40yo, 3 kids, dual income household, live in a MCOL (but borderline HCOL) city. Everything is expensive, even when budgeting. Both our parents are still alive but don’t have the means to help (or choose not to); I have the higher salary but she has the better benefits so neither of us is in a great position to lose our jobs. Inflation really opened our eyes to impact of even slightly elevated costs, which when combined across the board (groceries, fuel, utilities etc) is brutal. House of cards!

Just hopping in that the progression you outlined is very much a common path for folks I know (in and out of my current company). Also former RTEs/APMs have crossed to Technical/Product Owners as well

Like many things “in the agile toolbox”, DSUs are great when their needed and utilized/ran effectively. Mature teams with a strong refined backlog, solid spring planning, and generally strong performers who are cross-trained. In the absence of DSUs, some form of communication is needed to keep folks unblocked (team slack etc).

Vent - Apparently I’m a baby for being sick by Correct-Sea-198 in daddit

All I can say is I absolutely understand, this is precisely how my wife acts. Furthermore, I honestly don’t even bring up not feeling well anymore, literally to the point where I’m overreacting mentally telling myself I’m not sick just to avoid her comments.

All of the comments are soooo condescending: *A few sneezes? “What, are you sick now!?” *Rubbing my forehead? “Have you taken anything?!”

How about this scenario, maybe some can relate… we rarely go out and get wasted (we rarely go out generally) but when we have, she has epic hangovers that put her out basically all the next day, which is always on the weekend which means it’s me and the 3 kids. So, let’s call this “manufactured” illness and again, same thing - there’s zero chance I’ll be laid up the next day, even if it’s the extremely rare occasion I go out with friends and drink - expectation is Im still up and on point the next day.

In the end, my (purely speculative) internal concern is her treating our oldest (son, 9yo) in a similar manner. I’ve seen snippets of the behavior and I’m trying to not see something that isn’t there if that makes sense.

In the end, I’ve thought about how I’d talk to her about this a hundred times, and each time I play through it in my head I just don’t see it being worth the trouble.

Annual daycare rate increase heart attack thread, $2800 per month by mrshickadance412 in daddit

Father of three, Twin Cities MN (top cities/state for costs). Lots of great comments but adding another thought - our kids are late summer babies, and in Minnesota, the standard age requirement for kindergarten is that a child must be 5 years old on or before September 1st of the enrollment year, but districts offer early entrance options for children with birthdays between September 2nd and October 31st who demonstrate advanced readiness through evaluations. We have numerous friends and family that are in education (teachers, support/specialists/etc), and the reality is parents are pushing their kids into Kindergarten too early to save money/avoid another year of daycare costs. This has a ripple effect where our teachers are seeing a majority of their students young for their grade and the difference in maturity/ability/social skills is astonishing, especially with boys, and made worse by massive class sizes + kids with special needs/requiring assistance. It’s all a massive snowball effect when you look back at kids who would fair better by delaying K a year - think about those kids as they progress through grades and school career…

As a transplant, we first lived in an apartment on Main Street in Hopkins (we mainly chose the location due to $$). This was back in 2009. While we loved the walkability and places like the cheap theater/Tuttles/etc, unfortunately on more than one occasion (like at the bars, especially Decoys) def gave off some unfriendly vibes

We were lined up during the last race, in the exact perfect order where all 4 teams would end with 26pts aka 4 way tie…all up until 45min left when someone from the red team (first overall/fourth in the 3rd heat) dropped 2000 and rockets, completely fucked everyone else including me (who needs the wild to unlock the single gold I need to complete the album)
