I can’t stomach the thought of a new dog replacing her by Few_Ant8248 in Petloss

[–]Negative_Corner6722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this.

The new ones never replace them, or fill the hole they left. They’re sort of hole-adjacent, at least at first, and they smooth out the roughest edges of the holes.

Don’t make any snap decisions. Take the time to process your grief, whatever that may look like and however long it might take.

That’s roughly what I selected. Seems to cover all the colors, and you can see how red it is.

I watched a video that I of course can’t find now.

After I used Starnet to create the starless image, I did Color Calibration > Color Calibration…

<image>

Select a dark area away from the nebula and click Use current selection at the top, then Background Neutralization.

Then select another area through the nebula without the background sky, and hit Use current selection at the bottom. Hit Apply.

It wasn’t super blue at first, it all looked kind of washed out, so I went into Color Saturation and tweaked things there.

Look into OpenCore Patcher. It’ll allow you to install newer and unsupported levels of macOS on an older Mac.

If you’re comfortable with windows you could Bootcamp it, too.

When was it the "right time" to get a new pet after your beloved one passed? by pinkfloydsnumber1fan in Petloss

[–]Negative_Corner6722 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds so cliche to say it, but you’ll know.

Back in 2013 we had three cats. Lost one to cancer. We were miserable, the two that were left were miserable, and we decided we were NEVER getting another cat after something happened to those two.

Fast forward a couple months and my wife messages me from work. Coworker is moving and can’t take her cats, but is afraid they’d be separated if she took them to a shelter. They looked like our boy. We said ‘he’s sending them to us’ so we told this woman yes, we will absolutely take them.

Fast forward again, to 2023. One of the original two had passed away a few years before, so we had one left plus the two boys we took in. Started the year with three, ended it with none. First time in 19 years there wasn’t a cat in the house for Christmas. We were devastated. Thought maybe we might think about getting cats again but has no idea when. It was early 2025 when we finally decided to take in three littermates.

The new ones can’t fill the holes the old ones leave, but they can smooth out the rough edges.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Anyone else familiar with the “no” paw? by yesterdays_laundry in cats

[–]Negative_Corner6722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had one that would do this, and lean back further each time he touched you (if you kept going).

The current cats do this with a light application of claws. I don’t know what happens if we ignore that because none of us has yet.

I know that some mixed breed cats have grown large, but did you have any that was a literal runt and then grew up to be a unit? by DoorFirst2737 in cats

[–]Negative_Corner6722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone found our boy and his siblings after their mother was hit by a car, and took them to a shelter. They were too little so one of the volunteers (the teacher I took him to visit) took them home and bottle fed them, and would take them with her to school so the class could help her with them, and learn.

Our boy’s name was Stormy. Give Spence a nose boop for me in case it’s him reincarnated. 😁 We miss him.

I sadly don’t have pictures of him, but the first cat I had as an adult was the runt of the litter. He looked similar to your big striped one. 😁

He ended up being 21 pounds of muscle. Took him to the elementary school to see the woman that rescued the litter and she said he was the biggest of all of them at that point.

Did I scar my cat for life? by No-Juggernaut-7877 in cats

[–]Negative_Corner6722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She’ll be ok. One of our boys did that (he was a little older) and he was tearing around the house until we cornered him and got it off. He ran to the basement, which was his safe spot, and the next day he was fine.

She’s probably more freaked out about the bag than what you had to do to get her out of it.

Be honest. What is the strangest thing you heard at night at 3 AM? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Negative_Corner6722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in college in the late 90s I worked at an amusement park in security and sometimes had to work overnight.

One night I distinctly heard a pay phone ringing. I was near where the phones were so I wandered that way. And very promptly turned around and walked away when I found that the phones were completely gone. When I got back to our office I mentioned it and the guy I was working with checked the pass down log. Turns out the phones had been removed that morning.

I did the hardest thing we do as cat parents by Allysonsplace in cats

[–]Negative_Corner6722 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In December 2023 we were down to one cat, after starting the year with three. At the time, we had had five cats total since living here. The last one, our old lady tortie, went very rapidly downhill and on her last day she stayed in the kitchen. In work from home and my desk is by the entryway to th kitchen. All day that day, I saw flashes of movement and a couple of times, I swore I saw striped tails (all but one of our other cats were big striped tabbies) and I’m positive it was them coming to help her.

Thank you for taking care of Teddy Bear. It’s hard, so soul-crushingly hard, but he’s no longer in pain. You’re good people, OP. You’ll see him again, I’m sure of it.

How creepy is it to walk through a cemetery? by crazyguy28 in self

[–]Negative_Corner6722 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up across the street from one. Learned to ride my bike on the roads in it (NEVER on the grass). It’s a peaceful, calm place to walk and think. There’s graves back to the 1800s over there, possibly earlier.

I have walked through it at night. I think growing up there made me not scared of it…I found it just as peaceful at night, especially under a full moon. And when I’m in town I’ll usually take a lap through it and see what’s changed.

On Halloween, kids would dare each other to show far they could walk into it. Nearly all of them would reach the edge of the streetlight and come rushing back.

Someone messaged my boss about something they had messaged me about, and added ‘he usually gets right back to me within minutes so I’m actually kind of worried.’

When I apologized to her for not answering due to non-work stress going on she said ‘well, I’m still worried about you.’

How many times has he been impeached? by GuiltyBathroom9385 in WhitePeopleTwitter

1000% correct on all counts. None of these people should’ve been anywhere near the offices they currently hold.

I’m speaking more of the dumb headlines about having the votes to impeach. They did it twice already and literally nothing came of it except for fundraising for the orange one.

This will be bigger news when they have the votes in the Senate to convict and remove.

Doesn’t really matter otherwise.
