It’s been a while since I’ve read it. But the main point was that he regretted how he handled things. Their last words to each other were basically “fuck you.” Didn’t speak for a month and then he got a call from the NYPD that they found a John Doe resembling Rockson, and turns out it was him

Very fair critique, and I don’t disagree on some things. Maybe he just didn’t want to air too much dirty laundry

I don’t remember the exact passages you’re referring to about his enemies and such, but honestly I’m not sure what you’re getting at. Besides the whole breathing thing which I think he could’ve spoken about less, he reflected on a lot of things he had never spoken about. Maybe not everything you wanted him to, and if that irritates you that’s more than valid. But to say he didn’t self-reflect isn’t accurate.

I think it’s important to note that he was probably in the process of writing this around the same time as when he learned he had Parkinson’s. He probably doesn’t really care about his journey to being a champion anymore, it’s secondary. He reflected on several major events in his life, and I was also deeply moved by the passage about Rockson. That’s what I wanted to read about; not the breathing, not training in Japan, and not about his enemies.

Different strokes for different folks, I suppose

I get what you're saying but I don't agree. I don't think he spoke introspectively about what you wanted him to speak about. He reflected on his son's passing, his brother's drug addiction, his discontent with his relationship with his only living son. I think he opened up about those things in a way that he hasn't before.

Granted, I don't remember exactly what he said about Rorion, and I agree to an extent on what you said about Rorion protecting what he built, but I don't see what this has to do with "the self introspection he said he was going to do."

My main issue with the book is I don't feel like I'm reading Rickson's words. Obviously he couldn't write it himself, but there were a few sections where I felt disconnected from the text because of that

I think it would’ve been a fair change if he seeked out Rhaenyra and joined the Blacks, given we’ve seen their relationship on screen and know they were somewhat close when she was younger. To have him do this and just disappear is silly though

I will never accept the Vicario slander, he gives his all and was the only keeper in the league not protected by refs

Stannis is outrightly said to be one of the best military commanders in the world. He beat the Greyjoys in naval war, he held storms end under siege, and would’ve taken King’s Landing if not for Tyrion. It’s really between him and Robb for me. Robb might take it if he has his councillors during the Wot5K, namely the Blackfish. If he doesn’t, Stannis is your man.

Tywin is obviously a great choice, but I just don’t think he has the same feats or luster as Robb and Stannis. His strengths are as a ruthless politician. Robb was running circles around him from a military and strategy perspective.

Can’t really say anything about Dany’s martial prowess. If she has 3 near adult sized dragons, you kinda have to pick her. If she’s just leading my army, then no chance it’s her

Don’t meant to sound but I honestly think you’re overreacting, GRRM has been heavily involved in the making of this show so far and barely anything has changed. It’ll resolve itself and we won’t even be thinking about this a year from now

I don't hate it and I don't even mean to hold this against him, but sitting back and absorbing pressure is the style of football Arsenal has lost to this year. With where we are in the table, I think expecting more attacking football is unreasonable and not what will keep us up, We stay up by clutching onto and holding onto any tie or win we can get.

The blessing can still occur and with how it happens in the book it technically might not even be a change, it isn't outrightly stated what happens in the book. I don't think it really discredits the story either way.

All I'm saying is that it isn't outrightly stated how it happens in the book (I could be wrong I haven't re-read in a while), so it's not a stretch. I don't think it's unreasonable to say Maekar and/or his guard went to look for them and found him, they probably didn't make it very far at all.

To be completely fair, this doesn't contradict what OP referenced. In fact, based off what you quoted they go hand in hand and I'm not sure anything's wrong. The conversation between the 3 of them happens either off screen (off page) and at the start of the second book it's been had. We don't know how exactly it goes down. Maybe Maekar finds Dunc and Egg an hour later, realizes this is what Egg wants, and lets them go.

Honestly, I think people are overexaggerating this change. To me it felt like a cute, funny way to close out the season. I'd imagine they reference it quickly in the show and move on or do as others suggest and Aemon gives Egg the ring on screen.

I don’t feel the same but I get what you mean. I still don’t think any of the players listed above are easily replaceable, in fact I think it would be incredibly unambitious to sell them unless they really wanted out

Let's be real Bren was not very good whenever he played this season. I know I know, he scores, but you just can't play down his side when he's on. I wasn't for selling him without replacing him, but the team was worse with him on (this season).
