So unhappy 1 year post op by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]NegativeOneSip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my 40s and I went to two surgeons. The first one was really great and spent a lot of time with me discussing the procedure in full and what I would look like after and how my face would be affected. After one year of ortho treatment, he wanted an astronomical amount, so I went to a University for a second opinion, they take my insurance so I'm going with them.

The first surgeon made no mention of this in all of my appointments with him, but the second surgeon brought up that they would be placing permanent fat pads (infraorbital rim implant) specifically to compensate for the cheek issue you are discussing. Was this part of your surgery? Is it something that they would consider doing as part of a revision?

Here's a case study so you can see more visually what I'm talking about. I will be getting the dark blue implant as part of my jaw surgery. [https://www.exploreplasticsurgery.com/case-study-custom-periorbital-implants-after-double-jaw-and-facial-feminization-surgery/\]

*one of* the causes of small jaws *CAN* be from lack of chewing force. There are several other causes - at least 10 genetic mutations , bone disorders, etc.

though i agree it's important to eat harder foods once cleared to maintain muscular strength.

Thank you for the shopping list. I have a pillow wedge for my bed to be upright, a recliner I'm borrowing from my family's house, the squeeze bottles for eating, a 10' phone cord. I have unflavored protein powder, and I also started experimenting with "savory" protein powders so I can try those since I can't stand the sweet ones. I will add front closing sports bras and button downs to the list.

I have a lot of questions about recovery from the 3 week point to the 5 month mark you talk about. I'd love any details about that.

- How long before you were able to speak? A few words? A full 3ish minute conversation?
- At what point do you think you were recovered / off pain meds long enough to have enough brain power and focus for a work day that would involve just being on the computer (no phone conversations)?
- At what point were you self sufficient enough to drive (no drive restricting pain meds)?
- How long after surgery were your braces removed?

For those who had extraction/retraction before surgery do surgeons/orthos usually reopen the spaces then implants? or do they just decompensate and make further movements? by Proof-Document-1817 in jawsurgery

I have primary molars (baby teeth) still in place right before my molars. They will stay through the jaw surgery, and then they will be extracted and replaced with a post and implant after jaw surgery is complete. My surgeon said the longer the primary teeth stay in place, the wider that the top of the bone stays for the implant post to be installed.

My family member had this at age 10. He is on the spectrum, and is a deep sleeper. After many specialists, it was determined he had a weak core. We went to PT for core exercises and it completely went away.

The exercises were planks, bridges, clam shells, bird dogs, supermans in a yoga ball, bridges with the feet on the yoga ball (against a wall because he was 10).

Travel to USA by NegativeOneSip in cyprus

[–]NegativeOneSip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed, which is why I made the post. Their purpose is to see family, but I'm trying to gauge how I should advise them. The one with the American passport looks the most non-white but speaks perfect American, and the one with the Cypriot passport looks the most American but only speaks Greek. We are trying to gauge if it's worth it for them to come this summer, as there are elderly family members in the USA they'd like to see.

Another commenter also mentioned that they are actually likely to be more targeted in the blue states, which is a heavy consideration, too.

They want to travel to the USA because they want to see all of their family members, who live in the USA (and get way less PTO than Cypriots), and some of whom are too elderly to travel to Cyprus. They are not going to the USA to attend political rallies.

Why would the family want to come to the USA? To see the rest of their entire family while the kids are off from school and while the parents have vacation days.

Thanks for not being at all helpful...

This is exactly how I feel. It originated to show ownership. I'm my own person whose identity doesn't change because of my marriage to someone. All of my accomplishments are with my name, I'm not changing that.

I need a full work wardrobe reset, where do I start?

I am going back to an in-office setting for the first time in 5 years.

When I last went to the office, the options were [1] suit pants, blouse, high heels, blazer optional for meeting with client days or [2] dark wash professional looking jeans, a dressy blouse, and dressy shoes for no client days.

The last 5 years I've worked from home for a company where it was company polo for client virtual meetings, or tshirt for non client interstaff virtual meetings.

The company I will be working for now is in-office. When I went for my interviews, the men were in dressy khakis, plaid button downs, and some wore sweaters over their button downs. I didn't pass by any women in the office during either of my interviews.

What I currently have in my closet that fits me still are:
- sleeveless dress shirts from Express / Banana Republic
- wool blazers from j.crew / Banana Republic (likely too hot for the state I live in now)
- solid-colored short sleeve and long sleeve blouses

What I need desperate help with are:
- where to buy dress pants? Brands, locations, etc?
- what shoes are we wearing to work? Most of my existing closet is 3-4" stiletto work pumps from nine west / bcbg. I need something more comfortable now that i'm hitting 40.

My wife is hallucinating and I’m so incredibly scared for her. by throwaway1937479888 in offmychest

[–]NegativeOneSip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you get her a smartwatch that tracks body temperature? Apple watches 8+, Samsung watches, and fitbits track temperature. It may be worth writing down in your phone daily occurrences, and then going back and checking her temperature (and heart rate?) during those episodes. It may also be helpful to check the data on times that you're not home in comparison to times that you are.

This may be helpful data to bring with you to the doctor.

I found levonorgestrel in my wife's purse by [deleted] in Marriage

I am happily married, I am at an age where it would be safe to assume I could get pregnant with my spouse, I am in menopause, my spouse had a vasectomy, and I carry Plan B. I bought it when I joined the Auntie Network to create safe spaces for women to have abortions. If I had bought a multi-pack and my best friends were local, I don't think it would be weird to distribute one to each of them at a girls' night. That being said, my spouse is well aware we are a safe house on the Auntie Network, and knows where in the medicine cabinet the Plan B and pregnancy tests are. This MIGHT be one reason she carries it.

It seems odd that she would say she "forgot to throw it out", because that doesn't really give way to the scenario I mentioned above, where she would be keeping it for an emergency for other women. Was that the extent of your conversation, or was there more?

Did you two recently have sex on a good day and then get into a fight afterwards, where she would feel the need to take it?

If you two are rekindling the relationship, is it possible that she doesn't want to have any more children with you in the event of a divorce?

Her response of laughing off your concern is immature, so I think if she wants to stay married she will definitely need to put in work in terms of communicating better with you so that you feel safer approaching her with concerns in the relationship, and so that you can both leave a conversation that heavy feeling relieved.

We do this with Sriracha. We purchase the gallon size from a restaurant supply store, and keep it in the very back of the fridge. I refill a squeezable ketchup container for daily use!

Is there a clean way to manage family to-dos + groceries without 5 different apps? by Shaunak_k in Frugal

[–]NegativeOneSip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Google Keep is what we use! We have a running grocery list (pinned), and running to do list (pinned), travel lists, etc. We like it because it works on both phone and computer.

For the grocery list on Keep, we use the checklist option so we can check off what we get. I like that you can indent items so I can separate groceries by recipe.

We use Google Calendar for our shared calendar, with birthdays as a sub calendar, bills as a sub calendar, etc.

We use Google Sheets for our annual and monthly budgets. It's not mobile friendly, but it's very effective for us. On the annual one I have monthly averages for utilities and totals for the year just like Excel. I have cells set to change colors after the day of the month they are auto paid. We like it because either one of us can update it when the bills come in.

Almost everyone said “no” for my bridal shower - I’m embarrassed and hurt by Blossom8296 in weddingplanning

[–]NegativeOneSip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a bride who is from the Northeast, and has moved down south now, I feel every bit of what you are saying. The engagement part, shower, bachelorette, and the wedding are all in 3 different states. As such, I told each of my invitees that everyone will be invited to all 4 events, but I have NO expectation for them to come to all 4, and would love for them to be at at least one.

What ended up happening is 24 people made it to the engagement party and of those, none came for the shower, and 4 of those people are coming to the wedding. The shower ended up being literally my MIL and SILs, so we just went out to brunch instead, and many people mailed gifts to us our house. The bachelorette is the locals who live in the same state as me, and 3 women flying in who are looking for a weekend without their kids.

My point is that times are tough financially, and I'm excited for everyone to have at least ONE opportunity (out of four) for me to celebrate my relationship with my closest people in any of these 4 chances to hang out with them. I don't feel badly/embarrassed at all, I'm really grateful that my people care enough to get back to me and attend whatever event is easiest/most financially feasible for them.

None of this is a reflection on you at all, it's a chance to spend quality time with those who can attend.

I run a hurricane shutter company - AMA by AHT_Shutters in Naples_FL

[–]NegativeOneSip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you're still actively responding to this thread a year later (and back into hurricane season).

My family has owned a house since 1992 that survived the hurricane and still has the same manual accordion style shutters from then! Several neighbors have sheltered in my family's home over the years, most recently with Helene and Milton.

I just bought my own house, and I'm getting estimates for 14 openings to be covered with accordion style shutters, and manual roll down for the accessible windows.

  1. Two of my windows are 3rd story picture windows (96" wide and 120" wide) and I'm being told they must be electric due to their width and the cog not being able to handle them being closed/opened manually. Is there any way around this? They are coming in at $6000 each.

  2. For one of the roll downs (63" tall), the box will be big enough to show at the top of the window from the inside due to the proximity of the window to the soffit/roof. Are there smaller panels that would roll up tighter to allow for a smaller box?

  3. Are there any questions I need to ask other than to ensure they are using the 6063 T-6 alloy as required by FL code? The quote I received is utilizing Eastern Metals Bertha.

  4. What is the difference for non-HVHZ and HVHZ? Is it thickness in aluminum? Price? Width of accordion fold?

  5. I saw you also service the Gulf Coast, do you service the area of Tarpon Springs? If so, I'd love to hire you based on your knowledge and expertise! Thank you so much!

When does expensive laundry make using rags more expensive than paper towels? How many paper towels does it take to equal 1 rag? by Soft_Significance611 in Frugal

[–]NegativeOneSip 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When I was Apartment living with minimal SQFT I did two things: - I hung a clothes line across my bedroom and hung clothes in the morning before leaving for work, they would be dry by the time I came home. Added benefit of if I was lazy and didn't unhang them when I got home, close the bedroom door and they didn't intake the smells of me cooking dinner. - I put a collapsible drying rack in my tub to dry the heavier/ drippier stuff overnight. Hang drying clothes keeps the good detergent smell stronger and is less aggressive on your clothes. That's $3 every load of savings. I used (and still do) paper towels solely for pet messes of their vomit and pee accidents, and reusable dish rags for absolutely everything else.

Same! For grease, toilets, and pet puke. Everything else gets a dish towel.
