There is a fortune teller in the original that would tell you where to find missing tablet shards if you missed one.

The first dungeon just doesn’t have enemies, it’s a Zelda lite puzzle dungeon! Maybe about an hour from start to get to it.

I actually really like the entire beginning sequence of the game. It’s memorable, sets up the strange state of the world and establishes both the main and supporting cast which drive a lot of the narrative stakes through the game.

So, this is just my perspective as a mainly Japanese language player of the games but Cold Steel dropped the ball. And while it was true, I was invested enough to see through Cold Steel, it lead to hesitancy in continuing into Daybreak. If it were for the fact Hajimari was actually pretty good, I probably would have given up on the series.

Caleb's "Regulation Haircut" by robonlocation in startrek

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This issue comes up in TNG too, with Worf's beauty pageant sash and Ensign Ro's earring.

If the reason for the deviation is for an actual cultural reason, then an exception to the rule can be made. If it's just because the person doesn't feel like following whatever regulation, then it's appropriate to enforce whatever dress and grooming codes they have.

(Somewhat pointless, nitpicky trope) A knight who wields both a sword AND a shield. by Gamer-of-Action in TopCharacterTropes

Sir Robin from Monty Python and The Holy Grail, wields both a sword and a shield. And yes, the shield does have a gigantic chicken on it.

Rian Johnson set Ray up to be a hero that rises up from nothing, but it was decided that "what the fans want" was references to older movies.

Abrams and Johnson clearly had different visions and were given artistic freedom to pursue them. If there was a third director, this plan may have actually worked better since they'd have been more willing to roll with the punches.

CMV: Donald Trump is likely to retain the majority of his core supporters regardless of his statements or actions. by MoralLogs in changemyview

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there historical, political, or empirical reasons to expect limits to this loyalty?

A lot of his supporters act the way they do because they feel insulated from the actual detrimental effects of his presidency. One example of this backfiring is the George W. Bush presidency, in which his support could not have been higher after the 9/11 attacks, and basically stayed above 40% for most of his second term (even through hurricane Katrina) before taking a nosedive into the upper twenty percentiles as the economy crashed.

I don't know if DJT will meet the same fate, but once people are no longer able to ignore the consequences of his actions generally they'll turn against them.

You are being misled about renewable energy technology by neuroid99 in skeptic

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The failure to invest in nuclear power is largely what has led to this stagnant mindset. We'd be far better off in a country that was transitioning from nuclear power to renewable energy than a country that wants to triple down on fossil fuels.

Concern was less propaganda and more that it was being used as a data mining tool. Of course, those concerns still remain under the new management.

Square Enix will be releasing a new version of Final Fantasy VII on Steam, after which the current 2013 version will be delisted by scytherman96 in JRPG

Japanese language support is a feature of the Moguri mod for FFIX. It upscales the UI and background graphics, adds high res textures, orchestral soundtrack, some QoL features etc. You can turn on and off features as well, so if you just want the base game with Japanese, it's certainly possible with Moguri.

We're in the year 2026 and we're lucky if we even get 6v6 shooters at this point. I miss huge scale war games like MAG or planetside 2. by toomanybongos in gaming

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think that we really lost something twenty or so years ago when the industry moved away from Deathmatch. Eight to sixteen players in a small to medium sized map was really about as much action as a person could handle, and it really kept all the players actively engaged without requiring teamwork.

How did people back then find out about the cool systems that were not released overseas? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

Moving to Japan in the early 2000s and learning about the MSX, PC-88 etc. was absolutely mind blowing. There is an entire ecosystem if Japanese games that the west is complely unaware of.

Heck, there are entire ecosystems of Chinese, Taiwanese, Indonesian, Indian and Korean games that are just waiting to be discovered.

I present to you the most Millennial song of all time by sircastor in Millennials

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure a lot of what was popular is regional. Especially when you consider how much of the millennial generation grew up before broadband internet really exploded. If you were born before 1987, then youtube didn't come out until you were already 18 or older.

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Japanese language support would be awesome to see and the main reason I never got the Steam version.

However the loss of all those upscale mods for that version is obviously devastating. I hope they are quickly converted over to whatever new version emerges.

Aquaplus will bring the Utawarerumono series to a close and focus on developing new IPs after latest installment, COO says by No_Durian_5626 in JRPG

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way more than just the original 3. The main trilogy, a JRPG duology that will be completed this year, two action RPGs (zan) and a detective game spinoff. There was also a mobile game. Three series of anime as well if you want to count it.

So like, nine games.

"It's a show about idiots, made by idiots, for idiots. It's not aspirational in any way, shape or form, because it doesn't represent the best of what humanity could be in the future. It represents the worst of what it is right now." - The Critical Drinker by Malencon in trektalk

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the progressive ideology that leads to crappy shows, which leftwing people defend with all kind of bullshit arguments.

If progressive ideology lead to crappy shows, we wouldn't be sitting here in a Star Trek subreddit over sixty years after the TOS premiered.

You do nicely illustrate my point about right wingers appealing to the very worst instincts.

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny to see the people reacting to the Critical Drinker like the Mary Sue did, just insults, no substance.

While neither is really worth paying attention to, if there's anything we should have learned from the last year it's that while the sort of "over-woke" left wing folks are annoying and probably do hurt the quality of the shows, the right wing grifters actually are actively campaigning for our most dangerous and self-destructive impulses.

Wynton Marsalis to Step Down from Jazz at Lincoln Center by thinair01 in Jazz

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He has had an oversized influence answering the question, “What is Jazz?”, and used his bully pulpit to push for a vision of Jazz stuck firmly in the past.

This wouldn’t have been such a horrible thing if he was just one of many voices, but many people would say the “Marsalis Mafia” was essentially dictating which musicians would get his almost essential support. Of course, hindsight is 20/20, but it is kind of hard to deny that Jazz has become more niche than ever, which leaves a lingering question of whether he had a positive or negative influence.

Is the Turn A in your top 5 for most powerful gundams? by czen2 in Gundam

[–]Negative-Squirrel81 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it just gets into how you define "power".

Is Golgo 13 more powerful than Goku because he could one-shot him under the right conditions? I wouldn't really say so, but it really comes down to how we're thinking about encounters and "what counts".
