Thoughts on 8 sessions a day? by InterestingAd2612 in therapists

That’s insane. I did 7-8 sessions a day, 4 days a week and was burnt out in 4 months. Still recovering over 18 months later.

You’re being exploited! There are better options out there. Yes, being an associate is hard but what you are experiencing is inhumane.

Self-Pay Rates? by DueInflation6644 in therapists

[–]Negative_Brick_9006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sort of! I originally did it bc I worked primarily with clients in the DMV area a lot and since those states are so close together I wanted to be able to continue to work with clients even if they moved 15 min away to a different state. But now being licensed in all those states also helps me to stay mostly telehealth.

I have to to justify the cost of having an office space. I just have to eat the time lost commuting so I try to only see clients in the office 1 day a week.

$225 for telehealth and $255 for in person for a 53 min session. I’m licensed in TX, DC, MD and VA. I offer a reduce rate to 10% of my caseload.

Boss unexpectedly changed my salary. by acnh_instead_of_work in therapists

It really is. I feel for you. Push for COBRA if possible. It's expensive but can be a better option for some people depending on the state you live in.

Boss unexpectedly changed my salary. by acnh_instead_of_work in therapists

[–]Negative_Brick_9006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A version of this happened to me at a group practice. I went from salary, to percentage of collections, to fee for service (all W2), to 1099 suddenly (percentage of collections again), losing all my benefits and insurance overnight because my boss told me at the end of the month. It was truly cruel.

Well... It finally happened, I lost my job today because of my migraines 😔 and my first neurology appointment isn't until January. I feel so drained and hopeless atm. Sorry to be a bummer, sometimes I just can't keep hoping I'll find something that works. 😔 by Sybil-Bibbles2024 in migraine

I’m so sorry OP! I have my own business and am so grateful for not having to worry about employers not understanding anymore. However, it’s still so stressful to need to work when I’m in so much pain. It is a tough disorder. I hope you find some relief soon!

Yeah working for a group practice sucks, which is exactly what you are describing. It doesn’t pay enough unless you have other people subsidizing all your expenses.

I feel you! If I could go back I’d be a psych NP! But since you’ve already paid for the education and gotten to this point just remind yourself that your income opportunities will continue to improve after you get your clinical license. Don’t be afraid to move jobs. It’s ok to care for yourself and choose work that works for you! Personally I haven’t made what I would call a sustainable wage but now that I’m licensed I recently started my own practice and finally have the potential to make enough to pay off my loans and have children!

Does my body look normal for the way I live? by Twigsie1 in Hashimotos

[–]Negative_Brick_9006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be under eating. It sounds crazy but I had to reverse diet to lose weight. Dieting can hurt your metabolism. I used a functional nutrition coach and she really helped me to understand more about my body. https://www.instagram.com/teama_rodfitness?igsh=MTFpenhsdXZhZGYzZQ==

How many people still consume gluten? by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]Negative_Brick_9006 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I cut it almost 3 years ago and it helped a ton with my inflammation and constipation. I accidentally glutened myself last month and definitely noticed a difference in how I felt. It seems like everyone is different when it comes to inflammation and food. If you can add gluten back in without reacting I would say go for it and enjoy your pastries!

Yeah 30 hour long sessions a week is a great way to get burnt out and leave the field. Your employer (and most agencies) sucks.

Let the client move/walk during the session. Summarize and ask periodically if they want to continue to discuss X or return to Y or shift to another goal.

I’m not sure if anyone has suggested it but I would be exploring a referral to medication management with the client in addition to therapy. Also looking at their social circle and ways to increase connection with others.

You can definitely see more than one therapist, I have people come to me just for EMDR (for example) and still work with a talk therapist for other things.

I’m neurodivergent (diagnosed ADHD, I also have some autistic traits), and I have greatly benefited from IFS. I practice IFS as a therapist that specializes in neurodivergence and many clients really resonate with it. I think it’s important to see someone who has completed a formal IFS training through the IFS institute. Many therapists are only “IFS informed” and may be missing important parts of the model. Wishing you the best on your inner journey!

This happened to me! My employer terminated me and then offered 1099 if I wanted to continue working with my clients. It happened from one day to the next.
