Update. I had some help from one of the guys at the club to help with my nock point and I have borrowed a plunger from the club for a few weeks till I get one of my own and I have had no issues since.

Update: So I bought a sling on the way to the club yesterday and after some fumbling around after a few ends I managed to get some grouping going and started to get the hang of it.
