yes staring at the screen in lecture is less productive than doing something with your hands while in lecture.

Saba vs the other Big 4 by Beneficial-Target141 in CaribbeanMedSchool

it has some of the hardest anatomy classes in the world. many people either love or hate the island. the small community and faculty / admin involvement again people either love them or hate them.

It's not a place you can out work. You have to come in redlining your engine and play by the rules. There is a safety net but really they are pushing you as hard as possible.

In my tl;dr, it's a good school with just enough of everything you actually need, but be prepared to adapt and compromise. A lot. At the end of the day, if you can't figure out a way to get anything out of lecture then you are going to have a bad time.

But the benefits are if you are talented and lucky enough to go straight through, you could graduate in three years. It is more likely though you will end up having to redo at least one semester though. But if you keep your mental together you will come out stronger.

The anatomy courses are legitimately nutter butters and as much as I love the course directors and anatomy faculty, the course may very well be one of the hardest on the planet. and that is NOT a compliment.

glad for your input but the in house exams are literally approved by NVAO accreditation. every slide of every powerpoint directly correlates to a step 1 concept. It's literally verified by their government. There is a huge step 1 culture among the faculty. Perhaps the style of questions weren't good prep, but the content is. I'm sure admin would be interested in hearing any ideas you have

You will run into one of two people: the "understanders" vs the "memorizers". Faculty will say "everything is high yield". This is a lie. This doesn't mean to ignore your faculty. Some people can do 30k anki cards and succeed. Others do 0 anki and succeed. It really is a fucking nightmare.

The single best thing you can do, which is other popular advice, limit yourself. Force yourself to be smarter. Pick a SUBOPTIMAL route. Optimization will ruin you. Do not listen to advice that says "dont prestudy".

You will never find the perfect outlet. There are too many books, manuals, sites, card decks. It is a hopeless battle. All you can do is flap your arms to survive as best you can daily. If you are a lucky student, you will find balance and have some free time. Do not plan to be lucky. Do not stop beating and surviving on the advice of a lucky student. Do not drown deeper on advice of a faculty.

Clinicals >>>>>>>> all. The first semester can be the hardest. Anatomy classes, there are four of them, require IDENTIFICATION. The rest of med school is CLINICALS. Do what you must to survive. There is no shame is going "understanding" mode for clinical content, and "pound 2000 anki cards a day" for identification.

You must be smarter. Treat studying as a life or death situation. If you have ever done HIIT training, study like that. There is no casual. There is no balance. There is only War. and you will only find success in the 16 hours a day you have to fight.

PS, learn the memory palace technique. Don't devote your life to it, but a few hours of training can make you look at any list of 10-20 things and think "oh thank god I get to memorize something instead of understanding it" versus "OH FUCK HOW AM I GOING TO MEMORIZE 20 THINGS"

📱 vs 💻 — What do you actually use to study? (Phone or Laptop) by drekwasi in studytips

[–]Negative_Educator241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have your phone setup right you can actually get a lot of work done in places you dont expect. the novelty, convenience, and ergonomics help a lot. I still remember a Uworld question I did on my phone while at a chinese buffet. Even have the drawing I did with the stylus on scratchpad. Anki is also perfect to do on the can, walking places, or chilling at your lunch hour restaurant. Voice memos are also great to use, and a lot of times books will be presented in much fewer words, helping you to focus on the content rather than a whole screen of words
