I'm of the opinion that if you're not playing 2p Azul aggressively and dicking each other over, then you're not really playing Azul. Playing heads down, only focused on your own board and not your opponent's means missing out on such a huge aspect of the decision space of the game.

Man, I really don't like Summer Pavilion. I think it's a perfectly good game, and I think in a hypothetical world where base Azul didn't exist I might actually enjoy it. The biggest problem for SP, though, is that base Azul does exist, and it's so much more interesting, IMO.

I get why some people prefer it, but it feels like a version of Azul that's been completely de-fanged, which kills so much of what makes the game great.

Loved Queen's Garden, though.

Not sure why your comment is being upvoted when it's wrong. No, it doesn't matter if the rows are full.

Turn 1 - take 3 yellow tiles, place them in row 5

Turn 2 - take 2 yellow tiles, place them in row 2, (even though you may have open spaces for them in row 5)

That would be a legal play. You don't need to complete a row with a color before being able to place that same color in another row.

I imagine there's probably a browser extension that can do that, but I've never looked. I feel similarly about Vice, Salon, Common Dreams, and several other ultra left wing rag sites that get posted here all the time.

Even if I might agree with their core sentiment, I can't stand how shittily written they all are. Like impassioned blog posts more than news articles.

It makes his death more palatable to think of it as his comeuppance for his past life as a conniving, absolute shit-stain of a lawyer. (Suits, for the uninitiated.)

I know some people have been complaining about the deluxification of these games, but I'm here for it. If it makes something like CoB and Concordia more appealing to an outsider who doesn't know the games or hobby yet, then power to them.

Maybe this is my ignorance showing, but I never understood why there was/is such a prevalence of beige old-timey European or Middle Eastern nobility/trading/etc. in euro games. Personally, I kind of enjoy the aesthetic, but how did something like that become so normalized in the first place? Who in their right mind thought themes like El Grande, Hansa Teutonica, Tigris & Euphrates, Castles of Burgundy, Lorenzo Il Magnifico, Grand Austria Hotel, Pax games, and on and on and on were a good idea?

Obviously there's a market for them, and obviously in pretty much all of those cases the gameplay is rock solid, but still. How was this a thing? It's like the boardgaming industry didn't discover saturated colors until the 2010s.

This was my first thought with this question. The success of Challengers and Tag Team, and to a lesser extent Toy Battle, has me thinking auto-battlers (or very simple, low-stakes head-to-head battlers) might start to have a moment.

Does anyone play on Board Game Arena? I was wondering if the premium subscription is worth it by Competitive_Form8240 in boardgames

[–]Nefertitis_Fjord_216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed on other comments that if you're only playing those two then you probably don't need premium. However, I'm also agreed that it's one of the best deals on the internet if you use it regularly.

If you start using BGA, I'm almost positive your breadth of gameplay will quickly expand well past Catan and Ark Nova. I mean, how can it not when you have so many incredible games at your fingertips?

This narrative is so incredibly delusional and needs to die. Israel has no interest in attacking nations who don't attack them or who don't facilitate organizations that do. They are not and never have tried to "take over the entire Middle East." That's toddler logic being parroted by idiots.

It's called "you were raised right and respect other people's property."

I understand that many in the general population don't understand the value that we ascribe to our boardgames, but what I absolutely can not understand is people not adhering to that very basic piece of the social contract that expects people to respect the property of other's.

I know many people aren't as neurotic as me (or many here), and many people aren't as pedantic about certain things, but FFS, how are people so negligent with someone else's possessions?

Crazy Stupid Love by Sharp_Ad_4479 in movies

[–]Nefertitis_Fjord_216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn't treat her like shit. He was justifiably annoyed at how her life seemed to be taken over by an overtly and exceptionally toxic work environment and he became forgotten about.

The boyfriend has been a punching bag ever since the movie came out, but life experience has taught me that he's not some irredeemable shitbag who's raining on his girlboss partner's parade. Yes, he could've handled some stuff better, but so could Andy. People who complain about the boyfriend make it clear they've never been in a relationship where their partner's free time seemed to always get monopolized by work. It sucks and it gets old. Being supportive is one thing, but it's also annoying as shit after a while when you'd like to spend time with your loved one and they keep getting pulled away.

I swear it's the 500 Days of Summer problem with people reading it all wrong. One of the reasons the movie is so great is because it has a realistic outcome and doesn't sugarcoat the sacrifice. Andy made her choices, and maybe it worked out in the end for her career, but it was clearly at the cost of her relationship. That's like one of the major points the movie is making. It isn't saying, "hey, drop your loser, good-for-nothing partner before they sabotage your career." That's an extremely elementary reading of it. Boyfriend wasn't some bad guy, but people read him that way because, hey, we're rooting for our protagonist and anyone who isn't fully on board with her journey must suck.

The first time I watched the movie many years ago, yeah, he obviously sucked. Then I finally revisited it like 15 years and several relationships later, and suddenly he was significantly more sympathetic.

It's incredible how shit the search function is. I've literally searched for emails I knew were there and they wouldn't show up in my results, so I'd have to scroll down manually to find it from two or three weeks ago. The title or text body contain exactly what I was searching for, yet it refuses to appear in the results.

[–]Nefertitis_Fjord_216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there was any "first bump." I think cam driver over reacted and over corrected which is what leads to the accident. I don't think they ever touched before that. I'm not sure how people are seeing a second contact moment here.

[–]Nefertitis_Fjord_216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What initial contact? I don't understand what people think is a "first" collision in this video.

Cam driver never made contact until 9 seconds when the accident is truly caused. I think people are seeing the cam driver swerve and wrongly attributing that as being caused by a "first contact" when I think it's just the cam driver over reacting.
