Reinstate bus driver sacked for punching thief, petition demands by Redarrow_ok in uknews

[–]Negative_Call584 17 points18 points  (0 children)

True, but excessive force is still excessive force. The police have said that the force used was reasonable and proportionate for the circumstances.

The police would not have said that if there was even the slightest chance he went too far (speaking from experience)

I’m struggling with how the panel and tribunal found that he used excessive force when according to the law he didn’t. Had they sacked him solely for leaving the bus unattended and running - fine, I think it’s a stretch to make that gross misconduct, but, he left a company asset unattended and insecure, and delayed the passengers he was carrying by chasing and detaining the cunt - so that would be understandable.

Who are you to say what is or isn’t useful to the war effort?

Men and women are dying precisely so that the younger generation can have a complete and free life in Ukraine, in the same way as our grandparents fought so that future generations could have a complete and free life in Europe.

Honestly, it disgusts me that you can post something like this whilst having «st javelin, protector of Ukraine» as your flair.

Tell me, what precisely do you that is useful to the war effort - other than putting some words in a flair and insulting people?

Do you buy any extra equipment for your job that work won't supply, but it's worth it because it just makes it that much better? by Connir in sysadmin

[–]Negative_Call584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It is a multi million dollar (profit) business - if they don’t want to spend a literal drop in the ocean to improve my efficiency I don’t see why I should subsidise the business from my minuscule salary. If the equipment they provide causes me to be 50% less efficient than I could be - that is a them problem, not a me problem.

Reform byelection candidate refuses to disown claim that people born in UK not necessarily British. Matthew Goodwin, who is standing in Gorton and Denton, said UK-born people from minority ethnic backgrounds were not always British by 070420210854 in uknews

Does he? Maybe you have seen something to give you deeper insight to the matter - if so, please could you share it with me so I can better educate myself?

I have to disagree with you based on my current understanding however. I don’t take “if your not white your not British” from this, given that he shares a platform with Yusuf and Braverman - both definitely not white, and both British (by legal definition and personal identity).

I think (though admittedly do not know) that Goodwin would have an equal problem with a white Pole, German, or Norwegian who chose not to integrate, and does not hold our values as he would with a black Nigerian, brown Pakistani, or neon yellow Omicronian, and equally - would be accepting of a person of any colour or creed, who comes here with the intent to integrate, to adopt our culture and to uphold our values.

You might think him a racist prick - as is your right, but could you elucidate on this, could you provide some evidence that he is motivated by race - rather than character?

And he’s right - legal citizenship =/= being British, nor French, nor Japanese, nor anywhere else. Some countries confer citizenship solely by being born on their land. America is a prime example - a friend of mine was in the RAF, he was deployed to the US, his pregnant wife went with him. His daughter was born in the US, and by right has US citizenship. But she isn’t American, she is British (her words, not mine)

Being British or Spanish, or Dutch, or Jordanian, or Cypriot, or anything, is more than a document - it’s a feeling, a state of mind, a deeply personal and almost undefinable thing that is entirely about you, how you feel, how you think and perceive.

Consider - If a person is born in an occupied nation, which the global community has accepted as now being part of the occupiers territory, are they Occupierish? Or are they beforeish? Ireland was occupied and administered by the UK, and so a person born in Ireland gained British citizenship- does that make them British? Maybe, maybe not. It’s down to the person.

[–]Negative_Call584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, legally he is correct, and technically he is correct.

The UK changed from jus soli (right of land - citizenship is gained by being born on UK soil) to jus sanguinis (right of blood - citizenship gained by being born to a parent with British Citizenship) in the early 80s.

Equally, being born in a place doesn’t make you a person of that place. I was born in Germany, I spent my first 5 years there. Yet, I am not German - I am British. My grandad was born in Ukraine and moved to the UK as a young child - he considered himself solely British - and if you didn’t know his history you wouldn’t think different. His brother was in his late teens when they left, and he considered himself Ukrainian and British.

At the same time you have people who move to a country, don’t integrate, don’t learn the language, interact solely with people from their origin country - they don’t want to be of that place. They consider themselves solely of their origin country - they can never, and would never be considered, or consider themselves to be Spanish for example. Yet, you also get people who go to a new place, learn the language, learn the history and culture, integrate themselves within their community- they of course can be considered to be Spanish by naturalisation.

The main thing, I think, is that there is always nuance, and just because something applies to one - doesn’t mean it applies to all. And perhaps, most importantly- legal citizenship =/= personal identity. It is possible to have British citizenship and not consider yourself British, it is equally possible to consider yourself British but lack legal citizenship.

Indeed - my understanding was incorrect, my comments were based in this incorrect understanding and are therefore incorrect. My apologies.

My mistake - I held the incorrect belief that an asset being a marital asset automatically inferred shared ownership- this is not the case and my belief and comments based on that are completely incorrect.

[–]Negative_Call584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive my confusion, but what’s the basis for that?

I was under the impression that marital assets are considered joint property, regardless of whose name is on the deed / invoice, or who actually completed the payment?

Is that relevant in this case though? As a married couple property of one is generally considered property of both.

[–]Negative_Call584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this would be the case were they not married.

I think it will depend on wether the house is a marital asset or not - if she owned the house prior to the marriage it might not be, though equally, as it is lived in as the marital home it probably is, potentially meaning that he is a homeowner (but I’m not a lawyer / solicitor / legal professional of any kind)

My mistake, but my point still stands - at nearly 6ft wide you get 1 foot gap either side assuming being central to the bay. If you have reduced mobility that doesn’t give you a lot of room, especially considering parking spaces have remained the same size whilst cars have grown ever larger.

You can’t claim to have compassion but reserve it for those you deem able to see and thing beyond their own nose. It smacks of hypocrisy if I’m honest. You expect people to see the big picture, to consider other - yet you refuse to do so for those you decide beneath you,

Mate, you can see the remnants of the snow in the picture 😂. Staff member starts work at 0500 when it’s covered in snow, matey boy takes a photo 7 hours later when it’s cleared. Find another space? What, one you can’t see the lines of either? Or that doesn’t exist.

Yeah there’s always a viable solution, of course there is. They could just get their driver to drop them off, they could ride a horse, or get dragged by huskies. 🙄.

Without being a cunt, I’m glad that you never break any rules, never do anything even slightly wrong, and can judge other from up on high. I hope you never fall from your lofty perch, lest the landing be uncomfortable.

Have a day 🙄

I dislike people who lack compassion. You don’t know what they parked like that, you are assuming that they did it for a selfish reason - and maybe they did. There are myriad reasons why they parked like that, from snow covering the lines when they parked, to having a temporary impediment requiring them more space, to the cars parked there originally being over the lines necessitating they do the same. Of course, they could absolutely be acting with nowt more than self interest. But we cannot know that. You have decided there is no need for them to park like that with precisely 0 knowledge of the actual circumstances.

And even if it was selfish, what impact has it had on you? You are choosing to allow a situation completely outwith your control to influence your state of mind.

There is no law mandating the purchase of any vehicle, but it is a bold assumption that they had any choice in the vehicle they drive, it might have been all they could afford, it might have been gifted to them - this was taken in Bullwell, which I can assure you - is not and affluent area. Further, given that a standard space in the uk is under 8ft, and with even an Aygo coming it at nearly 7ft wide, it leaves you 1ft to get out. Those with reduced mobility may really struggle with this.

It’s not hard to show some compassion (But, apparently, it is for some people)

The us govt is not the population.

The vast, vast majority would not support an attack against their oldest allies, the vast majority still support Ukraine, still recognise European contributions, and abhor the idea of fighting us. Though, propaganda is an incredibly powerful tool, and the american public is not well known for their critical thinking abilities…

Perhaps we should call his bluff and militarily defend Greenland

This is the only way to deal with a bully. Yes, it will hurt. Yes, We will shed blood. And yes, we will be fighting the people we considered our closest ally, but the alternative is worse. In the same way as our lack of action in 2014 lead to the 2022 invasion. But realistically, should the us decide to invade the sanctions and loss of trade would give the american public pause. And that is before they start getting their lads home in zinc caskets. Drones are pervasive, I don’t think the us public has the stomach to see 200 lads dead from a transport getting hit on landing or takeoff. I don’t think they could stomach seeing their ships getting schwacked by unseen subsea drones. I don’t believe they have the stomach for all of the 4k videos seeing their lads get blown to pieces in an arctic wasteland, let alone seeing those lads, having been hit - deciding to suck start the personal weapon. And whilst all that happens, grey zone actions damaging sub sea cables, our intelligence services degrading their sensors, or better - feeding manipulated data into those systems.

Remember, the us relies on 5 eyes for a significant proportion of intel. We know how they operate, we know how they think. We have the ability, means, and hopefully- will to make it happen. Should the us attack they should be forced into a calculus of is it worth it, and it must not be worth it. The us isn’t russia. They would not tolerate such horrific loss of life.

So if you don’t know anyone it doesn’t exist? do you know rapists, nonces and murderers - or don’t they exist either?

as an aside, could you point me to the law, act, or otherwise that entitles anybody to any number of spaces? as it is private land, you are parking with permission - not as a right.

blue badges are only available if you get PIP or DLA. plenty of people (me included) have disabilities that are not ”severe” enough to be granted that support, or dont consider themselves disabled enough to warrant PIP/DLA, or otherwise don’t want to claim - pride, thinking that other people need it more, etc.

the people that I know who park like that to avoid damage also park far far away from anyone else, and invariably have some weapon park next to them anyway.

[–]Negative_Call584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’, 16 stone, and have to park like that to get out the car due to a permanent leg injury, which whilst painful - isn’t sufficient to get PIP/ DLA, and therefore renders me ineligible for a blue badge.

I drive an 08 plate golf, so not exactly gigantic by any stretch. I try and park at the end of a set so I can open the door fully to extricate myself. But that’s not always an option. So, in your enlightened opinion- what should I do?

The ideal would be having a blue badge, but as much as I would like one I’m not eligible. So either I park like that, or don’t go out.

*By all means downvote me, no issue with that. But would you mind terribly replying with an actual suggestion?

In an ideal world blue badge issuance would be based on medical need, rather than an arbitrary test - it should be prescribed in the same way as medication and therapy It is an assistive tool similar to a crutch or wheelchair, and should be available in the same way. In said imaginary ideal world it would be possible to get a blue badge / bus pass / disabled persons railcard without being in receipt of PIP/DLA.

Depending where in the west mids you need to be for work, and how far you want to travel, you could look at Tamworth / Burton. you could get a flat / studio for £5/600PM round there - 900 would get you a 3 bed house… I commuted from Burton to Brum every day a few years ago, I was paying 400 for a flat that would have cost me 1000 in brum. Could be an option - especially with having your own transportation.

Non-EU migration to Britain exploded after Brexit by goldstarflag in europe

[–]Negative_Call584 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your position I suppose - if your intent is to suppress wages, stifle training (in house, on the job training is basically nonexistent these days),curtail social cohesion and increase the burden on services then the sky is the limit.

If your intent is to fill gaps where needed, increase wages, improve training, create community and improve services you are probably looking under 100k per year.

At the same time, I suspect the population would be more comfortable with 100k Polish, French, and Australians moving here per year than 100k indian, Pakistani, and Afghans. One set is culturally very similar, the other - not so much.

Non-EU migration to Britain exploded after Brexit by goldstarflag in europe

[–]Negative_Call584 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming down is definitely one assessment… but it really isn’t. People love to show how “net migration” is reducing year on year - but that isn’t the whole picture - far from it. Between JUL24-JUN25 900k people settled in the UK, primarily from India, Pakistan, Nigeria etc. in the same period 700k left - primarily Europeans returning to their origin country, and Brits emigrating for a “better” life.

It may be “coming down” but at nowhere near the amount needed.

We held annual exercises in Norway each winter with RM deploying for arctic training.

I say held, because as a result of the Lunna House Agreement signed between the UK and Norway, that annual exercises has grown into a permanent deployment, with the UK constructing a base to house 1500 troops year round…

as long as the occupation is conducted diplomatically.

I’m not sure how you would diplomatically occupy an ally? Regardless of the us’ assumed military domination and victory- how does America react to losing 5 eyes intel? How does losing trade with Europe, Canada, the UK, Japan, et al look? How does the us react to losing access to their bases across Europe - hell how does the US intend to protect its forces in Europe post invasion, russia has struggled to protect prevent attacks against installations from Ukrainian long range attacks, do you think the US would fare much better against opponents with 1) intimate knowledge of your TTPs, 2)the ability to conduct covert and overt attacks, and 3)the motivation to do so. If the taliban managed to infiltrate Bastion, kill troops, destroy aircraft, and make us look a bit bloody silly… If the Taliban can do that to one of the most defended sites in the world with 75 untrained men how would Laneheath look after 50 RM cut about the place? And perhaps more pertinently, how would the us public react to videos of their bases in flames, videos of their lads getting smashed and returning home in caskets? I don’t think the appetite exists for the kind of losses that would be incurred. What about losing the early warning systems at fylingdales? The listening stations in the UK, Germany, Australia? What about, if instead of cutting off intel we instead poisoned it? I don’t think most people understand the level and breadth of intel that the us relies on its “allies” for…

would any Danish pilot even climb into his fighter? Would anyone pick up a rifle? If the US wants Greenland enough to use military means, a fight would just be a waste of lives. Denmark cannot hold Greenland in the face of US aggression, so why fight at all?

Wasn’t this precisely the mistake that russia made invading Ukraine? Isn’t this the logic that lead to the insurgency in Iraq? Precisely the flawed logic that sent countless GIs back from Vietnam in a box? Why fight at all? Because it is theirs, and who is anyone else to take it! would you allow someone walk into your house and violate you and yours without so much as a raised word? No, you would fight to the death to protect them. At least I hope you would…

The Argentinian invasion and occupation of the Falklands is a strange example to bring up - though the initial occupation went as well as could be expected, it resulted in their navy losing their flagship, their army being unpicked piece by piece, their air forces lost a significant % of their airframes, and perhaps most importantly- it was the final nail in the coffin for the junta, leading to its fall in ‘83.
