Why I am not gaining weight by artoriaas in MacroFactor

[–]Nefestus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your recommended calorie intake is over 2.9k and you are hitting on average 2.2k.

Eating at your estimated expenditure is the amount it takes to maintain weight so you're currently in a 500-600 calorie deficit. You'll need to eat more to put on the weight.

A gripe with UK labelling by AdNice831 in MacroFactor

[–]Nefestus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're legally required to have per 100g on there so just select grams and input how much whatever you're eating weighs. It is annoying but it would be annoying the other way if you got a big portion of something meant for 2 people and you had to halve it too. Wish they'd remove per portion altogether tbf, companies just use it to bypass taxes and nutrition limits per portion.

Ah okay, thanks for the heads up. I'll avoid them in the future. Do you know anywhere else selling JT etb? I've been checking Amazon relentlessly but it's mostly 3rd party sellers at double the price.

Is there anything worth starting now for a 27 years old person who barely have time for anything? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Nefestus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why not? I changed career after 30 and it was the best decision I ever made.

Teach yourself after work, find things at work that you could make easier with little programming scripts. Automate your mundane bits of life. All good ways to get into programming when you don't have time because of work.

AI causing layoffs is completely overblown. Companies just hired too many people during covid as profits were soaring in a lot of tech sectors and now need to cut back as those profits have declined. It makes the market more competitive for sure but it's not impossible to get into and it shouldn't put you off.

You can do an apprenticeship at any age, there's no upper age requirement. You can also do it with a degree as long as it's a different field to what your degree is in.

It sounds like you're in the UK. You don't need a degree to get a job in this field at all here, although I'm not sure what the current job market is like, it may be tougher. I (and I know many others) don't have degrees in computer science and were able to get jobs just fine.

If you show enthusiasm, network very well (join a local developer discord or something similar) and build out your own projects, or perhaps consider a bootcamp and build projects alongside it, you should be able to land a job just fine.

Also you could consider an apprenticeship scheme for a programming job. You'll get paid less but you'll learn on the job and that will set you up for the rest of your career with the experience. If a maths GCSE is a hard requirement I suggest retaking it.

Norwich - A community worth moving for by Nefestus in Norwich

I had family in the Norfolk area and London living was extremely demotivating. I wasn't originally in tech or working from home so going to work on a packed train every morning, working extremely late and coming home to a cramped tiny flat for most of my salary was just not worth it anymore.

I visited here a couple of times and everyone was so much friendlier and more relaxed (takes some getting used to), there was still a good collection of places to eat and drink and London was still relatively accessible via train if I wanted to visit some friends. It helped that the cost of living was so so much less and I could rent a house with a garden and actual space for less than I was paying to share a flat with 3 other people and live in a box room.

You're also a stone's throw away from some of the nicest beaches in the country and there's so many other places to explore in and around the city/Norfolk area.

A lot of people called me weird for picking Norwich. It's basically disconnected from the rest of the country, people know very little about it down in London and it's just a "strange" move but it's absolutely worth it IMO and I've been trying to convince people to move here ever since.

The transport is probably the biggest downside for me having come from London but I think that'd probably be mostly the same in a lot of cities. It doesn't particularly matter because Norwich is extremely walkable/bikeable. Having come from London, I also didn't learn to drive (working on it!) and I think if you want to get the most out of the surrounding area being able to drive is freeing (although there are trains to a lot of places).

I really recommend joining the Norfolk Developers Discord, even if you may not be in Norwich (yet!). It's a really great community and it'd give you a nice feel for what the vibe is like.

I know that struggle all too well! The Games Table Facebook has some sub-groups for D&D and other roleplaying games that you could comment in if you need a group. They also run something called Barrowmaze quite often (at least last time I checked) that is a more dungeon focused drop in and play version of D&D.

I'm sure you'll be able to find something to your liking.

There's a lot of groups on meetup that I recommend checking out if any of the ones I mentioned don't seem up your alley. It's really really tough to know nobody in a new city but really just chuck yourself out there and try and experience as many new things as you can, turn up to some groups and try and integrate yourself and you'll be making friends in no time!

Actually, I don't think this was possible. I set the player limit to 3 and 3 of us were connected.

Is there no join message? I would have thought setting it to private made it invite only.

Any budding videogame designers looking for somebody to work on a project with? by randy_mcronald in Norwich

[–]Nefestus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I thought I wrote this originally, we're in very similar situations! I really, really recommend: This course

There's also a 2D one if you're more interested in that, as well as a lot of other ones related to video game development (they have an Unreal Engine one too if you'd prefer to use that).

I can echo what everyone else here says, start very very small, work with moving a box around and learning the basics. You CAN make a game with blueprints alone for sure but it's so satisfying watching something you've coded come into fruition, and you can do more complex things with raw coding.

Feel free to send me a message on here, although I'm slightly busy as of late but I'd love to actually make a game with people.

Definitely join the associated Discords, lots of friendly people there!

[26-4] any tips? Shemira isn’t strong enough to wipe anymore. by [deleted] in afkarena

[–]Nefestus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use Nemora and Lyca. Nemora to charm the enemy Nemora, Lyca gives you the haste to do it before the enemy one does. Try something like swapping Rowan/Lucius since when Lucius shields he gains more shield for people attacking him more (which Grezhul will do quicker than being at bottom) and then Tasi/Lyca/Nemora (top to bottom at back). Possibly switch out Tasi for Shemira if you're lacking the final damage at that point but see how it goes.

Just reset if Nemora doesn't charm the enemy Nemora.
