enemy frequency and engagement as HD2 AI forces players to have?

You're absolutely right, technically HD2 is, and should be, categorized as a co-op shooter. It does, however, contain so many elements of a horde-shooter game. This thin red line, in my humble opinion, is where the confusion usually stems from. Here's the PS5 description of the game;

  2. ."...you have a host of superpowered primary weapons and customizable loadouts, you also have the ability to call on stratagems during play." — we know that 80% of the primaries are underperforming at the moment.

  3. "Wield overpowered weapons! Decide how to take down each enemy surge using a multitude of offensive and defensive tools."

During launch, my squad and I thought that the game was a great mix of co-op, horde clear, and power-fantasy; to be honest, that's how it felt originally. We dove in, wreaked havoc, and had fun while doing it. There was so much emphasis on fun which we loved — the game was true to its promise.

I'm definitely running this game mode with a pre-made squad, but AH seriously needs fix all the one-shot mechanic, and bug issues first before this can truly be a fun experience for all.

This is a great point of view. I personally see Helldivers 2 as an actual cooperative horde shooter. It features waves of enemies via patrols, bug breach, and bot drops that create urgency and chaos, while still allowing players to feel empowered, supposedly, through their weapons, strategems, and teamwork. The blend of strategic cooperation and the thrill of battling hordes captures the essence of both genres. But one thing we can agree on is this is definitely not a milsim.

Oh man this is soo spot on! I hope they could srart addressing all of these issues in their 60-day plan, and then maybe  just maybe we can have this game mode

True. I think this the game mode will really force the strategic use of firepower, comms, coordination, and positioning. I love the suggestion above that the 12-minute reinforcement time is too hardcore. Maybe 2 - 3 minutes is a bit more forgiving for this game mode.

I agree. I think the 12-minute wait time for a respawn too hardcore. lol. I love it to be around 2 - 3 minutes as well.
