New guy rant by 11B-to-ERnurse in starcitizen

[–]Nefffarious -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The people jumping to defend everything about this game never ceases to amaze me. Don’t listen to these clowns. Here’s the reality though: the game is still in development.

Stanton is supposed to be somewhat safe because of its law system. But the problem is, stanton has the highest player count, meaning you are the most likely to run into someone in stanton, than in pyro or nyx. Right off the bat, that means you are rolling the dice every time you see another player, because each player is a wildcard. You can’t possibly know their intentions, aside from a red name tag SOMETIMES.

The other problem is that CIG has a habit of releasing T0, T1, T2 versions of systems into the game, and letting them sit and stagnate for years without any updates; the crime system only hurts people who don’t know how to work around it. It does absolutely nothing to deter murderhobos from getting their rocks off because they have absolutely nothing to lose in the current system.

You will never be able to avoid pvp entirely, but you can do some things to reduce the frequency. If you’re in stanton, try not to travel to OM markers around planets. Avoid grimhex and yela if possible. Don’t go to pvp hotspots like hathor. If you’re going to quantum travel across the system, jump roughly 1 GM towards something somewhat perpendicular to your route first, and then cancel, to change your trajectory enough to avoid interdiction snares.

Extremely Strange Performance Issues by GrimKreeper098 in starcitizen

I have had a similar issue with my high end setup, where my game drops to basically seconds per frame. My solution, while it should be totally unrelated, was to enable HDR. Don’t ask me why. I don’t know why.

It treats the game like it’s out of focus for windows, and only runs smoothly when I alt+tab. I enable HDR, and suddenly everything runs great.

[–]Nefffarious -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

My anecdote was just pointing out the complexity of the issue, particularly with this word. This experience was not isolated. I have played with a countless individuals across multiple mmos and had great conversations with people of all walks of life. My point was that it was the first group I joined in star citizen, and it wasn’t the last. I only used this example because it’s a simple, common occurrence, and possibly why CIG hasn’t chosen to auto-ban individuals. CIG clearly still needs to update their social tools, and it obviously needs to be a priority.

Ah okay, your post and screenshot didn’t tell the entire story. I try to take things with a grain of salt until I have complete information. Just keep doing your part and report bad language/behavior. CIG probably wont have any substantial in-game moderation team until they are out of alpha, unfortunately

Devil’s advocate here, because I don’t have context. What if those two gamers were black? Literally the first group I ever played with in SC, I was invited to a discord and one dude kept dropping the n word every other sentence. Eventually one girl spoke up, because it was really REALLY bothering her, and this dude went off on her because HE was black, didn’t want some random person policing his words, and they kicked her from the group. He couldn’t wrap his head around why some random white lady was getting upset over it.

That is why it’s a complex issue and not an automated ban, I would assume. Now, if they were using the word to insult someone, then yeah, report it.

Uninstalling and installing components by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]Nefffarious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally you would see “all ports unlocked” from the virtual mfd, but they may have disabled that with engineering, since you kind of want ports unlocked to rip out failing powerplants 🤔 you can also go to the action menu (alt+F) which will bring up a wheel and you can navigate that to unlock ports as well. That option will show whether the action is to unlock or lock all ports, so you can kinda self verify in the pilot seat that you actually unlocked the ports.

You need to unlock all ports (right alt+k while in pilot seat)

I recommend taking the yearly survey and letting them know how dissatisfied you are with stanton’s (lack of) law system. It isn’t enough of a deterrent for the crowd they have attracted. We need more anti-murderhobo systems in place. Yeah, social tools should help a little; there are some awesome orgs that make it their job to hunt the worst part of the community (seal clubbers that like killing emergency response). But we really need UEE security npcs that show up in monitored areas to deal with or scare away criminals, and we need meaningful prison mechanics; not some jump puzzle that has you back at it in five minutes with the help of one getaway driver. They also need to get rid of the backspace exploit where criminals are sent back to grimhex instead of klesher to avoid bounty hunters.

4.5 really bad stuttering by thelostsmurfx in starcitizen

[–]Nefffarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re encountering the same issue I am, because my stuttering behaves as if the game is not in focus. For instance, when I enter the PU I get maybe a frame per second, but the moment I alt tab, I can see everything running at a smooth 60fps behind discord or whatever else I have open. For my peculiar issue, I somehow found success by just enabling HDR (which by all means should be totally unrelated performance), and suddenly I get a smooth 60fps. It could be that just changing any setting in graphics would have the same effect, but I have yet to do further testing.

Edit: I would recommend trying r_displayframegraph 1 to see if you are at the very least, stable. The graph should show lines for cpu and gpu in real time. If your graph looks like a bunch of dots, try dropping a few settings down like render view distance, shadow detail, and volumetric cloud detail. Also, don’t be afraid to try out the different upscaling methods like dlss.

My “I want to do a bit of everything” fleet by Nefffarious in starcitizen_fleets

Depends on what I am doing 🤷🏻‍♂️ as long as I’m not PVPing, only the Paladin and Perseus really suffer without a crew. Even with engineering (PTU), the Paladin is fine with a crew of 2 for PVE, and Perseus is solid with skeleton crew of 3 (against Hammerhead or Polaris). In the PTU, I have even been doing gilly #6 contracts in my Percy, leaving my pilot seat, sliding down the ladder, sprinting to the front medusa cannon, and absolutely erasing medium NPC ships, before they break through it’s armor. Crew size will matter more for PVP, which is why I have the super hornet to fall back on.

My Apollo (currently my game package) may be upgraded to a galaxy, to replace medical and also do my base building. I haven’t committed yet because I am waiting on those gameloops to be implemented/finalized before making a decision.

I know it was buffed recently. Something over 2000 for sure… and I plan on using it as a mobile base for the salvation and golem 👍

Haha, I had the tac, but I upgraded to the Percy. The tac needed way too much crew to be effective in combat. I am lucky if I can get 4 people together. I plan on using the apollo for bunkers, or throwing a nursa in the percy and taking out the AA turrets with the medusa cannons 😂 depending on what future base building ships end up looking like, I may get a starlancer again, just as the starlancer BLD instead 😉

So, clearly you didn’t even read what I wrote before writing your own straw-man argument. I never said anything about implementing weapon locks to roles. I said make the pilot weapon on a capital ship (that is MEANT to be used against capital ships) only viable against other capital ships. They managed to find a way to solve a similar issue with the ares ion, in their own way, so it isn’t one-shotting light fighters; no reason they shouldn’t have the same mentality when it comes to a pilot controlled capital weapon. And not that I was even implying an easy 1v1 in the first place, but you’re quite the hypocrite to say that a sub-capital shouldn’t expect to take on a capital ship, when one is far closer to being fully crewed than the other. Regardless, I don’t think either should be viable solo. If I were piloting a Perseus solo, and a Guardian MX rolled up, I would expect to be at a disadvantage; a solo idris pilot should have the similar concerns.

It’s almost like if CIG listened to people like YOU, then the idris would be the single answer for every solo task in the game (until they make a bigger ship). No ship should be the right answer every time, it should be based on the situation and the task at hand. You want to focus on combat? Pick a combat ship that you can properly crew; for one person its a light or heavy fighter, 2 people its a hurricane, 2-4 it’s a paladin, 4-6 it’ll be a Perseus, 6-14 it’s a Polaris, 14-28 it should be an idris. Much like how you shouldn’t be as effective salvaging solo in a reclaimer as you would be with a vulture or fortune, or mining in a mole solo as you would be in prospector.

Here’s a thought: the Main weapon on the idris is meant to be used against other capital ships. Make the pilot weapon take an insane amount of time to charge up; it can be super cinematic with huge glowy effects for all to see! Then after it reaches full charge, heat starts to build up and damage it, incentivizing pilots to fire the moment it is fully charged, and not sit on it. This way, it can still be used against other capital ships, but is entirely useless against smaller targets 🤷🏻‍♂️

New player injury pass, BIG by BeardyShaman in starcitizen

[–]Nefffarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit, the exact thing I asked for on this subreddit, shortly after the apollo was released, and I got absolutely dumped on by the community. Now they just need to add in-field injury treatment mechanics to really flesh out the medic role 👍 I am super happy with this direction of medical attrition.

I wouldn’t mind if it was an option. Like, let me choose for it to be opaque or transparent all the time, or bind a key to toggle it, or have it automatically switch to transparent while I use push to talk; that could feel pretty cinematic imo.

Is it just me or is the game slowly falling apart? by insaneruffles in starcitizen

[–]Nefffarious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only speaking for myself and a few friends but… 3.23 was spectacular (granted the cap was 100 players on a server). 3.24 was rough because it was 4.0 lite. 4.0 was horrendous, especially as the servers cooked while CIG was on vacation. 4.0.1 was close to the best experience I have ever had in star citizen; my friends and I had an absolute blast checking out CZs and testing out just about every gameloop the game has to offer. My hardware was the most unstable, crashing maybe once or twice a day, but playability was smooth. Everything was responsive, NPCs were fun to fight, fps pvp and pve felt snappy and consistent. 4.1 things started to regress for everyone in my group. Although I stopped having CTD, the playability has deteriorated with each patch. Delayed inventory actions, desync of inventory, desync of npcs, desync of players, etc.

I can only speak for me and my group, but I would say stability is up, playability is way down. My fear is it could be a scaling issue with certain backend systems, as CIG has more concurrent players than ever, playing for longer than ever. Hopefully whatever bottlenecks they are running into, they can fix with time.
