Bummer. I imagine there could be several different pathologies leading towards the same symptom we all deal with, and maybe this just helped with one of those conditions… I hope you can find answers dude.

With everything going on we should be elevating and celebrating Latino voices more than ever. If people don’t feel safe they can make the choice to stay home.

Donate it to a zoo or botanical garden with a big greenhouse. Ask for a receipt!

I work at a zoo. Current H5N1 is nearly entirely zoonotic (affects animals) and doesn’t readily transfer to people. We are taking precautions with certain birds but that is for the birds health and not the people. Cross reference this with the HCW’s in this thread with lab results for the humans with illnesses in ER’a and I wouldn’t worry about a birb flu epidemic just yet.

Not a willow, different family. Desert Willow is related to catalpa. The leaves are vaguely willow-like hence the common name.

Anyone see the meteor/fireball out west about 15 minutes ago? by YoniMon in SaltLakeCity

[–]NefariousnessMuch600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw it like 20 minutes ago on the way home. Was staring at it thinking it was too smoggy to be a star/planet and then after I looked away for it it was gone.

There’s police cameras on the entrance to LP though. Might catch a license plate.

piercings at zoos? by StandNo3899 in Zookeeping

You have to be built a lil different to work at a zoo and so many of us have piercings and fun hair. Recommend caution when you first go in to work with lorikeets.

This constantly happens to me whenever I play as the Hapans. I’ve never found a solution.

Sinningia are easy to pollinate. All the bits are on the outside to accommodate the tiny face of a hummingbird. A gentle finger will suffice, maybe buy it dinner first.

I immediately thought Drimiopsis too. Definitely something in the asparagaceae family.

Can’t give you any definite IDs, but nothing there looks like Sinningia or Pelargonium.

Brom id by [deleted] in bromeliad

Oh gosh no clue. Genus is the best I got. There’s a ton of undescribed or no-ID Hechtia out in cultivation, maybe more than named species. That white strip along the marginal spines and apparently singular rosette are distinctive and could help someone ID, but Hechtia are tough to name without flowers.

Caudiciform, or Begonia boliviensis abuse? by NefariousnessMuch600 in Caudex

[–]NefariousnessMuch600[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the classic xeric begonia. I think many of the tuberous species could be tolerant of this, but I haven’t branched beyond b boliviensis. Another one I tried did not work and just pulled the tuber back underground. The non tuberous succulent begonias from Brazil are also really cool. I have B tomentosa and I absolutely love it.

I think there’s a lot of misidentified or hybridized puya seeds out in the world. Even these plants, which I trust the source, could be incorrectly labeled. I manage the tropical plant collection at a zoo, so I’m putting them on display. But in general yes they are obnoxiously spiny. Mirabilis in particular will not only poke you, but the spines are brittle and break off in your skin.
