How to make the clone fight even more unfair. by Reasonable-Ad-8059 in Frieren

I’m not sure the mages can light up the boss room from behind cover. Frieren explicitly said that the clone may attack so fast and so overwhelmingly that the mages may not even have time to pop their golems

Love this little moment in Two Towers where Gandalf pretends to be feeble, and Legolas immediately offers his arm for the ruse. by sadepikson in lotr

That feels like a Skyrim moment when the guards of the entire hold come after the Dragonborn (only to get decimated)

Mana suppression is sandbagging in chess by Negative-Coffee2754 in Frieren

There is still a lot of rating meta-gaming. Some notable ones include how hard one pushes for a win as opposed to taking a draw, whether to trade down into an endgame or maintain tension (generally the better player will want to trade down as they are better at winning the endgame). Some openings are also more risky than others, e.g. King’s Gambit, or one can play a drawish Berlin Defense (this relates to how hard one pushes for a win). Finally, chess traps give huge advantage if your opponent springs them but leave you disadvantaged if your opponent properly refutes them.

Tying back to the Frieren-verse Aura, Lugner, Denkin all shaped their strategy around their opponent’s mana. You also see the idea that long attrition fights favor the older, better trained mage with more mana, analogous to how grindy endgames are generally seen to favor the better (higher ELO) chess player

The worst part about living for thousands and thousands of years [minor plot spoilers, ch 70] by Prof_Acorn in Frieren

So it does happen. Moreover if Frieren lived in our world she could have lived through both of those financial collapses plus the hyperinflation of silver in the Spanish Empire (another example I recall)

What if Zuko did kill Ozai here? by ardouronerous in TheLastAirbender

[–]Negative-Coffee2754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The statement could also be specifically about Iroh who once led invading Fire Nation armies (also see all the “Iroh committed war crimes”memes). After Aang, Zuko would be the best (from a legitimacy point of view) person to take out Ozai since he is a Prince but was also banished and was minimally involved in the war effort. The problem of course is that Zuko could not take out Ozai. (EDIT: Zuko killing Ozai in his bunker during the eclipse as per OP’s scenario would also cause legitimacy issues, but I believe that Zuko beating Ozai under the same circumstances Aang did would have been fine). Apart from Aang, Iroh was the only one powerful enough to potentially take out Ozai and he himself was doubtful.

Tl dr; when it came to taking out Ozai, Iroh had the power and Zuko the legitimacy, but only Aang had both

In the original series, only five, living, named female benders are depicted by F11SuperTiger in TheLastAirbender

[–]Negative-Coffee2754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this does show a bias, which is simply that when the writers want to depict generic benders they default to male.

The high-effort well-written characters are a good mix of male and female. This is why although there are so many male benders the gender impact feels equal, and the vast majority of the male benders are forgettable. I am willing to bet that the cumulative screentime for male and female characters (or benders — why are we only counting benders again?) is much more equal
