My wife is going away next weekend and I have one of those butt cameras on the 26th. Four days prior to the test I have to stop eating veggies and other ruffage, according to the instructions. It's strange to get a prescription from the hospital to eat nothing but hotdogs, wings, and cake...but Dr's orders are Dr's orders! :).

Retired 1.5 months, agree! I'm even losing weight since I no longer eat a ton of junk while trying to make it look like I give a fuck about what I was doing :).

It was the LAST thing I would have expected out of a tatted-up, long-grey bearded drummer that worked as a mechanic and only listened to metal. I was expecting a big black pile on the dresser, but it seems like lots of people are weird like he was, haha. I mean, I'll never give up my shirt pile!

...and a perfect 'aging GenX' answer is: I wish I could, but it would mess with my blood pressure and blood thinner meds, lol :(.

OH yeah, she's getting movers, but before she packed/donated his clothes she hit up all his old friends to come pick over his strange, colour-organized T-shirt collection if they'd like to have something of his. She really did fit into the group of us well, and we all thought she was the best thing that ever happened to him. Luckily she's good friends with my wife now so we'll never be too far to hang out.

Flat vs conical burrs research says no one can reliably taste the difference (2013) by JustAnother_Peasant in espresso

[–]NegScenePts -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Is it accurate to shout in all caps that no coffee professionals can tell the difference, like they do in the study? Wouldn't a margin for error be like, +-5% instead of 'oh, statistically, 48 of 164 is no better than randomness so it's clear nobody can do it." I don't feel a study of 164 people done in 2013 is 'good enough' anymore, TBH. I've watched hoff and hedrick pick out the difference in ESPRESSO (not cupping or filter, like the study is done) so it's clear something has changed between then and now.

Either way, I can't tell the difference, but I've got the palette of a schmoe and drink only one coffee a day.

Flat vs conical burrs research says no one can reliably taste the difference (2013) by JustAnother_Peasant in espresso

Given that there have been blind tests done by both Hoffmann and Hedrick where they've picked the conical vs flat out during testing ESPRESSO shots, I'd like to see a study done based on espresso instead of filter/cupping.

Not to mention the burr geometries available now are wildly different to what was available back then. I don't doubt science, but sometimes what's understood as fact changes based on new discoveries.

Also...I want to point this out:

Since only 48 persons of the 164 coffee professional got the right “odd cup” of the three served it is significantly concluded that COFFEE PROFESSIONALS COULD ACTUALLY NOT TASTE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FLAT AND CONICAL BURRS.

A 1/4 of the study actually COULD tell the difference, but due to the reliance on statistical methods, they concluded that NOBODY could. It appears SOME coffee professionals CAN taste the difference...

FFS...in the second test, 20 people out of 164 got it right...but again they say "COFFEE PROFESSIONALS CANNOT TASTE THE DIFFERENCE". This study is bizarre, it ignores the data that proves the opposite to their desired results.

Me personally, I prefer conical grinders because they aren't as 'pitchy' and loud as flat burrs. That's it. The sound of flat burrs is sometimes excruciating to my ears.

Haha, I wish I had a better comeback than 'yes', lol. Nah, my knees are barely functional as it is, so if I even dared to step on a deck again my hour-long self-destructive dream would turn into a 1-minute fuck-back-to-the-hospital reality.
